Blindingly bright, isn't it? It's that way in person, too. It literally glows. My cat doesn't go for this stuff, but I bought a pot anyway, to bring some sunshine into my home.
We make Aïoli!
1 clove garlic
2 pinches salt
2 Soul Food egg yolks
1 tablespoon Meyer lemon juice
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup canola oil
Squeeze the garlic through a press and grind it (with the salt) into a paste with a mortar and pestle.
In a mixing bowl, whisk the yolks, lemon juice and garlic paste together until thoroughly blended.
Whisk in the oil, drop by drop at first. You can add more as you proceed, but the key to success is starting slow.
Apples are one of the things we are never short of here in Normandie and there are many interesting, ancient, festive dishes associated with them. This is just one and for it I'm using late apples from our orchard, russets and other cider apples, which by this time of year are good 'eaters'. I'm topping them with another great Norman ingredient thick raw cream from our local rare breed organic dairy farm. Enjoy! i've visited curry's electricals. of the three possible freestanding electric cookers non were in stock and no delivery date could be given. with the way things are the cooker remains on hold for the forseeable future. let's just say it's the least of any of the current problems. it's almost rude on my part to even think of it as a problem more something to look forward to ...

People think I'm mad because I let my chickens roam about the garden. I have to protect a few plants like salads and the cabbage family but there's loads of other plants they don't touch or damage.
I've a set in flickr called "Chickens in the vegetable garden" here :

This is an absolutely delicious Thai version of the Vietnamese beef-noodle soup (Pho) that my friend Daisy made for us. She made everything from scratch and it is the best soup I ever tasted! I don’t know what the recipe is, but below is some more information on Pho from Wikipedia.
INFORMATION ON "PHO" VIETNAMESE SOUP:
Phở, written as pho and pronounced "fuh" by English speakers, is a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup dish. Phở is served as a bowl of white rice noodles in clear beef broth, with thin cuts of beef (steak, fatty flank, lean flank, brisket). Variations featuring tendon, tripe, meatballs, chicken leg, chicken breast, or other chicken organs (heart, liver, etc.) are also available.
The broth is generally made by simmering beef (and sometimes chicken) bones, oxtails, flank steak, charred onion, and spices, taking several hours to prepare. Seasonings include Saigon cinnamon, star anise, charred ginger, cloves, and sometimes black cardamom. The noodles, called bánh phở in Vietnamese, are traditionally cut from wide sheets of fresh rice noodles similar to Chinese Shahe fen, although dried noodles (also called "rice sticks") may also be used.
The dish is garnished with ingredients such as green onions, white onions, coriander leaves, ngò gai ("saw leaf herb"), mint, Thai basil, lemon or lime, bean sprouts, and chile peppers. The last four items are usually provided on a separate plate, which allows customers to adjust the soup's flavor as they like. Some sauces such as hoisin sauce, fish sauce, and the Thai hot sauce Sriracha, are popular additions as well. The herb ngò ôm (Limnophila aromatica) is sometimes also added. (Source: Wikipedia)

Jamie Oliver is a hero of mine for many reasons... He, along with my excellent mother, taught me how to cook over the last 10 years. His books have been my go-to resource for learning about different kinds of fruit, vegetables, meat and fish as well as how to prepare them. Given this history, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride as I watched him take the stage at the TED 2010 conference and deliver an inspiring and powerful speech about childhood obesity, fast food, cooking, sustainability, education, health care and responsibility.
I've spent the last few hours spreading the message on twitter, facebook, my food blog, email and now finally through my outlet of photography on flickr. This is TOO important not to talk about and take action on, especially given the momentum that Michelle Obama has initiated with her agenda to eradicate childhood obesity. If you are a parent, or are responsible for feeding children, this is a MUST-WATCH.

