Village Addegaon, Block Zari, Dist. Yavatmal, Maharashtra, INDIA.
Village Volunteer Kalyani Bodhe during a meeting in Addegaon Village. Village Addegaon, Block Zari, Dist. Yavatmal, Maharashtra, INDIA. 24-year-old Prashant Gonde joined UNICEF as a Village Volunteer in January 2013, undergoing two rounds of training for his new role. But that is not his only claim to fame. He is also the President of the Village Child Protection Committee- a forum designed, pioneered and facilitated by UNICEF. The VCPC is a guardian of child rights: it’s prime goal is to promote a protective environment for children in a community. As this body’s head, Prashant has focused on issues like child marriage and education. In fact, he helped enrol 3 out-of-school children (OoSC) in the Zila Parishad school. My goal is to ensure that every single child in Adegaon becomes a graduate at least. Working for society has not been easy for Prashant and his fellow volunteers Pravin, Chetan and Kalyani, because of the lack of support from the larger village community. Many elders dismiss their advice and tear down UNICEF posters and banners that the volunteers pasted around the village to raise awareness. But against all odds, these youth continue to power on. UNICEF organises training workshops for village volunteers in all blocks in the three districts of Jalna, Wardha and Yavatmal on a regular basis. These workshops are residential and usually span three to five days. The trainers comprise members of UNICEF’s field team in each block, which includes members of local NGOs that UNICEF has tied up with. The trainers teach the volunteers about every aspect of child protection, introducing them to structures like the state government, the district council, the Village Child Protection Committee, the School Management Committee, Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee among others..

Weird collision of thoughts went into producing this. I've been discussing the recession at work recently, and thinking of cash; I've also been reading Le Morte d'Arthur, the legend of King Arthur and remembered the tale of Alderley Edge in Cheshire where King Arthur is supposed to lie in wait, magically sealed in a cave until he and his knights are needed most, and then ride forth to save the day.
Not that I'm competetive but I hired a photo studio that has a couple of large safes in it just for this shot.
The idea is that the Golden Queen, kept under safe 'protection' has finally been summoned forth to save the world from economic meltdown.
It made sense at the time!

The Cozad-Bates House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. National Register listing, however, is only honorific and does not offer protection from insensitive changes or demolition. The Cozad-Bates House currently sits abandoned and deteriorated — a classic case of a structure threatened with demolition by neglect. In 2003, the City of Cleveland cited the property’s owner, University Hospitals, for extensive housing code violations.
The Cleveland Restoration Society and the City of Cleveland’s Landmarks Commission have been working to preserve the Cozad-Bates House for many years. University Hospitals has objected to previous attempts to designate the structure as a City of Cleveland Landmark. Landmark status would make it more difficult to demolish the structure. University Hospitals has not disclosed its plans for the Cozad-Bates House.

I use the gloves because the peppers will burn my eyes if for whatever reason I rub my eyes after preparation. That's obvious. The less-than-obvious application is for slicing the tomatoes. All that acid in the tomatoes can really burn your skin! I found this out the hard way after I stopped using canned tomatoes in favor of using the fresh variety and my left hand sustained light (yet really irritating) chemical burns.

I came across this archive shot of my daughter.. It's nearly two years old, taken when she was only six months. I can't believe she's now already two and a half years old... I have always liked this image, the way her eyelashes appear to have a life of their own, sprouting upwards on the bottom eyelid.. perfect design to protect the eye :)
