dear Flickr friends,

I am considering the purchase of a new scanner, probably an Epson 4490, to scan negatives. Quite frankly, the idea bugs me.

I've always held onto the idea that the entire process from shooting to printing is important, that to keep it analog the whole way through is imperative for what I do, for the medium. It bugs me because I do not want to give up my darkroom and I don't intend to, but I feel that I'll neglect it. Quite frankly, I need to justify selling myself out even further to digital technology.

Any words of consolation or advice would be helpful. Thank you.

love, huy

I have an idea in my head. This doesn't quite portray it though.

Pentacon Six TL w/ Carl Zeiss Jena Biometar 80mm f/2.8 and Kodak Tri-X @ EI 800 (Kodak Xtol 1:0, Ilford rapid fixer). f/4, 1/60s. Epson V600 and EpsonScan @ 4800 dpi, downsized to 2400 dpi. Retouched and cropped.

This photo was on my "interesting photos"-list when I made my first review. But the model didn't pick it, until a few weeks ago when she reviewed the photos once again. Since the photos had to be reviewed by her then agency, I didn't bother to edit the photo.

The model showed it to a couple of friends that thought she reminded of the Victoria Secret model Elsa Hosk. (Most professional models would kill for that gig, because they would never have a problem to get a modelling job ever again)

The film was developed for 7m45s @ 22.0 C. (6m45s + 15% to compensate for reusage of the developer). I'm starting to enjoy Tri-X when pushed to 800, it certainly have a better look than pushed to 1600. The downside with pushing film one stop is that the shadow details get thin (but are still there, unlike a two stop push)

I've almost forgot that I took this shot. I like it's quirky nature.

I took this photo before I had invested in a cable release, hence not perfect sharpness. And the downside with TLR's is that the photo in the background wasn't cut off when I framed the photo, although it was just barely in the frame.

Shot a roll in a day in Tallinn(except for couple of pictures) during a working trip there, 15th of December. The film had been dipped in Red wine (not cheap either!) before shooting. Funky colors! Too bad it was the probably darkest day ever, so I really had to rush to get this over with. Shot the roll in about 90 minutes, except for those five frames back home the next day.

This was my first RAD -try, so please do not judge me. :D
