I got a Gerber Daisy potted plant a few years ago and promptly began to neglect it. My mother rescued it and has kept it alive. It's blooming now and has a row of yellow petals in between rows of pink petals. The natural lines that occur in flowers fascinate me. It's so pretty!

Sur le même banc public que moi, à ma gauche, une vieille dame a le regard rivé sur son livre de poche aux pages jaunies.

Petits cris aigus des enfants. On se croirait aux manèges.
Une grand-mère entre dans le parc, poussant une voiturette d’une main, entraînant sa petite-fille de l’autre.
Ma voisine de banc, la vieille dame à la Joie de vivre, vérifie le nombre de pages avant la fin du chapitre, regarde sa montre. Il ne lui reste probablement pas assez de temps pour le terminer. Elle ferme son livre, le range dans son sac à main, enlève ses lunettes. Menton appuyé sur sa main gauche, elle regarde pensivement le parc.
À ma droite, la jeune Asiatique écrit toujours. Elle entame la deuxième moitié de sa feuille pliée en deux.
La vieille dame se lève, traverse le parc, s’en va, me laissant seul sur mon banc. Sa robe qui tombe sous le genou laisse deviner des jambes arquées.
Une gamine, boucles blondes, marche en équilibre précaire sur la barre supérieure d’une clôture. Son père parachute la tient par les mains.
La vieille dame arrête un instant dans les marches de la partie basse du parc, vers la rue La Fayette. Elle glisse quelques mots à une jeune mère et à son fiston maigrichon.
Une autre jeune mère, grands cheveux noirs en broussaille, se dirige vers la sortie en tenant par le guidon la bicyclette rose de sa fille. Côté chevelure, la petite est une copie réduite de sa mère. Allez avance! Ou bien alors, descends!, s’impatiente la maman. La petite pleure à chaudes larmes, la bouche grande ouverte.
Arrivée d’un homme dans la cinquantaine, habit beige, chemise blanche, cheveux gris et gras. Il a en main une circulaire des soldes du supermarché Champion.
La vieille dame disparaît derrière une haie.
L’écriture de ma voisine asiatique avance. Huit lignes déjà sur la deuxième moitié de la feuille quadrillée. Elle porte un caleçon rayé, horizontalement. Elle arrête souvent d’écrire, réfléchit en se grattant quelque partie du corps, une joue, une jambe.
La main pressée contre le pubis, une petite fille a envie de pipi.
L’Asiatique est maintenant rendue à onze lignes. L’espion du Square sait compter.
Très troublé, le visage rouge d’émotion, un garçon d’une douzaine d’années passe. Suivi par cinq ou six jeunes filles de son âge. Elles voudraient l’aider, le sortir de son désarroi, mais ne savent pas trop quoi faire. Sortant du parc, il croise une femme bien enrobée, sa mère peut-être, à qui il raconte confusément sa mésaventure.
Appuyée sur une clôture, la petite fille à l’envie de pipi sautille, empoigne sa jupe et la colle contre son corps.
Ma voisine asiatique cesse d’écrire, range son papier et ses crayons. Le nez collé sur un petit miroir cerclé de rouge, elle scrute son visage. Utilisant ses ongles comme des pinces, elle s’arrache des poils autour des sourcils.
Joyeux anniversaire, chantonne une beurette en survêtement bleu.
L’Asiatique s’enlève des poils en haut de la lèvre supérieure.
Deux hommes, la quarantaine, se joignent à la conversation de la dame et du petit garçon troublé, à la sortie du parc. Le gamin rentre dans le parc, s’assoit sur un banc. Les trois adultes le rejoignent. Leur calme contraste avec son excitation fiévreuse.
Un ballon jaune échappe au jeu de pieds de deux tout petits et fonce sur moi. Prompt à la répartie, je le fais rebondir dans leur direction.
L’Asiatique range son miroir, mais continue de se pincer le dessus de la lèvre, dans une poursuite non-stop de poils réels ou imaginaires.
Il est parti courir après un autre garçon, s’exclame une jeune binoclarde énervée. D’un pas lent, la sandale traîneuse, sa mère corpulente sort du parc.
L’Asiatique se lève, toutes tâches terminées. Elle emprunte le même trajet que la vieille dame il y a une demi-heure, et disparaît elle aussi derrière la haie.
De l’autre côté du parc, la mère aux sandales et aux pas lents monte tranquillement les marches de l’escalier qui mène au niveau de la rue Pierre Semard. La jeune fille à lunettes l’accompagne.
Deux vieilles dames viennent s’assoir à mes côtés. Ne vous dérangez pas, monsieur, me dit l’une d’elles. J’obéis, content de leur apparition alors que le square se vide.
