Spring water puddles. The grassy field at Jericho looks really big with the 15mm view. Very little flare even though the sun is almost directly in the lens.

The withe border in Aviary helps - corners have some fall off, but not badly considering that the lens covers 110 degrees.

I think it is blooming Yucca Cactus, Like the "flowers" - they curl up nicely when the weather gets bad,

Loading a Nikonos is not a speedy process! You have to remove the lens, break the "seal" between the inside chassis and the outside shell - pop it off, fold the film pressure plate away - load the film and reverse the process (including pushing the outside shell back on - putting the camera on a flat surface and try to push it together - greasing the O-ring seals helps somewhat.

Behind an awning with a multitude of signage - graffiti, chinese characters etc. The Lucky 100 has a very limited anti halation backing - and the film will flare!!!

I decided to exercise the old Zeiss Biogon 21mm f4.5. It is a Contax Rf mount, but the small "focus shift" between Contax and Nikon Rf;s is absorbed by the f4.5 maximum aperture. The Biogon formula still is one of the best for rectilinear rendition - only surpassed by the M mount Zeiss C Biogon 21mm f4.5.

This is also with the Fomapan Retro 320 - and here it looks right. Grainy, a bit contrasty - looks like early 60's "soot and chalk".

Chris, Dan and Melvyn posing outside Aphrodite's. Sign of spring - still light enough outside at 7 pm to shoot. This is fine, though I was focussing on the "OPEN" sign - thus slightly fuzzy faces.

Holds up pretty well - but any f1.0/1.1 lens requires a/ a camera with a perfectly set rangefinder and b/ careful focussing. There are no margins of error at F1.1 - and that includes keeping the film flat in the scanner.

Our usual Tuesday night hang-out, Aphtodite's has decided to close early on that evening! We had to find a new "home" - not the Modern Burger - but next to it, Benny's Bagels, at least until Aphrodite's got back to normal operations in March.

Rainy sidewal. The Pyrocat HD as a stand developer can give a bit of excessive contrast. The leaves are too bright for my taste.

Nikon F2AS, HP5+ in Pyrocat-HD

Weather co-operated with the choice of Orwo UN 54, a 100 iso film. It was really the first day of actual sun, after 17 days of tray and rainy weather. A walk around the Jericho Park and lots of gleaming tree trunks etc.

The S-mount Zeiss C Sonnar 50f1.5 is one of my favourite 50's. It might not be the sharpest of them, but it has a look in black/white that I like.

When the Cayman came out, I wasn't to sure about the styling - but it has grown on me. Looks rather sleek now - and with the dew accumulated on it - even better.

The is Pyrocat HD with Potassium Carbonate. Looks a bit better than the HD with the Sodium Carbonate. Not much difference, but mid tone are better, not as harsh as the Sodium carbonate.

The "canoe" bridge at the Village. Focus is on the strip on the foreground.

Dogs hate this bridge and often the owners have to carry them across. Something about the surface grid makes them nervous.

The bakery on Granville Island - best almond/chocolate croissants in town! The TriX used here is a bit "old" as is the developer which may account for the slightly "dull" rendition. Will load the S2 with some Orwo UN 54 for more shots with the lens (and the 15f4.5) and pray for some sun.

I am not too fond the Summicron 75's "bokeh". Tends to blow out the highlights a bit - but it certainly is sharp - and contrasty.

The Heliar 75mm f1.8 is "smoother" and a bit more mid tone oriented. The Summicron 75 is contrasty -a bit "technical" in its rendition. Would have been a fun lens to shoot Kodachrome 25 with.

The scopes at Jericho. Nice looking - but they need to have thetr optics cleaned.

Looks like a wash out for the fixtures.

A hint of barrel distortion close up.

results from the Camera Club outing is September. You had to use a camera that is at least 50 year old. I couldn't make it as we where flying to Frankfurt that day. The "subject" area was Coal Harbour - some interesting stuff and Peter won for the third year in a row!

Close to the school too - but obviously flunked latin - and penman ship! Also seemed to have problem with words with more than 3 letters.

A friend returned a F3 that I lent him some time ago - so a family portrait was in order. The F3/MD4 is an ergonomically very good set up. Fits the hand well too. The F with the F36 maybe not so pleasant to carry too long - but truly a classic F.

The F3's motor has a rather discreet "burp" when advancing - the F36 has a more "slam, bang" noise.

Street living in Kitsilano.

The Foma Retropan 320 reminds me of TriX in the 60's. This was when you developed in various hotel room, usually Rodinal 1:25 and transmitted pictures via a clunking rotary scanner. You prayed that the phone line stayed open long enough to transmit the entire image without lines. Usually stuck the wet print on the drum, sent it and then you tried to peel the wet print off.

Nice old style barbershop. Elaborate light fixtures and comfortable chairs too. Almost worth a haircut!

Does this mean that your wine is on tap? Oenophiles world wide unite. Bad enough with the screwcaps.

Mexican beer and food place in Gastown. The combination of Fuji Acros 100, Pyrocat HD and the Planar 50mm f2.0 is rather stunning. Sharp, nice contrast and no flare.

Patterned walkway. Just testing a new batch of Pyrocat - and a new 400 ft can of EK 5222. In the movie industry they insist on matched emulsion numbers - I am less of a perfectionist - mixed numbers are fine. Shooting Sunny f16 is not that precise anyway.
