The NR class are a class of Australian diesel locomotive built by A Goninan & Co for National Rail between 1996 and 1998. They are currently operated by Pacific National. The QR National 5000 (and 5020) class locomotives, and all the C44aci model locomotives build by UGL Rail at Broadmeadow adopted the design from the NR Class, but with a variety of features to set them apart from each other and the NR Class locomotives.

Bermondsey Underground Station, London, England

This is turning out to be a favourite station of mine here at Bermondsey on the Jubilee Line. This escalator is just awesome, such a dynamic range of contrasting light beaming down from above. It creates some interesting patterns, reflections and patterns. I did try this in colour but for me just didn't work as well in B&W, I hope you do all like this.

Today I will be busy mainly getting my Landscape Photographer of the Year entries in. I know last year created a lot of controversy due to the fact of digital image manipulation. The winner had an image disqualified as it was deemed the image had been manipulated too much which was not in keeping of the competition. I suppose this argument has been going on a lot in recent years with the sophistication of image editing tools getting more and more efficient in what they do. I suppose we could argue this all day however I will try again this year, wish me luck! :-) Anyone else entering?

Information

Bermondsey tube station is a London Underground station. It is situated in the eastern part of Bermondsey in the London Borough of Southwark, and so also serves the western part of Rotherhithe.

The station itself was designed by Ian Ritchie Architects and was originally intended to have a multi-storey office building sitting on top. London Underground have yet to realise this second phase of the scheme.

It is on the Jubilee Line, having been built as part of the Jubilee Line Extension between London Bridge and Canada Water stations. It is notable for its extensive use of natural light. The main station entrance is situated on the south side of Jamaica Road. The station is in Travelcard Zone 2.

The station was opened on 17 September 1999.

Like its extension counterparts, Bermondsey station was designed with a futuristic style in mind by Ian Ritchie Architects. Extensively using natural light, it is built in both a cut-and-cover and tube design. The cut-and-cover section is supported by latticed concrete beams allowing light to penetrate to the platform level. The escalators down to this area are lined by flat concrete with a high ceiling to give a feeling of spaciousness. The bored section is encased with metal to keep in line the futuristic and metallic theme of the extension. As with all other deep level stations on the Jubilee Line Extension, Bermondsey station has platform edge doors for passenger safety and comfort.

First time visiting Slovakia since the Covid-19 pandemic and with the prospect of nice weather, a revisit was well overdue. Anyway, a brand new spot for lineside photography - this image was taken as a test shot to see if one would work at this location looking towards the station.

Here we see ZSSK Cargo locomotives 131067 and 131068 sporting their new livery hauling a set of wagons towards Vrutky and beyond on the hot morning of the 27/8/24. The train was captured passing through Nezbudska Lucka-Strecno, Slovakia.

Binalong Railway Precinct

Statement of Significance:

The station building at Binalong is unusual, being a country railway station located on an island platform and built to a design normally associated with suburban station buildings. It is rare for such an arrangement to be used at a relatively minor country location. The topography and layout of the yard is also unusual, with the station and yard elements located on a curved section of track that is cut into the side of an embankment on the Up side of the line.

Historical Notes:

Rail services at Binalong were officially opened on 1 November 1876 with a loop on the Up side, platform, waiting shed and temporary booking office (all located south of the present station building). Other early or original structures at Binalong included a goods shed (1876), enginemen’s rest house (relocated from Bowning, 1876), stockyards (1877), a gatehouse (1877), toilets (1881), name board (1881), 3 tonne yard crane (1883), and a weighbridge (1890). In 1878 the yard crane was transferred to Gunning. In 1883 the old ticket office was removed and a new station building erected and in 1884 the platform was lengthened (Forsyth, 1989).

Other major changes or additions in the late 19th and early 20th century included station interlocking in 1891, the introduction of a wool loading crane (1891), construction of an overbridge (1898), extension of the platform (1907), and the addition of a wool loading bank (1910). The second station building (located on an island platform) opened 22 December 1915 in conjunction with the duplication of the line. Other changes and additions at Binalong in c1915 included a signal box, Up and Down refuge sidings and locomotive watering facilities. A wheat stacking site was provided in 1917, with other additions including an ash pit in the Up refuge siding (1923) and automatic signals (1920) (Forsyth, 1989).

The station building closed in November 1989.

Smith Tower is a skyscraper in Pioneer Square in Seattle, Washington. Completed in 1914, the 38 storey, 149 m (489 ft) tower is the oldest skyscraper in the city and was the tallest office building west of the Mississippi River until the Kansas City Power & Light Building was built in 1931. It remained the tallest building on the West Coast until the Space Needle overtook it in 1962.

Smith Tower is an example of neoclassical architecture. Its outer skin is granite on the first and second floors, and terracotta on the rest. The exterior has been washed only once, in 1976, because it remains remarkably clean without regular washing.

The Alaskan Way Viaduct, completed on April 4, 1953, is a double-decked elevated section of State Route 99 that runs along the Elliott Bay waterfront in Seattle's Industrial District and downtown Seattle. It is the smaller of the two major north–south traffic corridors through Seattle (the other being Interstate 5), carrying up to 110,000 vehicles per day. The viaduct runs above the surface street, Alaskan Way, from S. Nevada Street in the south to the entrance of Belltown's Battery Street Tunnel in the north, following previously existing railroad lines.

The viaduct was damaged in the 2001 Nisqually earthquake, and was proposed to be replaced, in part by an underground tunnel running beneath the city's downtown core. The initial phase of demolition and removal of the viaduct began on October 21, 2011.
