Since you are interested in the goals, values and principles of our school, we
have developed this mission statement to summarize them.
We offer a modern and forward-looking education
Our educational function cannot be confined to the sole transmission of factual
knowledge. Facing the full scope of today’s labour market, we provide our
students with firm fundamental values and the necessary key qualifications. We
develop forward-looking and practical educational programmes, involving the
employing firms. The students receive training appropriate to the requirements
of both business and administration. The students are offered the possibility to
earn additional qualifications both within the school and involving exterior
certificates. They are thus able to succeed on the job market.
We take responsibility
By involving parents and employers, we support a policy of cosmopolitanism
and active partnership. Our work is built on a fundament of clear pedagogic and
professional principles, while also taking into account the economic framework.
We are leading the way to develop new focal points of education to guarantee
competitiveness.
We are a team
Our abilities and experience, as well as our commitment and social skills are the
essential parameters of a successful implementation of our educational function.
We meet its challenges with decisiveness and willingness to cooperate. We
maintain a strong customer focus and professional competence. To guarantee
these standards, we follow a sustainable personnel development system,
involving both recruiting and training.
We support our students as they realise their goals
Our students are met with appreciation; they are at the centre of our attention
and form the focus of our work. We offer a network of expertise,
multidisciplinary information and contacts. We also provide psychological and
emotional support. It is our conviction, that the motivation, competence and
innovative spirit of our students are essential characteristics of a good school.
By guaranteeing a motivating environment for learning and teaching, we provide
a stable base for our students’ personal growth. Mobility and exchange
programmes as well as cooperation with the economy encourage
entrepreneurship and acquiring key qualifications.

Salomon de Caus (1576–1626) was a hydraulic engineer and architect under King Louis XIII. He was renowned not only for his garden designs with magnificent waterworks, but also for his many publications on topics relating to the arts and sciences. In this influential work, de Caus sets out the principles of hydraulics on which the automata or trick fountains and water jokes in the seventeenth-century garden were based.

One of the most unique features of any Civil War battlefield is Antietam’s Dunker Church. Along with the Burnside Bridge, the church is one of the park’s most identifiable landmarks. Located just across the street from the visitor center, folks certainly see the building, but most don’t realize that it has a very rich history all its own. German Baptist Brethren (known by the nickname “Dunkers” in reference to their practice of full immersion baptism) began arriving in central Maryland as early as the mid 1700s, and by the early 1850s enough had settled in the Sharpsburg area to support their own meetinghouse. Built along the Hagerstown Pike on land donated by Samuel Mumma, the church was ready for service in 1853. For nearly a decade, Dunkers along the serene Antietam creek led quiet, productive lives, but all of that was about to change.
A textbook case of wrong place at the wrong time, the Dunker Church was located on a ridgeline that the outnumbered Confederates used to establish a prime defensive position, which in turn made the building a reference point for waves of Union attacks. A whirlwind of savage violence swirled all around it throughout the morning of September 17, 1862. This house of worship, dedicated to the principles of peace and goodwill, would ironically end up being in the middle of the worst part of the worst battle the country has ever seen.

The seven principles Eugene Meyer set out for the Post when he bought it in 1933 once adorned the old lobby at 1150 15th Street. Today, they're reproduced in metal type on a wall in the new newsroom:
The first mission of a newspaper is to tell the truth as nearly as the truth may be ascertained.
The Newspaper shall tell ALL the truth so far as it can learn it, concerning the important affairs of America and the world.
As a disseminator of the news, the paper shall observe the decencies that are obligatory upon a private gentleman.
What it prints shall be fit reading for the young as well as for the old.
The newspaper's duty is to its readers and to the public at large, and not to the private interests of its owners.
In the pursuit of truth, the newspaper shall be prepared to make sacrifices of its material fortunes, if such course be necessary for the public good.
The newspaper shall not be the ally of any special interest, but shall be fair and free and wholesome in its outlook on public affairs and public men.
