Hunting for rodents on the summer tundra, this fox is concentrating on movement and noise. The red fox, when it finds its prey, will stop, point ears forward, and when its target is found, leap high into the air, arch its back and dive nose-first into its prey.
(note the mosquito riding on the fox's side)

From last year at pershore worstershire.big thanks to Wayne Withers for bringing along his pheromone lures. these are nationally scarce, so was well pleased to see these. found typically around apple trees and orchards. only about 7mm in size and very erratic flight .
............... I have never seen this many Red Admiral butterflies on the homestead. Typically I feel lucky if I see one or two in a season, and some years they are a no show. This spring there are literally hundreds of them nectaring in the crab apple and pear blossoms.
Red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) perched on a branch with an acorn in its mouth. Red squirrels (unlike greys) can't digest acorns, but this one apparently doesn't know that.
Wiewiórka (Sciurus vulgaris) siedząca na gałęzi z żołędziem w pyszczku. Wiewiórki pospolite (w przeciwieństwie do szarych) nie trawią żołędzi, ale ona najwyraźniej tego nie wie.
Yesterday in Traverse City. Fall colors are funny. They're so bright and intense and beautiful. It's like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate you so you can stockpile it before winter turns everything muted and dreary.
The Red-headed Woodpecker is an unmistakable species of southeastern North America, mainly in the USA. The sexes are similar. This bird was seen in Rondeau Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada.

A red light on the side of a fire hydrant booster cabinet outside a building. The later afternoon sun is shining directly on it, making it look like it is turned on.
Red fox posing about as well as you could possibly ask for. While the moment was very fleeting (a few seconds at most), I'm happy with the resulting portrait.
Red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) eating an acorn while standing by a tree.

This squirrel in my yard 3-5 days after leaving its tree cavity may now be my current "yard squirrel." It found my squirrel feeder immediately. All of my yard squirrels over the years proved to be females.
Bit Chilly at Derwent this morning with the Reds
