On this Monday March 16,2020 afternoon. .We see Hazzard Range county Sheriff Troy Forbes and Information Specialist Tom Night looking under the hood of Troy’s new unit that is only a week old in the fleet . He is glad to have a newer unit after his last one ran into electrical problems and was in the shop more than it then it was out . Let's hope this one is better !

On this Cloudy Saturday Dec 2 ,2017 .We see Fort Hazzard Substation Administrative Secretary Karen Lime talking with Linda Sullivan .Linda is waiting on her Husband Anthony Sullivan Veterinarian/owner of Range Veterinary Services. He is talking with Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Lieutenant Ron Bayerd, Hazzard Range National Forest , US forest service law enforcement officer Alvin Bennett and neighboring Clay County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Ben Miller. Anthony was on his way back from hunting trip when right on county line there was lot trash dump on a forest rd 101 ,but next to some county own land . So now the three Law Enforcement officers are going over maps to see what jurisdiction it is in before one of them investigates it .

After about 20 mins they decided it is USFS land and Clay County land .So it is thier case .

  

On this Warm ( high 70s ) Thursdays Nov 16th, 2017 afternoon ,we see Clay county sheriff's office Deputy Joe Stonesk watching for speeders on NM state rd 167 at lone cow hill rd in junction We also see the some cattle grazing . The Tractor Trailer his head to pick up another load of crude at drill site and then the driver will head back to Rail head in Sparta ( the county seat of Hazzard Range County east of here ) A trip of about 120 miles .

This Scene takes place in the Terreno llano Seco basin ( TLS basin ) and Terreno llano Seco means dry flat land in Spanish . TLS Basin is about 90 miles along ,about 20 miles wide in western Apache and Clay counties NM . Where oil companies have been drilling and pumping oil even when recent drop in crude prices that shut down many rigs ,there is still some pumping in TLC basin, but not nearly as much as in past years ,though that is starting to change and some rigs are going back on line .

CLAY COUNTY TIMES

Philipsburg police dept ( PPD) Officers and Clay county sheriff's office (CCSO) were involved in a short chase and crash that lead to stand off at warehouse on 12th AV Philipsburg . Interim Police Chief Edward Roberson told the Times that a CCSO deputy Hank Logan pulled over a late model Ford Mustang in 500 block of Business AV in the Philipsburg for broken tail light . When Deputy Logan got out if his vehicle the driver of the Mustang reversed ,backing into the deputy's unit and then fleeing south on Business AV .

PPD Sergeant AJ Martina spot the vehicle on Main st and pursued the car with assisted of PPD and CCSO officers . The chase ended when Deputy Logan did pit maneuver on the Mustang causing the driver to lose control and crash into loading dock of the warehouse . After a 45 min standoff the unnamed male surrendered and was taken into custody . Currently being housed at the Clay county Detention center and waiting to be extradited to Canada.

NMDOT is reporting - Roads are snow packed and icy in spots. Snow and blowing snow are reducing visibility.

Hazzard Range County sheriff's Office Sergeant/Wildlife Investigator Floyd Firewalker took a report of trespassers ( off roaders ) at Hazzard Range sand and gravel Pit B on Lopez RD .Scene investigated and cleared

On This Friday July 26th,2019 Morning .We see Hazzard Range county sheriff’s office Sergeant Butch Soto talking with Randy Hays co-owner of Hazzard Range sand and gravel outside of the Sheriff’s office Fort Hazzard Substation .

We also see the USA and NM Flags flying at half staff after Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham order them lowered in honor of the memory of Jeff Stroble, a 46 year old Roswell NM firefighter who died Sunday, July 21 . He was a 17-year veteran of the department, sustained injuries in the line of duty stemming from an explosion on June 5 that occurred while members of the Fire Department were preparing for the city’s 4TH of July fireworks show .

On this Monday April 22 , 2024 ,Late Afternoon we see Forks interim Police Chief Ann Dean talking with local farmer and her neighbor Scott Jemenez at their shared driveway area on X rd .Forks Joint Village Commission has going back forth on permanent chief since Oct 2023 when former Chief Lucas Martines resign after only few months on the job Scott tells her the Post office might be cutting out home delivery in canyon next . She shakes her head and says it always something

Forks is made up of three ( Fork , Middle Fork and Top Fork ) little cluster of homes and businesses that form Forks In 1987 they consolidated to Form Forks with a total population of about 899 on the banks of Forks creek .Most part of the canyon they set in is home to small farms and ranches in the surrounding desert .All three Villages set in Forks Creeks Canyon along the Forks Creek in Apache County NM , just over the County Line from Hazzard Range County. Also all three are served by a joint Village Commission that has three Commissioners Forks Police Department ( FPD) has a budget of 5 officers including the Chief .

