Steph wasn't actually listening to music but rather using the head phones as earmuffs. Air was crisp and with a stiff breeze on occasion so I also wound up loaning my gloves to her.
Unlike the previous photo of her, in this one I actually increased the contrast just a little bit.
This was taken with the Pentax ME Super (she was handling my K2) using a Sears 135mm f/2.8 on HP5+ with an XO (yellow-green) filter on the lens. Although I could have shot it at box-speed, it was bright and sunny and so I decided to pull it one stop to 200 to thwart any tendencies towards too high contrasts. Developed in Ilfotec for 8 minutes at 20 deg.

Every once in a while I happen to come across this rare day where everything is just about perfect: The weather, the location, the lot.
This happened to me today, more to the point, around 7.30am in Battery Park. It's too early for the tourist to have flooded and spoiled the place, so all you will encounter is the handful of locals doing an early work-out as well as a few people dipping their fishing rods into the Hudson.
I've fallen into the habit of never taking more than one lens with me. This morning, it was the Sears 135mm f/2.8 (which I had to replace several times till I finally got a specimen with a working diaphragm), with a yellow-green filter screwed onto it. Camera was the Pentax K2 whose metering I've come to trust better than that of my smaller ME Super.
This morning would have maybe called for color film but Ilford Delta 400 was what I had. I shot it at ASA 200 and developed it in Ilfotec DD-X for six minutes at 20/68 deg.
It occurred to me that I hadn't actually used a traditional 35mm SLR in a very long time so I decided to grab the K2 on a mild and sunny Sunday morning to head out to the Upper West Side where I was to meet Stephanie who suggested we should try a particular West Indian restaurant.
We were there earlier than expected and had to kill some time before the restaurant even opened. An excellent excuse therefore to drag her to nearby Morningside Park and under her stern protests take a few photos of her - light was after all nice and soft but not too mushy.
I had on me the Pentax M-120mm f/2.8 which is not a lens known for its biting sharpness, certainly not when you slightly misfocus it as I did here. I nonetheless like it for its diminutive size and its focal length which is right in my wheel house. I shot this either at f/4 or wide-open at f/2.8 on HP5+ at ASA 200. It was developed in HC-110 (dilution B) for 4 minutes.
One thing I did which I haven't done before is add a thin black border to the image. I like it and may do so again from now on.
On closer inspection, it seems almost irrelevant that there is a black frame around it with flickr using a black background by default.
