I have much more dramatic images from the Palouse this year, but as you probably know me, I am quite fond of the softer, quieter and subtler moments that play out, and such is the case with this image.
I may not be much of one for getting up for sunrise, but once I am past that painful, awkward first two minutes, I really do enjoy being out as the day begins. In this case, there was a small group of us up on Steptoe Butte marveling at the texture in the sky and the soft light on the land. We started out at the top of the butte but stopped about halfway down at this pull-out and I promptly got my only pair of shoes soaking wet wading through the dew-heavy grass because I could see this tree from the road and I knew I needed a photo of it. And this is how that small group of us, tree included, began our Sunday morning.
More mornings should start like this.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was going to start a garden. I'm not much of a gardener and since we live in a condo we have limited space but I was determined. I set up some planters and pots on our balcony, filled them with dirt and planted a bunch of seeds. Radishes, Lettuce, Peas, Dill, Cucumbers and a tomato plant. That was almost a month ago and I'm happy to say that my mini-garden is coming along quite nicely. Aside from the tomato plant which promptly died after a rather cold night, the seeds have grown into sprouts and are now on their way to becomming tasty tasty vegetables.
This week's Soul Pancake theme was perfect, I set up a few more pots and started a new chapter in my garden, a few more herbs and some kale...I like getting my hands deep into the dirt, it feels right.

As a fundraiser for further work to be carried out and for eventually the Lancaster to become airworthy one can buy tickets to travel in the Lancaster as it taxis on the airfield - although quite expensive places are booked well in advance - such a trip is something very special indeed !!
