Fresh snow fall overnight prompted me to get out this morning - I was hoping to catch the cloud break-up before noon, the time had to get home - that didn't happen - of course the day cleared up perfectly for a beautiful afternoon when I pulled into the driveway!
The top drawing had some gestural setup lines most of which i ignored when I got down to ink but I think they helped make it a better drawing.
Artwork created by Midjourney from a sequence of text.
PotatoChop was used to tweak the letters and remove frames and borders.

The prompt is holding space. I took this photo because I like the feel and then I went back to read the prompt and saw that I had written within it *when I choose to hold space for myself, it feels enriching and creative expression flows* - I love the synchronicity!
This morning, I have a to-do list that is quite long and truly not enough hours to do it. So, I let the idea go and I opened the windows to fresh air and sunshine and I saw my drum and I began to play. I rarely "just play" like that - a wonderful treat for my soul. In between drumming, I took photos, then I wrote out some emails that were challenging for me and I kept drumming. That to-do list that felt intimidating was almost completed, with lots of ease and joy. This is what happens in my life when I hold space. I practice presence to unfolding so much of my day is lived in such a way. Thank you for allowing me to share this with you.

The Second Battle of Shanghai erupted in August of 1937 between Chinese and Japanese forces, which prompted the 4th Marine Regiment to take up positions along the Soochow Creek to protect the International Settlement. Although the Marines were mainly observers of the intense fighting raging in the city, they did come under repeated bombardment from wayward Chinese and Japanese ordnance and had a difficult time keeping the fighting from spilling into the Settlement. The 6th Marine Regiment was rushed to Shanghai in mid-September 1937 aboard the U.S.S. Chaumont to reinforce the 4th. The China Marines would patrol the creek for a couple of weeks at a time and then rotate back to their billets. While on the creek, mess trucks with a flatbed would come by with food, then later with containers of hot and soapy water to clean mess kits. Fighting moved away from Shanghai in November 1937, leaving the Japanese in control of the Chinese portion of the city. It was becoming apparent to Westerners living in the city that a future conflict with Japan was only a matter of time.
This reconstruction is of a China Marine during a Saturday Inspection as well as on the Soochow Creek Patrol.
Detailed photographs and descriptions of the equipment are included in the album. Nomenclature from the Uniform Regulations: United States Marine Corps, 1929 was used wherever possible.
