oh it's so hot these days, too hot to dress up fully in make-up and wig, so I looked up a pic from about this time last year where I was wearing a dress suitable for hot weather ;). I combined it with silver sandals and a nude shiny pantyhose. It was one of the last days I took pictures in my previous own property. I look forward to taking new pictures once my new property is ready for it, and the temperature goes down to acceptable ranges.

Decided to visit a different Red Kite feeding centre at the forestry commision's Bwlch Nant yr Arian reserve. The Red Kites showed their aerial prowess by taking food off the water just as easily as if it were on land. Its one hell of a sight!
I'm not usually a fan of changing established English names such as Knot to Red Knot, especially when there is only one Knot species on the planet so it doesn't need differentiating. But I added "red" to these Knot because they are in their breeding plumage, which is actually orange rather than red. But at the turn of the Nineteenth Century we had three Knots on the British list. These were Knot, Red Knot and Ash-coloured Sandpiper, which were juvenile, breeding and winter plumaged Knots respectively. If you look at Thomas Bewick's History of British Birds Vol II (1804) on the excellent Biodiversity Heritage Library you can see for yourself www.biodiversitylibrary.org/ . Although George Montagu, of Montagu's Harrier fame, had published his Ornithological Dictionary two years earlier in 1802, and he sorted all the confusion and reduced the British List considerably in doing so.
These breeding plumaged Knot are probably failed breeders from Greenland or Arctic Canada that had returned to Britain earlier than they would have done if they had nested successfully. I photographed them in flight heading for the Wash at Frampton Marsh RSPB reserve. I used a shutter speed on 1/1250 but that wasn't fast enough to freeze the wing tips.
while on a frosty morning hike through a forest south of Munich i saw a red deer bull on a meadow off the trail. he was standing in the sun and possibly couldn't see me in the shade so i approached him slowly. i only got some distance shots before he got my scent and went off. a little bit disappointed i was about to turn around when a second bull showed up from the other side, this time much closer. guess we were both completely surprised. luckily my relfexes did work properly and i grabbed my camera within a second and began shooting. he only gave me that brief moment before disappearing in the forest but in this perfect morning light he really made my day!
