I'm not sure what happened here, why is there that vertical stripe - it's on negative, so it can be film defect, development defect (most likely), or even shutter defect...

i accidentally shot this roll at 100 instead of 400, so two stops overexposed. i wasn't sure whether or not to take advantage of portra's latitude and just process normally, but in the end i had the lab pull process two stops to compensate for my mistake. the photos turned out better than i had a right to expect!

This was the last photo I took while on my trip to the Porcupine Mountains. It's such an amazing location, every way you turn there is another photograph waiting to be taken. This is why I must return for the fall turnover. The idea of such landscapes under canopies of color is too much to resist.

Meanwhile the battle had raged furiously along the whole line. The rattle of musketry would swell into a full continuous roar as the simultaneous discharge of ten thousand guns mingled in one grand concert, and then after a few minutes, become more interrupted, resembling the crash of some huge king of the forest when felled by the stroke of the woodman's axe. Then would be heard the wild yells which always told of a rebel charge, and again the volleys would become more terrible and the broken, crashing tones would swell into one continuous roll of sound, which presently would be interrupted by the vigorous manly cheers of the northern soldiers, so different from the shrill yell of the rebels, and which indicated a repulse of their enemies. Now and then the monotony of the muskets was broken by a few discharges of artillery, which seemed to come in as a double bass in this concert of death, but so impenetrable was the forest that little use was made of artillery, and the work of destruction was carried on with the rifles. i won't lie, i've been feeling more than a little envious of all the wonderful and bokehful blossom shots that have been popping up in my flickr feed from all of my lovely and talented photographer contacts in portland. (OT: why are there so many amazing female film photographers in portland?) so much so that i left work early one day last week and drove around santa barbara like a crazy person looking for cherry/plum/peach blossoms, anywhere, anywhere at all, only to learn that the scant number of cherry trees around here actually flowered almost two months ago. so, i will make do with this little wisteria border on my next door neighbour's fence, which is really not the same thing at all, and just be grateful that i get to experience the beautiful blossoms of the northwest through flickr!

At long last, we've reached the end of my mini-series of shots taken at the Cuyahoga Valley National Parks. Nearly 1 block from yesterday's photo, I just had to have a picture of these wicked looking roots! The way they were clinging on to this upward slope, the way one of the roots swirled downward into the ground. The detail in them was just mesmerizing, and made the super long wait for the exposure all the more worth-while.

Test of new Pentacon Six, finally back from being repaired and serviced in Germany, after the mirror broke during shipment from Ukraine. I had one ten years ago and regretted selling it. Kept 3 lenses though, a 45mm, 80mm, and 180mm. The test was successful but one must load the film carefully in this camera, ensuring it is tight and straight. I expect to be using this camera often in the years to come.

I tried to shoot and develop this Ilford Delta 3200 at 800 speed but I think it lost one or two stops from the ten year expiration. Probably should have shot it at 800 and developed as 3200.

Aloe vera are easy to grow indoors under bright light and propagate readily from asexual reproduction. Small "pups" grow next to the larger plants. I started with 5 a few years ago, I think there are around 20 now. You can use them to soothe burned or irritated skin. Some people ingest them but I have heard that may not be healthy. They can tolerate months or even longer without water as well as extremely hot temperatures.

Shot with LC-A+, using Fuji Sensia 400, rated at 200 ISO (1 stop over-exposed). Pull processed by 1 stop to compensate, and reduce contrast.

I was taking a break from driving home and I decided to test how Sensia performs when cross processing.

1) 1-stop under exposed, no post-processing.

2) Exposed correctly, no post-processing.

3) 1-stop over exposed, no post-processing.

4) 1-stop under exposed, automatic correction.

5) Exposed correctly, automatic correction.

6) 1-stop over exposed, automatic correction.

I think it looks nicest with 1 stop over exposure with auto exposure during scanning.

This shot is really astounding to me. Pulling Plus-X 2 stops in Xtol really flattens the contrast, but this shot has detail I didn't see with the naked eye when viewing the scene. I have no idea what's going on in the sky here, it looks like it's city light reflecting from overcast cloud layer but the sky was virtually cloudless (with a few exceptions seen in the other shots of this scene). Most of the detail in the foreground and the trees I couldn't see, it was dusk before they turned on the floodlamps (as you can see in the IR version of the scene). The statuesque details in the unlit truss was also unseen. The angled rays from the lights on the roof I never noticed before, and I've been there since and can't see them. It's simply amazing what this film can pull out of the shadows when pulling it to this extreme!
