Photographs made while exploring and documenting Ohio’s State Nature Preserve system. Some of the only places left in the state where nature remains uninterrupted. These lands are underappreciated, underfunded, but rich with a subtle beauty that I revere with my view camera.

Completed in 1856, the Port Hope Station is a Grand Trunk Class B Wayside Station with a six-bay design. Constructed of local limestone in the Italianate Style, the station saw the addition of a telegraph bay in 1881. While threatened with demolition in 1978, funding mean for the construction of a new simple shelter by Canadian National instead went towards restoration in 1980. Today it is one of only two operational Grand Trunk Stations and one of nine surviving original GTR stations in Ontario.

This was taken near small waterfalls, place normally crowded, but currently is quite lonely. Mamyia 7II, FP4+, in Pyrocat-hd, printed on Fomabrom var. 111 in Moersch ECO.
After my first trip to Hocking Hills last April, there have been an additional 4 trips made, and it's all due to the scenery!
Seen here are the Lower Falls, at the opposite end of the Old Man's Cave Upper Falls. This trail is a joy to hike on, especially early morning, when it's just you, the meandering stream, and nature! At the same time this was taken, there was also a frame captured to be converted to DR5 Chrome. In the end, the chromes look 10x as amazing as the B&W negative!

It's amazing what a little precipitation and frigid air can do to an otherwise boring scene. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Fat Man's Squeeze, this tiny falls proved quite the site for ice buildup.

"He had a fixed conviction that at least one of them must lead into summer weather. Each time this meant that I had to go around with him to each of eleven doors, hold it open while he satisfied himself that it was winter out that way, too, then go on to the next door, while his criticisms of my mismanagement grew more bitter with each disappointment."

Some of the most memorable treks out to Hocking Hills also happen to be some the most treacherous! An otherwise calm morning was quickly elevated to a Level 1 snow emergency in the time it took to drive to Hocking Hills and back!
When I arrived at Ash Cave, there was no snow on the ground, but by the end of this exposure, my tracks were covered and this "light dusting" of snow was only the beginning!
