And a final shot from last Saturday in Sidmouth. This is where the fun begins in terms of fossil records - while having our picnic at the pebble beach I picked up one stone with a peculiar perfectly round hole in it. It looked so regular that I first wondered who would drill a hole through a pebble?? A closer look revealed that this tiny tunnel is what I believe to be the fossilised stalk of a crinoid - a class of marine animals that still hang around today. I guess that usually one can find pieces of fossilised crinoid stalk but I have not yet seen the inside of such a stalk.
BTW, I am following 'The Planets' on BBC2, a fab documentary series about our solar system and yesterday's episode was about the existence of life on other planets and how it happened on earth - fascinating stuff! So the Jurassic coast is a brilliant location to visit to get a feeling about the distant past of our planet.
Jordan 2019 (The Wadi Rum desert valley also known as the Valley of the Moon, is located at 1600 meters above sea level in a mountainous region formed by granite and sandstone. It is the longest wadi in Jordan. The name rum means "high" or "high" in the Aramaic language, and its pronunciation denotes the nearby Arab influence. The highest point of Uadi Rum is Mount Jabal Umm ad Dami, with 1854 meters above sea level.
Wadi Rum has been inhabited since prehistoric times by various cultures, including the Nabataeans, who have left their mark on the petroglyphs. Since 2007, the desert inhabits several Bedouin tribes.
Wadi Rum is known by the British army officer T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia), who used it as a base of operations during the Arab Rebellion of 1917-1918. In the Eighties, one of the most spectacular rock formations of Wadi Rum was named The Seven Pillars of Wisdom in honor of the book of the same name by Lawrence, although it has nothing to do with it...)

Cavalleria beach is located in the northern part of the island of Menorca (Spain).
It is a pristine red sand beach about 450 meters long, accessible by a short walk from a large parking area.
Close to Sossusvlei in Namibia, Deadvlei is a clay pan characterized by dark, dead camel thorn trees contrasted against the white pan floor. The pan was formed when the Tsauchab River flooded and the abundance of water allowed camel thorn trees to grow. The climate changed and the sand dunes encroached on the pan, blocking the river from reaching the area.
The trees are estimated to be approximately 900 years old, however they have not decomposed due to the dry climate.
An amazing place to visit especially for anyone interested in photography; the colours & contrasts are spectacular.
I took this photo during my trip to Rub' al khali an empty desert with sand dunes stretching all the way across the horizon. Sadly The night before I was shooting a Time lapse Video and my camera fell into the sand and Died on me. When I woke up I saw this beautiful mist stretching over the Dunes and I had to do something. I hope you all like it.

The wonderful snow continues to fall in northern Utah but today I felt like looking back at the striped hills in the desert outside Hanksville. Utah has so much variety to offer!
6am sunrise at Warriewood Beach (a small beach south of Mona Vale Beach).
Puffy clouds, showers and 3m waves. To me, nothing could be worse than having a clear sky. The APEC rain just would not stop. Rising sun was barely visible if not for the orange hue. Red sand in the foreground added a rich ochre colour to an otherwise pale picture.
