In front of the Kadhimain Tomb / Mosque in Baghdad. I was told that, since Saddam's removal from power, the borders and thus sacred shrines of Iraq had been re-opened to visitors and the devout from Iran, banned for years from visiting sites they held holy, such as this one.
In this photo I'm actually speaking with a western woman dressed in a traditional outfit. Lois Raimondo is a photojournalist and was on assignment in Iraq for the Smithsonian Magazine, preparing a feature story: Baghdad Beyond the Headlines.
This photo was taken by the Japanese traveller I befriended in Jordan and visited Iraq with. He later emailed me the file.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: I had to distinguish this as Kit's "Beforever" Reporter Dress because prior to this outfit, she has another one with the same name. Personally, I think this one is way more charming. Although I would love to have her original one someday too. This has a ton of wit and charisma, just like Kit's personality in the stories. I think it's super interesting, and fitting that Kit has a vest to wear with this outfit. I also am very partial to the polka dot print used for this--it reminds me so much of her Christmas dress. The clip that came with this outfit looks great with Kit's new "Beforever meet" dress, which is great since mine did not come with a hair clip. The fabric choice is a bit on the thinner side, but it's not too stiff. There are plenty of beautiful details too, like the bow, the embroidered collar, and the belt! These shoes are very simple, but since the rest of the outfit has so much going on already, it was a great choice.
The idea of a nine to five desk job scares the heck out of Eliza Murphy. She loves reporting and anchoring because it keeps her on her toes. Meeting new people and learning new things every single day is important to this Columbia, South Carolina native. She appreciates the finer things in life... like sweet tea. In her spare time, Eliza frequents Columbia's downtown District searching for breaking news.

Plan's Youth Reporter activity in January 2014 gathered together 280 children and young people from 12 communities in Leyte and Eastern Samar - provinces in the Philippines where Typhoon Haiyan dealt the most damage.
The activity provided an opportunity for these young Filipinos to share and process their experiences during the typhoon in a supportive environment. Using Flipcam video cameras and working in small groups of “junior news crews”, they were able to express their opinions and needs as disaster-affected children and youth to the rest of the world in a creative and empowering manner.