On this Saturday Morning June 25 ,2022 we see Hazzard Range County public works worker closing off 2st and Old Mexico AV / NM 308 for Founder's day event the closes Old Mexico av off to traffic . The celebration takes place around the 28 June every year to celebrate the founding of Hazzard Range county way back on June 28 , 1883 and has a car show ,there is also a Parade ,rodeo ,vendors and live music.

Emergency Services Administrator ( ESA ) Davis Hokrer and County Sheriff Troy Forbes has put out travel Advisory for NM 323 and NM 308 long with Mist mt rd . With today's and tonight's wind gusts as high as 45 mph in lows lands and over 80 MPH in the passes of the higher elevations Thanks to strong storm systems Has already caused some trees to be knocked over and dust blowing in lower elevations . One case that the Sheriff's office took ESA Davis Hokrer noted was on NM 323 near southwestern county line of Jeep being hit by a tree .Luckily no one was hurt ,but did damaged the Jeep and blocked the rd for awhile .

On these late Monday July 29th,2019 afternoon . We see Hazzard Range county Assessor Holly Clark talking with Eagle Lake Irrigation District Irrigation Systems Manager along Main St here the county seat of Sparta .

Eagle Lake Irrigation District or ELID,operates and maintains the system for ELID members in the Rainbow ,Forks and Apache Valleys,

Rainbow Valley that is in Central part of the county ,it is about 25 mile long valley on the banks of the Rio Grande river. Sparta the county seat sets in north part of valley and it is called Rainbow valley because for all of the different colors of rocks . Irrigated mostly by the water of Eagle Lake want is just north of Sparta and wells . The valley grows many things ,but mostly Chile, Onions, Corn ,Pumpkins ,Pinto Beans ,pecans and cotton it is also home to three little census designated communities of Sun ,Mars and Rio Grande junction . Water for this area is diverted at Pump house Diversion Dam built in 1914

 

Forks Valley is smaller and goes east up Forks Canyon /Radar creek ,but there is a small handful of farmers who Irrigated from Rio Grande river . So water is diverted at Sierra Ridge Diversion Dam ( built in 1909 and water is Diverted at Apache Valley Diversion Dam ( built in 1911 ) . Both dams owned by the United States Bureau of Reclamation, which built them , and is operated by the Eagle Lake Irrigation District . Also both are in Apache county the county south of Hazzard Range county,

It is another warm 63°F late Jan ,2018 afternoon .We see Clay county Sheriff's office deputy Tracey Azima talking with Creekdale fire ( county volunteer fire Station 8 ) chief David Gard . With such a warm winter and no snow packet they are worried about the this years fire season .

Creekdale a small census designated community a few miles west of county line and mid way between Philipsburg and Sparta .It sits on banks of Swift creek in Cuchillo Asesino canyon that is in the Agudo mts ,what is in Eastern part of Hazzard Range national Forest. has seen little bit of snow/rain in last 4 months ,but nothing to really help . So like most of State Tracey and David hope and pray for change in weather to end this big dry spell.

Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s office Sergeant Jeff Bartly enforced traffic regulations on Eagle Lake Blvd in Eagle Lake .

 

On this Wednesday March 6th,2019, late Morning .We see Casey Torres and Ray Sammy both who are retired state workers play their daily game of chess in front of Sparta Auto parts ,as Hazzard Range county sheriff's Deputy George Carols talks to Reba Sanchez about her speeding . Reba and her 4 siblings all like to speed ,but their father Dale is really slow driver . Deputy Carlos just got done in court what is just next door to Sparta Auto parts ,

Reba is in a rush to meet her Boyfriend Deputy Taylor Sportisburg for lunch before she heads to work at the local bar and grill called Runway bar ,by the the county Airport .

As winds gusting as high as 65 MPH as strong storm system moves through the area on this Wednesday April 10th ,2019 afternoon .We see Clay county Sheriff's office Sergeant Lee Jamison waiting for a Nissan SUV and US Express Enterprises 18 wheeler pass before turning back east on NM 308 . This area is only a few 100 feet from the Arizona state line and is know for strong winds and blowing dust .So days like today NMDOT/State police and the sheriff's office has to be ready close the rd if it gets too bad .

