On this Wednesday April 18th,2018 afternoon .We see the US and NM state flags fly at Half Staff after president Donald J. Trump order them lowed Sunset Saturday, April 21, 2018 . As a mark of respect for the memory of former first lady Barbara Bush ,who died on April 17th ,2018 . They flags are out of front of Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Fort Hazzard Substation in southern part of the county.

The people picture are off duty sheriff's Lieutenant Bubba Sanchez showing local resident Madison Delong ( daughter of Hank & Sarah Delong local ranchers ) and On duty Deputy Brady Munoz ( taking a real short break ) his new engine that he put in his 1969 Ford F-100 . A long for the ride is one of Bubba's dogs Badge . Inside the substation is Sergeant Jerry Sparks who going over some paper work with Substation Administrative Secretary Karen Lime.

On this Monday November 24TH,2019 afternoon .We crews with Hazzard Range County public works and Tri County Electric Cooperative putting up the community Christmas tree in Memory park in the county seat of Sparta . Also Pictured is county Sheriff’s office Lieutenant Bubba Sanchez who stop by to see how progress is coming . This Saturday a tree lighting ceremony will be held .

Clay county sheriff's office Deputy Barb Rogers took a report of suspicious person in Forest city .Scene investigated and cleared

As the sun comes up on this January 1st ,2020 .We see Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Bubba Sanchez walking back to his unit out front of the county government center ( sheriff's office located on first floor )to drop some paperwork off . His next stop is county public works yard to drop trailer off, then he is headed home for well deserved sleep .

He spent the night ( New Years Eve ) working a DWI checkpoint with NM State police officers and in the livestock trailer is traffic cones and signs that was used at the checkpoint .

 

On this Sunday high near 61°F Feb 4th ,2024 mid afternoon ,We see Hazzard Range county Sheriff Troy Forbes doing his own monitoring traffic on NM 168 / Main St as people wait for Miller Transport Services 4:20 Sunday Bus that is more packed than normal as New Mexico Rail Runner Express sunday afternoon train is not running south of Oasis Springs ( 75 miles north of here ) thanks to accident south of town . So Miller Transport Services is operating the last leg of New Mexico Rail Runner Express trains today.

One of people getting off the bus is Cheryl Sanchez who’s is town for her late brother Dale funeral

One of his adult children ,Bobby, is picking her up. He is talking to a woman on the platform about the job NMDOT did on repairing NM 168 / Main St here in Sparta, the county seat of Hazzard Range county .

Apache County Sheriff's Office Deputy Rusty Dewitt advised he was assisting a US Border Patrol Agent near Thunder Canyon Raceway Exit on I-25 on Thunder Canyon Raceway rd .

As the wind blows on this Tuesday Feb 6th,2018 late Morning . We see Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Deputy Andy Gather talking with Court security and Civil Process deputy Amanda Wisey .outside of Fort Hazzard Substation in southern part of the county. Also pictured is Unmarked New Mexico state police Ford CVPI used by Sergeant Ted Moe. Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Sergeant Butch Soto Took a report of property damage and illegal dumping at White Mts flood control dam . Scene investigated and cleared ,appropriate agency notified .

White Mts flood control dam is a Detention dam in the southern part of the county and is on White Mts creek . It was built in 1980s to control flooding from when heavy rains happen ,most of time it is dry along with White Mts Creek . It has saved the area called Forks that sits only few miles south of here in northern Apache county NM more then once . See White Mts Creek flows into Radar creek that flows through Forks before meeting the Rio Grande river . There is also a Detention dam on Radar creek . .

Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Sergeant Blake Cooper assisted Investigator Clint Dallas with serving an arrest warrant at Hazzard Range High School on two 17-year-old males. A violation of the Controlled Substances Act was addressed during the same call.

An arrest warrant was issued for Friday, August 29, 2025, involving former Sheriff Travis Martin (2011-2014) mailbox, as well as a string of other vandalism reports from Friday, August 29th, to Monday, September 15th, 2025, in Sparta ( county seat ) and Eagle Lake townsites

Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Deputy Amanda Wisey took a report of vandalism in the 500 block ( Inter county railway maintenance shop ) River rd in Sparta . Scene investigated and cleared .

