The Body Relates - A 4 Day Workshop by Ming Poon

Legal document drawn together in 1940, with an additional handwritten memorandum. The document relates to the history of 12 Queen's Road (residence of Smith Hoyle and then his son Frank William Hoyle), 36 Apsley Road and the adjacent mineral water factory (later to become Apsley Motors), and a plot of land with a Bake House on Clifton Street off Fell Lane.

The document details how, on 30th June 1931, Smith Hoyle (then of Daisy Mount in Oldfield), appointed his wife Mary Ann Hoyle, friend Arthur Pickering, and son-in-law Newton Shuttleworth as the executors and trustees of his will. On 15th October 1938 a codicil was issued that bequeathed the 12 Queen's Road residence to Smith Hoyle's son Frank William Hoyle. Smith Hoyle died on 2nd May 1940. The transference of the estate was formally recognised on 21st June 1940, but as Smith Hoyle's wife, Mary Ann, had already died the deeds transferred to Arthur Pickering and Newton Shuttleworth. A handwritten memorandum was added, dated 20th August 1940, that transferred the properties to Frank William Hoyle.

The 2-sheet document was donated as part of a collection relating to the Smith Hoyle drinks firm by Peter Roper in November 2023. The document is kept in the Keighley and District Local History Society's physical archive.

The Fay Thomas Collection includes family archives relating to the Thomas family. Moses Thomas (1825-1878) was a significant figure in the history of the area now known as the City of Whittlesea, Victoria, Australia. Thomas and Ann and their family lived at "Mayfield", Mernda, Victoria.

Miss Lily Thomas (1871-1946), Thomas and Ann’s fourth daughter lived there all her life. She collected postcards which her family and friends sent her on a very regular basis. It was an easy and enjoyable way to keep in touch. Production of postcards blossomed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Lily’s collection encompasses the so-called Golden Age (1890-1915) with many postmarked 1906-1907. Some were sent to other members of the family.

The collection document the natural landscape as well as the built environment—buildings, gardens, parks, and tourist sites. Topographical Postcards showing street scenes and general views from Australian and international locations, some of which are artistic views. Popular postcard manufacturers such as Tuck’s Postcards are included in the collection.

Decorative cards, many embellished with floral motives (as a nod to the receiver Lily?) and embossing. Greeting cards are common for Christmas, New Year, Easter and of course birthdays.

Regular senders can be identified from Kyneton and the Great Ocean Road area, Victoria and there is a siginifant collection from Scotland (but not sent from there).

PETER FINNEMORE: Groove

4 - 14 May 2011

Peter Finnemore has collected 45 rpm vinyl records for many years, focusing his collection on those that relate to Wales. Seeing his records as democratic markers of cultural history, as ‘vinyl bones’, and as vernacular folk art, many of them relate specifically to Carmarthen.

This picture has important things on it.

First, the term impulse (J) is defined. J= ∫Fdt or J=mv-mv˳ (the two halves of the derivation we did at the beginning of this unit.

The relationship between F and t we see here can be explained using (t,F) graphs and finding ∫Fdt. The area under the curve is the same for long t and small F as it is for short t and small F. They have the same effect

Governor Markell signs SB33 relating to manufactured housing.

With shutter speed and aperture on my mind lately, and how they relate to each other and the exposure of light in my pictures, I decided it was time to go on a night shoot. I loaded up my equipment, one of my favorite assistants (my daughter) and we headed to Hoover Dam which is about 15 miles east of me. Upon arrival at the dam you have to go through a guard station (morning & night is what I found out!). When the guards asked me what I was going to do on the dam, they gave me the rules and sent me on my way.

Rule #1: You can NOT walk across the dam after dark.

Rule #2: You can NOT stop on the dam in your car after dark.

Rule #3: If you stop on the dam the police will be all over you in no time flat and you won't know what hit you until you find yourself sitting in the back of THEIR vehicle.

Rule #4: The best place to take pictures of the dam are from a parking lot on the East side, but if you want to try to get a picture from the West side, there is a little turn off that you will have to use your most powerful zoom lens and TRY to get a picture.

After talking to the guards about the vision I had and getting their help on the best place to get the shot, we were on our way. You tell me... did my zoom work well enough to give you the Arizona Time on the Hoover Dam??

As always, comments are welcome :)
