A shot from a test roll of Tri-X rated at EI1600 and processed in DD-X 1+4. This is as fast as I like to go when pushing film, and it is marginal at best for street photography as typical nighttime exposures here are in the 1/30th to 1/60th second range when using a 50mm f1.5 lens wide open.
I normally shoot film images using Ilford Delta 400, partly because it is slightly cheaper, and partly because their web site has Don't Panic written metaphorically in large friendly letters through all the processing guides.
The Tri-X definitely has a strong curve compared to pushed Delta 400, although with a hybrid workflow it is easy to adjust the scans to look very similar. What I like is the slightly better exposure latitude and slightly increased grain which I think helps the images rather than being too intrusive.
I am very tempted to try a project on night-time street photography using Tri-X, although with an existing on-going long-term project based on Delta I do not really want to mix film stocks just now.

Working in Hangzhou last weekend, I stayed an extra night and took advantage of the city's new public bike system, paid my deposit, and set off (its the largest bike-share in the world now, overtaken Paris, with 50,000 bikes on the streets). I'd seen most of the West Lake before, so I headed down to the Qiantang River, now site of the city's future CBD. Cycling back through the gridlock of the existing city centre was a nightmare, but I'm pleased to say the new city centre has kilometers of dedicated cycle paths. Shanghai take note !
Oh, and I almost forgot ...Merry Xmas...

I like a nice wet street shot. The drawback of wet streets is, of course, rain. Here I was almost blinded by drizzle on my bifocals and in the waist-level finder of my camera. I think I used the sports finder in the end. Here, a couple of hundred yards downstream from the confluence of the Rhondda Fach and the Rhondda Fawr, the combined waters tumble rapidly past, swollen by a week or more of what the missus and I call "double rain" ...a reference to the little pictograms used in the Met. Office online forecast, which indicate heavy rain by two drops falling from a black formalised cloud. On the opposite bank was the Porth branch of Morrison's, where I'd left the car. You can park free for three hours. I'd say that's jolly decent of them ...although it was probably a condition forced on them by the Council at the planning permission stage. The weather was not an inducement to tarry, but I resolved to return on a finer day. The rushing river and the all-surrounding hills faintly reminded me of Exmoor, North Devon and Lynmouth, but without the cream teas, morris dancers and "grockles".