 

On this hot Monday June 24 ,2019 moring ,we see Hazzard county sheriff’s office Sergeant /Wildlife Investigator Floyd Firewalker talking with local gentlemen ,about wolves manly the Mexican Gray wolf .

See Floyd a 30 year veteran of the force and is the county's wildlife ( none human ) Investigator since 2014 . He mainly documents Wolf kills for local government level records and since Dec 2014 ,he has taken more than he likes to see .Mostly livestock ,but also some pets,but no humans yet . This he has taken all most 50 attacks in the three county area ,he been crossed commission with neighboring Sweetwater and Clay county sheriff's offices to investigate killings in their counties also. 2019 is mostly deadly year he has seen and with that ranchers who are in the Hazzard Range National Forest area, are feeling it hard . He knows some are struggling to keep a float .

Clay County Sheriff Shawn Gray is training his own Wildlife Investigator for to handle the ever rising killings in his county .Some livestock are killed and eaten ,others are just run to death and left for dead . Sheriffs , some residents and ranchers keeping pushing for the wolves to be delisted from the federal endangered status list ,before it’s too late for ranchers and other wildlife .

 

NOTE THIS STORY IS FICTION ,BUT BASED ON REAL EVENTS THAT HAPPEN IN RURAL AMERICAN WEST EVER DAY/WEEK . THAT IS ONLY GETTING WORST .

As storm systems approach the area on this Monday 18th Jan 2021 ,we see Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Deputy Andy Gather exiting one of the Portable toilets in front of the Sheriff’s office substation in Fort Hazzard . The restroom in the substation is out of order ,but should be fixed soon.

On this Thursday 11/22/2018 ( Thanksgiving ) .We see Hazzard Range County Sheriff's office Deputy Scott Doald headed back to his unit to head back on patrol after eating lunch at the Milk Bowl Dinner and Travel center , His shift will be over by the time his family eats Thanksgiving dinner .

Also here is Local business/property owner and county commission chair George " G.D " Dallas ( Green Cadillac with horns on the hood ) is having coffee with his old friend and and some time enemy Dale Sanchez a local farmer . In little bit G.D will head home to Thanksgiving dinner most of his family will be there ,His youngest son Clint a county sheriff's office deputy is working tonight.

Forks Police Department Captain Sean Bowwers took a report of abandoned truck on Tinker Bell rd . Tow called scene investigated and cleared .

Forks is made up of three ( Fork , Middle Fork and Top Fork ) little cluster of homes and business that form Forks In 1987 they consolidated to Form Forks with a total population of about 499 on the banks of Forks creek .Most part of the canyon they set in is home to small farms and with ranches in the surrounding desert .All three Villages set in Forks Creeks Canyon along the Forks Creek in Apache County NM , just over the County Line from Hazzard Range County. Also all three are served by joint Village Commission ,that has three Commissioners Forks Police Department ( FPD) has 5 officers including the Chief.

On this Saturday January 4,2020 afternoon. We see Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Ron Bayerd looking on as County Public Works Dept Information technician Director Darron Senski and Information technician assist Hank Daca try to get communication tower for sheriff's office substation in Fort Hazzard back up and running .

As the clouds clear on this Wednesday Nov 1st ,2017 ,we see Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Sergeant/Wildlife Investigator Floyd Firewalker headed along Katy Springs rd as he head up the Katy mt ( mesa ) ,he his being dispatch to a report of possible wolf kill .As he heads to scene he passes Ranch hand Martina Lin ,who after checking on other cattle is riding the spot .

Arriving on scene ,Sgt Firewalker meeting ranch owner Fred Brown and Range Veterinary Services

Veterinarian/owner Anthony Sullivan . After looking the dead cow over , Anthony tells them that looks like cow was dead before coyotes got at the the body . Little more investigation leads to showing it was shot . Sgt Firewalker ,who has taken many death of livestock and pets by wolfs ,had feeling this one was not one as for now the wolfs have not been this far way from Mt in Hazzard Range national forest . Floyd has been the county's wildlife ( none human ) Investigator since 2014 . He mainly documents Wolf kills for local goverment level records and since 2014 ,he has taken more then he like to see .Mostly livestock ,but also some pets,but no humans yet . He still handles other Law Enforcement type calls ,but wolfs kills keeps him the most busy .

Hazzard Range Sheriff’s office Sergeant Jerry Sparks took a report of an abandoned Jeep off of Lookout rd near the Rio Grande river . Scene investigated , Moose towing dispatch ,scene cleared .