NM state rd 308 is two lane rd from Sparta ( county seat of Hazzard range county ) 90 miles to Philipsburg ( county seat of Clay county ) ,after the rd leaves Phillipsburg it turns into 4 lanes rd for 55 miles . The rd is 5 lanes for 8 miles as it claims over Spring Tree pass out of Philipsburg into Forest city . From Forest city to state line it 47 miles as it crosses Terreno llano Seco basin ( TLS basin ) and TLS means dry flat land in Spanish. .Spring Tree pass is in the Verde mts Verde means Green in Spanish .

Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Jeff Bartly took a report of suspicious activity near Gray Dog campground along NM 323. Scene investigated and cleared, no issues found ..

Gray Dog Campground is one few along NM 308 that crosses the White Mt Range located in the southern part the county and is part of Hazzard Range National Forest and with it be Easter Weekend some locals like Aaron Pansfe trying to check on his Cattle he useing binoculars to try it for he don’t have deal with campers .but to no luck and with uptick of visitors Lieutenant Bartly is out this part of the county trying to catch some offroads locals in near by census designated area of Fort Hazzard area along with the far-flung ranchs and subdivisions have been complaining about or this call would been hours away.

 

On this Monday Oct 8th,2018 afternoon as sun sets through the clouds ,in front of Hazzard Range county Fort Hazzard Substation New Mexico State Police Officer Dean Penney , Hazzard Range Community Health center EMS Manager Garth Retil and county sheriff's office Sergeant Jerry Sparks , They and few other are getting ready to head into the White Mt Range and to locate a injured hiker off of Highland RD . In extreme southern part of the county . White Mt range in this part of county is Part of the Hazzard Range National forest .

The hiker was found with broken leg just south of Hazzard Range county in Apache county ,but closes Helicopter landing spot or road access is back near the Highland RD trail head so after few mile hike the Hiker was Airlift to Apache memorial hospital

Creekdale is a census designated area in eastern part of the county It sits on the banks of Swift Creek in Cuchillo Asesino canyon that is in the Agudo mts ,what is in Eastern part of Hazzard Range national Forest

 

On this last day of May ,2018 .We see Hazzard Range county sheriff's office Animal control Deputy William Martinez turning onto East Dallas Av from NM 168/Main st . Dallas Av was reopen on Wednesday May 30th ,after repaving and fixing the the utility tunnel ,along with storm drains . Red canyon Construction will now move onto Dallas west of Main st . That work will be encompass two blocks of Dallas AV and one block of 1st street .

The original work was done by H &ZZ construction in 2011 to 2015 time frame is all being replaced because of faulty construction done by H &ZZ construction . A settlement was reach in late Dec of 2017

The Motorist is man who's 2000 Jeep Cherokee overheated as he drove it up and over Devil Heat pass from Sparta the county seat of Hazzard Range county and at moment setting near 100 °F

On this 48 °F Monday November 30 ,2020 evening , We see Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s office Lieutenant Bubba Sanchez taken a moment to view the Community Christmas tree in the Government Center Park next to county Government center in Sparta the county seat ,

At 7:20 AM on Friday, Sept 5th 2025, Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s Office and Community Health Center EMS were dispatched to Lake View Motel at 220 Eagle Lake Blvd in Eagle Lake to report a stabbing. Undersheriff Ron Bayerd told the Bulletin that a 19-year-old male stabbed another 18-year-old male. The 19-year-old male was arrested and booked into the County detention center and released. The 18-year-old was treated at the Community Health Center ER. The case is still under investigation.

On Thursday Jan 24 ,2019 at 1:23 PM officials with Hazzard Range county sheriff's office ,Eagle Lake State park ,County volunteer Fire Station 7 EMS and extrication ( Eagle Lake ) ,Hazzard Range Community Health center EMS was dispatch to area on Ridge Cliffs rd in Eagle Lake state Park ,to a report of trap hiker . Sheriff Troy Forbes told the Herald with assistance of a helicopter ,the hiker was rescued and transported to Apache Regional Medical Center and latter to a hospital in Albuquerque and listed in serious ,but stable condition. Sheriff's Forbes and Eagle Lake State Park Superintendent Shelby Anderson would like to remind people to be careful in the park and don't enter into areas closed like Ridge Cliffs area .
