Another photo from Project 52, which I'm doing with my friend Tiago Ribeiro

Wasn't quite what I was planning for this week, but cycling over to Hamble today in the rain, I took my camera on the off chance I could get a converging photo opportunity.

I waited on this very dangerous country road bridge in Netley in the rain to capture several trains passing by...Although it took 25 minutes to get one going either way..

Because the sky was white I added a nice sky in photoshop considering I was merging 10 other photos anyhow...

This new friend is in my garden right now.

The essence of home for me. Meet my kitties, Irving & Rooney, you'll be seeing them a lot.

Not being a tea drinker I chose something a bit different today. This is more to my liking, more my cup of tea if you will.

A photo taken as background for my husband's project (Marangoni effect). Making wine cry was not difficult, but capturing that in a photo was not easy. With flash, it was difficult to see where the tears are seen. Ambient light helped here, but that did not result in a good shot, as the tears were moveing fast and they needed to be sharp.

This was taken with Canon 500D on tripod, ISO 100, 1/200 s, f/11, with the 60 mm EF-S macro lens. A flash was bare in an umbrella at the back. The metallic parts of the umbrella disturbed, and a children's platic writing matt (kirjoitusalusta) was used for further diffusion. Various adjustments in Photoshop, such as expanding the area on the left and boosting the contrast.

I've really been enjoying using the rain jacket I got for my camera. It allows me to get out in all kinds of weather and not worry about damage to my gear. Colours seem so much livelier and brighter in the rain - I'm enjoying catching that. You have to rely on auto-focus given the poor visuals from fog inside the plastic sometimes, but I'm finding it's not too bad. Given the amount of rain we get in my part of the world, it's turning out to be a very handy tool in my kit!

43:52 Get wet. Take a photograph in the rain using the elements of the situation to your visual advantage.

There's something to be said,

About being

Unmoored and adrift on a placid lake,

Lost in thoughts,

Seeing beauty in the mundane.

Still life with off camera flash

These are not the kind of shiny, polished, pretty rings you would see in jewelry stores. These are rings with 11+ years of wear and history. These rings have been to 11 countries... took stupid decisions to jump in the waves of Mediterranean sea after a storm, and got thrown on the rocks... have been on picnics... slouched on the couch entire weekends for Netflix marathons... have watched sunsets over seas, oceans and mountains... have been to hospitals to fix broken necks after bicycle accidents... have owned a cat, together with all the fun, scratches and craziness... have left their home, family, cat and everything they acquired together for 9 years, and lived for half a year out of two suitcases... made a new home somewhere else, where they didn't know anyone, scared of the future, alone, but together. These are not the kind of shiny, polished, pretty rings you would see in jewelry stores. These are better.

Imperfection and death are part of nature’s cycle. Flowers teach us to appreciate them for the beauty they have to offer during their short life span. As they evolve from a seed to fully opening their colorful petals, they’ve been committed to growth not perfection.

I photographed flowers because they inspire me to live in the present and notice the beauty around me. They also make me realize my own limitations and weaknesses. Life is frail. Life is imperfect. But it sure can be transformative. Like a flower, I choose growth.

After a request for a self protrait from several publications I decided to give them something a slight bit obnioxious. No not this shot as that might be over the top but I did use the same hair. My blog will be down until about midnight so after that you can go over to michaelherbphoto.com/week-10-project52/ and check out the rest of the story.
