This is an area in the Riverland of South Australia.
In this particular shot it is a place where the Mallee trees and red soils meet the salty edges of an old evaporation basin.
The shot looks remarkably like a Parrots head and shoulders, hence I included the name psittacines in my title, which is the scientific classification for the Parrot familly.
Many Parrots do live in this area as well.

The Mars One Project
Mars One is a nonprofit organization based in the Netherlands that has proposed to land the first humans on Mars and establish a permanent human colony there by 2027. The private spaceflight project is led by Dutch entrepreneur "Bas Lansdorp", who announced the Mars One project in May 2012. The project's schedule, technical and financial feasibility, as well as ethics have been criticized by scientists, engineers and those in the aerospace industry.
Mars One's original concept included launching a robotic lander and orbiter as early as 2016 to be followed by a human crew of four in 2022. Organizers plan for the crew to be selected from applicants who paid an administrative fee, to become the first permanent residents of Mars with no plan of returning to Earth. Partial funding options include a proposed reality television program documenting the journey. In February 2015, the primary contractors on the first robotic mission had completed all studies paid for by Mars One.
The concept for Mars One began in 2011 with discussions between the two founders, Bas Lansdorp and Arno Wielders. The Mars One organization is the controlling stockholder of the for-profit Interplanetary Media Group.

More information on the Sea Forts on wikipedia and here. Was inspired by doctor boogies amazing set of pictures, and also seing them again on BBC's Coast reminded me how much I wanted to get out there this summer. Got very wet, only slightly seasick, but well worth it.

Years ago I spent over a year out here & even more remote for work.
I got to appreciate the beauty of this ancient land, respect for the seasons, the loudness of its silence, the clarity of the stars, the many creatures that call this home and how we are just grains of sand in time here.
...and the red bull dust that gets into everything.
I always enjoy coming back for a visit and wonder why I don't do it more often. cheers :)

The black-headed monitor or black-tailed monitor is a relatively small species of monitor lizards native to Australia. It is occasionally also called the mournful monitor, freckled monitor or the racehorse monitor, a name it shares with the Gould's monitor due to their exceptional speed.

"The Australian Garden aims to allow visitors to explore people's place in the Australian environment and to learn more about Australian plants. It features about 100,000 plants spread across fifteen landscape displays and exhibition gardens.
The Australian Garden was designed by Taylor Cullity Lethlean Landscape Architects with Paul Thompson (Plant Design Pty Ltd). The Australian Garden has won a number of design awards already, but is still a work in progress, with a second stage covering an additional ten hectares scheduled to commence construction in late 2007 and to be completed by late 2011.[1]"

This skink makes clear its displeasure on being approached for a photograph.
Not wanting to stress the animal too much, we took our leave soon after. But not before ensuring this individual safely continued its journey from the road verge into the adjoining bush. Unfortunately vehicles take a toll on these slow-moving creatures.
