Inauguration ceremony for new health facility in Protection of Civilians site 3.
International Medial Corps has been providing emergency health services in the UN House Protection of Civilian sites since early 2014, serving a population of close to 30,000 IDPs.
With 200 staff, IMC has provided over 50,000 consultations, including more than 3,000 anti-natal and post-natal consultations and over 380 primary health consultations daily in the outpatient department; over 6,000 children have received routine health vaccinations. More than 1,400 children have been born in IMC health facilities.
With the support of UNFPA and OFDA, International Medical Corps recently upgraded reproductive health and outpatient care facilities in the site. These facilities, which were previously based in emergency tents, are now semi-permanent structures offering adequate space for care. This inauguration ceremony serves to present the new facilities and services to the community, as well as to recognize the tireless efforts of the health facility workers.
Services offered in the POC clinic include maternity and delivery, anti-natal and post-natal care, family planning, routine vaccinations, outpatient care, pharmacy, prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), HIV counseling and testing, mental health services, and community health promotion. A 24-hour ambulance service offers access to services in POC1 including 24-hour emergency and in-patient nutrition stabilization center, as well as emergency referrals to higher-level care facilities.

Travellers concerned about airport full-body scanners can now cover their private parts with a new product developed by a LA-based company (see above).
“Flying Pasties” are made from 2mm-thick rubber and can be slipped under clothing to conceal sensitive areas which would otherwise be visible in the scan.
The gadgets are available with humorous slogans such as “Only my boyfriend sees me naked”.
A spokesperson for the company said “Until now, citizens haven’t had a proper way to voice their displeasure over the intrusive nature of airport scanners”.
He said Flying Pasties are meant to allow travellers “the ability to retain their self dignity” while not interfering with security.
