The red sands sea forts was built in 1942 with anti aircraft weapons on top of them. They are set out in the mouth of the Thames estuary, they stopped German bombers following the river at night to London. We visited the forts with the charity "Project Redsands" who are restoring one of the forts.

Whilst we were heading to the Redsands forts the Sheerness lifeboat radioed us to ask if they could have a practice run alongside us. We, of course, agreed and we got some excellent views of her as she came alongside. Here she is approaching us on our port side, prior to meeting up with us on the supply vessel 'X-Pilot'.

Arriving in Monument Valley area by the scenic Highway 163. MV is a pretty dry area but we were welcomed by clouds and rain.

Bass Point near Shellharbour on the South Coast of New South Wales
Bass Point [1] is a headland in Australia on the New South Wales south coast.
The point was named by Matthew Flinders in around 1800, after his friend and fellow explorer George Bass.[2]
The waters just off the point are considered a critical habitat for the endangered grey nurse shark, so fishing there is restricted.[3]
Bass Point is also home to renowned big wave surfing spot "Redsands".

The sand is this beautiful red color as are the dunes in the vicinity.

Sometimes life seems to hang by a thread, or a root. These trees are holding on to ground that is rapidly being eroded into the sea.

The Shivering Sand Forts about 5 Miles off the North Kent Coast. (You need to hum the War of the Worlds theme when viewing these!)
Fantastic structures looking like an alien invasion. Fascinated by them since I was a kid as they have always been a distant fixture on the horizon, but have never been out to view them until now. Recently they have featured on the BBC Coast Series.
The forts were built during the second World War as anti-aircraft platforms in the Thames estuary to shoot down pesky German bombers which navigated to London using the Thames.
During the 60's became the home for a Pirate Radio Station, Radio City. Talk of them now being refurbished with the establishment of Project Red Sand

This place was similar to Mad Max movies with a group of people shooting guns about 300 feet away from us. The only reason i stuck it through and took these pictures was my husband who was like we got this lets get it done lol
