Smoking the Nargile!
I'm a non-smoker, I only smoke the Nargile about once a year. I bought it in Istanbul.
Nothing makes this girl happier than a cupcake. She made them yesterday with her Grammy and big sis. The cupcake jammies were a total coincidence!

I took this shot in the 'Monts Groulx' during a 5 days expedition. It was very cold at night (below -27 celcius) and we were camping in tents (no heating system).
Schifferstadt museum in Frederick, MD. Building is lit by floodlights from the side and front, but I threw a Canon 530 exII CL on the ground pointing at the tree, and a gridded Einstein CL pointing at the left side of the building to light the bench
January 2023 (Week 2): A Main Photographic Goal for the Year
I have started many photo challenges, but never finished a big one. This year I'm hoping to leverage my parental leave to build momentum and get through to the end.
During the challenge, I want to get better at using my primes. I also want to get better at using available light in low-light settings.
Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
I thought this was a tough assignment. I tried different lamps, lamps and feet, lamps, feet and paths... nothing seemed right. Maybe I was trying to be too literal. Maybe I should have picked another psalm. Then I saw this lamp with the moon last night. Keeping it simple...
I find eyes fascinating, and I have wanted to take a picture up close for a while now. This gave me the perfect excuse. This is my daughter's beautiful blue eye (I'm a little jealous...) with the reflection of our backyard from the sliding glass door.
This was a hard week for me. I couldn't come up with any ideas. Luckily, my daughter helped me out. She LOVES to play in the laundry. She almost completely buries herself, and the funny little thing insists on having something on her head. She cracks me up! So, I ended up with a little one almost completely hidden in the laundry.
At the beginning of the year I started Project 52. Take one photo, per week, of something I'd been doing during that week. I started off with some ideas and inspiration, but as time has wore on I ran out of both. Life hasn't been especially kind to me over recent months, so finding the time, effort and inspiration has been lacking.
I am continuing with Flickr, but only for my usual spontaneous shots. Now that I don't have the pressure of 'needing' to take a photo there's a good chance that I'll want to :-)
The problem with 52 week and 366-day projects is that sometimes you don't really feel like doing them. And sometimes you REALLY don't feel like doing them. As I lay in bed with my sinuses exploding with my annual January cold and bubonic plague, I remembered today is the deadline to submit a photo on "rule of thirds." My third vitamin C. My third decongestant, And my third tissue in 30 seconds. I hate Canadian winters.

Our breeder found herself with 17 puppies, after 3 moms birthed. Daughter and I took a trip out to see them all. This is one of the little females from the oldest litter - at 4 weeks.
Inside of a juicy lime from the lime tree that sits in my office during the cold winter. This lime was left hanging on since summer....and it met it's demise when I chose it as my photo subject!
MCP Project 52 week 20.
Spring in Texas means weather that in most of the country would be considered summer. So, today, I packed up the kids and drove the 50 miles down Interstate 45 to the beach at Galveston.
We bought kites, played in the sand and fed the seagulls. Overall a (nearly) perfect day...
[Setup] Putting 2 and 2 together, I recently acquired some sour candy that came in an interesting container looking like a "toxic waste" barrel and also "Smart Mass" by ThinkGeek. The putty like material slowly melts, so naturally I wanted to setup just a fun quick shot to make it look like oil tar melting over the barrel.
Foto-Buddies Project 52, Week#11: Elements of Design-Color
"I shall call him 'Squishy,' and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy." --Dory, Finding Nemo
When Mr. Sparks and I went to Underwater World Singapore, I took pictures of the jelly fishes knowing I could use it for the Foto-Buddies' assignment on color. But I was actually going for the ultra pink jelly fish, as a contrast to the ultra blue waters (cause I read in a tutorial that that's how you use color to create a picture that has impact). But upon review on my computer monitor, I ended up liking this blue mono shot better than my shots with contrasting colors.