On this high near 83 °F Saturday Feb 8th 2025 late afternoon we see a buzz activity at Government Center Plaza located next to the County Government Center in Sparta the county seat of Hazzard Range County. We also see County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Amanda Wisey heading back to her unit, She is heading home since her shift is done to change and get her jeep. She going out with a few of her friends to the newly reopened Runway bar that has been closed since COVID-19 hit back in 2020.

Runway Bar is out on the western edge of Sparta across the street from the county airport and you might guess very close to the runway.

Hazzard Range County sheriff’s office Sergeant Jerry Sparks ticketed a 39 year old driver for speeding 84 MPH in 55 mph zone in the Turkey Flats area on NM 323 .

 

On this Hot ( 101°F ) July 7th 2020 afternoon ,we see Hazzard Range County sheriff’s office Deputy Andy Gather headed out of the sheriff’s office substation in Fort Hazzard in the southern part of the county.

Also pictured Sergeant Jerry Sparks and Court security and Civil Process Deputy Dave Otero units . Deputy Otero unit is a 2010 Ford CVPI ,was assigned to the county Undersheriff till late spring 2017

On this Tuesday April 14th,2020 .We see Hazzard Range county Sheriff's office Lieutenant Ron Bayerd headed south on NM 168 as he leaves Sparta the county seat and heads back to the southern end of the county . He crossing the bridge that was built in the 1980s to replace an older bridge . The bridge passes over the Carben rd , Railroad tracks and the Rio Grande .

On this Sunday Dec 21st afternoon we see Inter County Railway ( ICR ) 7th annual Christmas Train exiting Tunnel 1 near Pass small census-designated place at based of Rattlesnake mts in southern Sweetwater county slowing for stop at old station platform as it crossing Depot RD

ICR Christmas Train is on 7th year has routes back 1930s

In 2018 Hazzard Range county Sheriff Troy Forbes and ICR General Manager Pauline Bailey along with community leaders along the rail line went together to put this together .Fundraisers all year long for clothes ,toys ,food and school supplies have helped to give back to communities ICR services .

Today's train started at Apache ,the county seat of Apache county ,then stops in north Apache,Forks station at the Hazzard Range county line . The next stop is at Fort Hazzard station then onto Sun ,Sparta ,Eagle Lake and winter cove stops . Last stops on the trip are in Sweetwater county and in Pass, Oasis Springs and Nelson .

Pass never grew much after the water stop was no longer needed and today it just services passing siding for trains ,there are still few homes and one vacated gas station along NM 168 . Also the old Railroad depot is still standing ,but owned by the county now and currently boarded up

On this Thursday Jan 25,2018 afternoon .We see Hazzard County sheriff's office Sergeant/Wildlife Investigator Floyd Firewalker ,has he heads down into the open field to meet with Rancher J.G Brooks,who found another of his cows dead after a wolves attack on his heard .

Floyd a 28 year veteran of the force and is the county's wildlife ( none human ) Investigator since 2014 . He mainly documents Wolf kills for local goverment level records and since 2014 ,he has taken more then he like to see .Mostly livestock ,but also some pets,but no humans yet .

This area of the county is the remote northwestern part of the county ,in the Agudo mts ,what is in Eastern part of Hazzard Range national Forest . It should be covered in snow ,but this winter so far little bit of snow it has gotten ,has melted off .

Agudo means sharp in Spanish.

Hazzard Range County sheriff’s office Animal control Deputy Katy Paca took a report of a dog running at large in the 800 block of 8th street in Sparta . Scene investigated/dog transport to shelter/ return to owner .

 

On this Hot Tuesday July 18th , 2023 after we see Forks new police Chief Lucas Martines Headed into the Forks Police station he is meeting with Apache County Sheriff's Office Captain Sean Brown . Chief Martines was hired in late June and been police chief of two other depts in NM over the last 5 years along 19 years in Law Enforcement

Apache Police Chief George Zax told the Journal that kids walking their dog found skeleton remains in the empty lot and remains have been sent to the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) more info we'll be released at a later day .

Apache Police Dept ( APD ) and New Mexico State police ( NMSP ) Detectives are working the case jointly .The remains might be linked to three murders in 2018 that are still unsolved .
