Red-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer) is identified by its short crest giving the head a squarish appearance. The body is dark brown with a scaly pattern while the head is darker or black. The rump is white while the vent is red. The black tail is tipped in white. The Himalayan races have a more prominent crest and are more streaked on the underside. Sexes are similar in plumage, but young birds are duller than adults. The typical call has been transcribed as ginger beer but a number of sharp single note calls likened as pick are also produced. Their alarm calls are usually responded to and heeded by many other species of bird.

The streak-eared bulbul (Pycnonotus conradi) is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds.

It is found from Thailand and northern and central Malay Peninsula to southern Indochina.

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

The streak-eared bulbul was originally described in the genus Criniger. Until 2016, the streak-eared bulbul was considered to be conspecific with the Ayeyarwady bulbul while still using the name 'streak-eared bulbul' (as Pycnonotus blanfordi).

Yellow-vented Bulbul - Babies 4days old

Pycnonotus goiavier ..............................

White-browed Bulbul (Pycnonotus luteolus) is about 20 cm long, with a moderately long (8 centimetres or 3 inches) tail. It has olive-grey upperparts and whitish underparts. This species is identifiable by the white supercilium, white crescent below the eye, and dark eyestripe and moustachial stripe. The vent is yellowish and there is some yellow on the chin and moustache. The throat is however largely whitish unlike in the similar looking and sounding yellow-throated bulbul which is found in rockier habitats. Three or four hair-like filoplumes are present on the nape. Sexes are similar in plumage. It is usually detected by the burst of song that it produces from the top of a bush and often dives into the bush becoming difficult to see. The song is a rich, spluttering warble and the bird is more often heard than seen and is slightly darker and has a shorter wing than the nominate race.

This pair of juveniles will depend on their parents for food for the time being. Apart from receiving regular supply of a variety of food items from insects to plant materials, they're also encourage to make short flight among the foliage and forage for potential food source themselves. This is part of the training to prepare the youngsters to lead their independent lives in the days to come.

The red-whiskered bulbul was introduced by the Zoological and Acclimatization Society in 1880 to Sydney, became well established across the suburbs by 1920, and continued to spread slowly to around 100 km away. It is now also found in suburban Melbourne and Adelaide, although it is unclear how they got there.