My girls turn 14 and 12 on Saturday and Monday. Needless to say it's a very busy time of year here. I spent today running birthday and holiday-related errands.
It was a day full of mishaps. This morning we blew the same fuse, twice, and I couldn't find a flashlight. So I, twice, used a candle to go into my spider-web infested crawl-space basement to flip the switch. Later there was a big mix-up with the school about how my younger daughter was supposed to get home. She didn't show up on the bus, and I didn't show up to pick her up, so we were both a little frantic. And all evening I've been battling Photoshop's freezing on me.
I'm excited to go to bed and wake up to a fresh day. Tomorrow's a baking and wrapping day.
I have to check my 365 file. I started on December 21 so should only have three days left, but according to this number, I have four. I'm too tired to figure it out now.

This is one of the very first photos I took with a digital camera many years ago. A dear friend bought me these little cakes from Starbucks for my birthday - they were just scrumptious! This shot I took with available light - and this photo I added a dry paint brush effect via Photoshop.
After its little portrait session yesterday, this broccoli’s getting ready for the real work! 💦
A good rinse to keep it fresh and clean before cooking. Love catching these everyday kitchen moments.

My sister-in-law made this absolutely delicious Mexican shrimp Ceviche salsa....oh so good. She makes the BEST salsa!
MORE INFORMATION ON CEVICHE:
Ceviche (also spelled as cebiche, seviche or cevice) is a form of citrus marinated seafood salad, popular in many Latin American countries, originating in the Viceroyalty of Peru. One theory suggests that it got its name from the Quechua "siwichi". However, it is likely to be a cognate of another Spanish word, "escabeche" (marinade), derived from the Arabic term "sikbaj". Another theory suggests that its name comes from the word Cebo, the name given to the Corvina fish by black Peruvians.
The marinade used in ceviche is citrus based, with lemons and limes being the most commonly used. This being said, other citrus fruits may be used instead. In addition to adding flavor, the citric acid causes the proteins in the seafood to become denatured, which pickles or "cooks" the fish without heat. Traditional style ceviche was left up to 3 hours for marinade. Modern style ceviche usually has a very short marinating period. With the appropriate fish, it will marinate for as long as it takes to mix the ingredients, serve and carry to the table.
Source: Wikipedia
Although I do not have my sister-in-law's personal recipe, I found the Mexican Ceviche recipe below which sounds similar:
Recipe Ingredients:
2 pounds Cubed white fish or bay scallops, raw
5 - 10 Fresh serrano or jalapeño chiles (very hot), diced
1 Red bell pepper, diced
1 Green bell pepper, diced
1 Onion, diced
3 Ripe tomatoes, diced
1 - 2 cloves Garlic, minced
1 Large avocado, diced
1 bunch Cilantro, with stems removed and diced
1 tsp Sukkar Pure Cane Syrup or brown sugar
2 cups Lime juice
1/2 cup Lemon juice
1 bag Tortilla chips or
1 package Saltine crackers
Pinch Salt and pepper
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recipe Instructions:
In a large bowl combine all ingredients except l/2 the avocado and cilantro. Toss gently but thoroughly, making sure all fish is coated with lemon-lime mixture.Cover and refrigerate for one to three hours, stirring occasionally. Fish should become quite white and scallops will lose translucent appearance. (Once this happens, you will know that the lemon juice has cooked the fish).

I took some photos for Future Positive project - www.thefuturepositive.com - for a story about Cornersmith Picklery (and also

This is an amazing place where all your pickle & preserved dreams come true.
Alex (one of the owners, along with her husband James) and her team of picklerers(?) were kind enough to make me feel welcome and free to spend a few hours shooting everything I found interesting at their picklery/workshop/office/shop/class.

But she wasn't too sad about it...
After all... in a world where we're constantly surrounded by millions of people on the streets, where we ride buses, wait at airports, eat at restaurants, cross the streets while connecting with others via cellphones and computers... in that constant flow of "others", it's crucial to have a bit of a "you" time...
Because if you are constantly hearing the physical or virtual voice of others, when will you have a chance to listen to yours and be in touch with who you are, with who you want to be?
