When I look back, this was such an awesome encounter....to have the camera knowledge back then that I have now, I'd probably have taken 10x's as many shots then what I have and most of them would be sharp and in focus better then they are...but the images I do have are priceless!!

The Red Dragonfly, also known as Red-Veined Darter or Nomad is technically known as Sympetrum Fonscolombii, and belongs to the Sympetrum genus. It is widespread in the southern parts of Europe, and since 1990s, it has also become a common species in the northwestern part of Europe including Ireland and Britain.

The Japanese consider red dragonflies to be “very sacred,” offering a symbol of courage, strength and happiness. American Indians believe red dragonflies can “bring a time of rejuvenation after a long period of trials and hardship.”

This is the spring coloration believe it or not.

The Red-tailed Hawk is one of the largest birds you’ll see in North America, yet even the biggest females weigh in at only about 3 pounds. A similar-sized small dog might weigh 10 times that.

i saw this beast a few days ago--drove right by it, but when I got out of the car, it flew to a higher perch.

yesterday, i realized it wasn't afraid of my car, so i just rolled up to it, rolled down the window and started blasting.
