Monitoring the response to Twitter Day.
Greater Manchester Police is showing people what officers and staff face in 24 hours by providing the most extensive behind the scenes access in its history.
From 5am on Tuesday 14 October for 24 hours the Force will be tweeting all the calls it receives as well as providing an insight into some of the most challenging work. It takes place exactly four years after the very first GMP Twitter Day.
The 24 hours will see:
•Details of all 3,000+ calls being tweeted as they happen
•The GMP Facebook account will be ‘taken over’ by officers providing details of how cases are investigated
•Video updates from officers working in complex areas such as public protection and negotiators
•Two community reporters will provide updates from custody and a response patrol
•Updates throughout the day from the 101 local police Twitter and Facebook accounts
Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy said: “Since we held our first Twitter day in 2010 the force has shrunk by 1,400 officers and it has become more of a challenge to maintain the service to the public.
“Four years ago, people were surprised by the range of incidents we have to deal with and these have not changed. More of our work is about protecting vulnerable people, targeting those who abuse them and dealing with the consequences of entrenched social problems.
“We have a tremendous workforce that every day shows great dedication, patience and compassion. Our staff have great concern about the consequences of further reductions that we will face over coming years. We will need greater support from the public and continued changes to the way we work to get through this.”
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Jim Battle: “Twitter day gives the public an insight into a typical busy day for Greater Manchester Police. I’m sure the public will be surprised with the number of calls, the range of complex issues police deal with daily and how effective police officers are in protecting the public and our communities.
“Giving the public an insight into a day in the life of GMP will strengthen their support for officers and staff, who do extraordinary work in difficult circumstances. It also reinforces the case to government that investment in policing is essential and cutting police budgets is reckless.”
To follow what happens during the 24 hours people should check out the Twitter accounts @gmpday14_1, @gmpday14_2, @gmpday14_3 and @gmpday14_4 that will be used for the calls. Further details will be circulated on the force main Twitter account @gmpolice and Facebook GtrManchesterPolice, and if you are not on social media you can find it on the website www.gmp.police.uk
But simply follow the hashtag #gmp24 to see the activity unfold.

Plan's Youth Reporter activity in January 2014 gathered together 280 children and young people from 12 communities in Leyte and Eastern Samar - provinces in the Philippines where Typhoon Haiyan dealt the most damage.
The activity provided an opportunity for these young Filipinos to share and process their experiences during the typhoon in a supportive environment. Using Flipcam video cameras and working in small groups of “junior news crews”, they were able to express their opinions and needs as disaster-affected children and youth to the rest of the world in a creative and empowering manner.

Studio Tour Preview by RCR Entertainment Reporter Brittany Leoni
Exciting news...LA is now open! There is no doubt that Angelinos have missed being out and about during the past year. Now that LA is open, everyone is very excited about the expansion of the iconic Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood here in Burbank. The updated tour opens today, June 26th, with a wide range of expansions honoring the studio’s history.
When guests first arrive they will see a new Welcome Center, expanding into a “Storytelling Showcase” exploring the studio’s origins and history.
I was super excited to have the pleasure of interviewing Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 director, Patty Jenkins, at the early tour opening on Thursday, the 24th.
Q: "Having had the chance to now walk through the exhibit and see the props and costumes for Wonder Woman, is there anything you see in the exhibit that sparks a fond memory from filming?"
Patty: I think that they all do. I think that all of the objects in there mean something special to me. Particularly the wings from Wonder Woman 1984 - to see those out in full display in the exhibit. We actually made those wings on set even though we didn't really need to, because you could just do them in CG. But we did, and so everything about them like the curvature of the line at the top is perfect. I saw myself going back into that critical mode of, "Oh good, you guys really got that line right." So many of those objects are such beautiful things ultimately that these great people I have worked with bring back great memories.
Q: "What's been your experience directing such an iconic character, not only on the individual movies but being a part of the DC family?
Patty: It's an incredible honor. It's such an honor that you can't even...you don't know what to do with it. Growing up I watched Superman and the Batman's. I get to be the first who makes Wonder Woman, and I'm like, "What do you do with that thought process?! I don't know." All I end up knowing is that I love Wonder Woman and I loved the comic book films. And someone's gotta direct it. It turned out that was me and I'm glad I got to be a part of it. I believe in these DC characters. I think that they really are about trying to be a hero in the world. There are heroes who are about different things, like being unlikely and chosen. The DC heroes aren't about that, they are about helping people, and I love that and believe in that."
After the “Storytelling Showcase,” guests will hop into a tour car and be driven across the lot to Stage 48: Script to Screen, the Studio Tour’s interactive sound stage. In Stage 48 there is both a Central Perk set from Friends and a set reproduction of Sheldon’s apartment from The Big Bang Theory.
So, we know there has always been a Central Perk/Friends part of the tour. HOWEVER there is a huge expansion of Central Perk Café—this new version is way bigger than the original one, and directly connects to replicas of the characters props, including Joey and Chandler’s seats and their foosball table.
Speaking of Friends, none other than Chandler's ex-beau, Janice, AKA Maggie Wheeler, also greeted us by the Central Perk Café to say some special words about her experience of playing Janice.
Q: "In your mind, where would Janice be today in 2021?"
A: "Oh. My. God," (in her Janice voice). I think she has a very successful line of handbags - animal print, zebra, tiger, leopard, and a podcast for how to get past the one who got away."
Q: "Where does Maggie end and Janice begin?"
A: "I don't know where Maggie ends and Janice begins - but probably when "this happens," (in her Janice voice). But I grew up in NYC around a lot of women like Janice, and I think it was just a matter of time before I let the cat out of the bag."
Guests will then enter an “Action and Magic Made Here” exhibit. You’ll see a big Batcave full of costumes, vehicles, and props from the DC heroes and villains that we know and love.
Starting June 26th, be sure to grab your ticket for the studio tour...you won't want to miss it!

P1300767 - Recent budget cuts have led the local council to finding alternatives on services provided.
Our roving reporter has saw a number of these 30-40 foot snow drops previous and was unsure what they were to be used for.
A council spokesperson said they were still testing the usefulness of these street lamps, but said they felt the dual purpose of carbon absorption and oxygen production with the gas lamp shades seem to fit into the environment and recent directives from Brussels.
Following up on the Brussels connection we had no comment from the Brussels representative when we met him on the local allotment .

While at the Coney Island, we met these reporters, who were working out of DC, but originally from the Ukraine. They were incredibly pleasant to talk to, and had nothing but the nicest things to say about people in the cities. And they were acutely aware, as well as interested, in the difference between Saint Paul and Minneapolis. I gave my same meandering lecture about local history and what I think is the difference between the two cities, but I fear it didn't explain things much.
Hooray for our pre-Christmas week at the beach.

It was just two days after the first Facebook organized protest on 25 January had brought the first mass crowds to Tahrir Square. Opposition spokesman and Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammed El Baradei was arriving back in Egypt from Vienna.
As soon as he came into view people from every direction rushed towards him almost knocking down the walk through metal detector. Moments after this photo was taken two journalists started to fight in the jostle to get close to him. Baradei looked a little tired but was met with great appreciation and was cheered as he left in a car.
Earlier at Vienna Airport, prior to leaving for Egypt, he'd told reporters that Presdient Mubarak should step down - ""He has served the country for 30 years and it is time for him to retire".
