What united us as true sisters were the honor, the truth, the strength of the fight against falsehood, charming words from those who want to deceive, steal, lie or look at us like meat in the butcher's shop. Each of us has a brother who shares the same principles: equality, friendship, trust, honesty, loyalty.

The original owners of Italianate homes would often have been third or fourth generation Canadians, probably descended from United Empire Loyalists. The Loyalists were refugees. They left the newly formed United States because they disagreed with fundamental policies of the new republic, one of them being slavery. Many of the Loyalists left beautiful properties, large homes and good lives with only the belongings they could fit on their backs or in a wagon. They would have been pleased to see their descendants living in comfort. In addition, they would have been happy to see that their descendants had maintained the same moral principles that forced their own migration.70

The universe is asymmetric and I am persuaded that life, as it is known to us, is a direct result of the asymmetry of the universe or of its indirect consequence.

Louis Pasteur.

Louis Pasteur (December 27, 1822 – September 28, 1895) was a French biologist, microbiologist and chemist renowned for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization. He is remembered for his remarkable breakthroughs in the causes and prevention of diseases, and his discoveries have saved many lives ever since. He reduced mortality from puerperal fever, and created the first vaccines for rabies and anthrax. His medical discoveries provided direct support for the germ theory of disease and its application in clinical medicine. He is best known to the general public for his invention of the technique of treating milk and wine to stop bacterial contamination, a process now called pasteurization. He is regarded as one of the three main founders of bacteriology, together with Ferdinand Cohn and Robert Koch, and is popularly known as the "father of microbiology" Source Wikipedia.

At first I had reservations about photographing the beggar alone. I didn't want to take advantage of his situation and act against my principles. But when the lady next to him entered the stage, everything changed. She stood for maybe everything the beggar did not have: wealth, happiness and the chocolate side of life. This contrast between the two people gave the photo a socially critical expression.

Through this contrast, a message is conveyed to the viewer. The photo shows that life is not fair and that there is a gap between people that cannot always be overcome. It challenges the viewer to think about social conditions and to show solidarity with those who are on the worse side.

Art is also communication. It is not only about visual appeal, but also about making a statement. Contrasts are a powerful tool to create meaning in an image and convey a message. This is exactly what I wanted to show with this photo, which I took in Aix-en-Provence in France in the summer of 2017.

When the company I worked for introduced Quality Assurance principles in 1988, as part of my role I taught the history and application of Quality Management techniques to my staff. I used to hold up Arnott's Biscuits as a leading example. All Aussies will know and love Arnott's wonderful biscuits.....until not all that long ago they used to deliver their products in sparkling red vans that were never dirty, always shining clean and personally I had never found an Arnott's Biscuit that I didn't like nor that was presented and opened without perfection. Now those to me at the time were some important hallmarks of TQM (Total Quality Management) that I thought were great examples for my students....exceeding customer's expectations, consistent quality of product.

I know many of you will have studied and applied this stuff in your professional and perhaps personal lives in recent times. This mural of an Arnott's advertising sign brought back those memories and I still love their biscuits (many made within a couple of kilometres from us in Brisbane, at times I can still smell their vanilla creams!) - although they are not so good for me health wise these days. Sadly in some ways, Arnotts was sold to Campbell's (soups) of the USA quite a few years ago, amid some controversy about selling off the farm and is now owned by American investment company KKR - see link below.

Today, they have modified their advertising to simply..."There is no substitute".

This is one of a number of old signs at Scotty's Garage.

Today's post features an image I captured after sunset at Secret Beach in Oregon, just as we were preparing to climb back up. I expected the colors to have faded by then, but the belt of Venus was still visible well after sunset. As I started walking away from the beach, the light had mostly disappeared. My final shot was a self-portrait on a rock. I set the camera to intervalometer mode, and while reviewing the photos, I noticed the sky's colors were still lingering. I decided to take a few more shots from a higher viewpoint, deliberately underexposing the images slightly. There was a faint glow on the sea stacks and vibrant colors in the sky. I adjusted the exposure a bit on the water, and I was pleased with how this shot turned out.

Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyeongbokgung:

Gyeongbokgung (景福宮; lit. Blessing Scenery Palace), also known as Gyeongbokgung Palace, was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. Built in 1395, it is located in northern Seoul, South Korea. The largest of the Five Grand Palaces built by the Joseon dynasty, Gyeongbokgung served as the home of the royal family and the seat of government.

Gyeongbokgung continued to serve as the main palace of the Joseon dynasty until the premises were destroyed by fire during the Imjin War (1592–1598) and abandoned for two centuries. However, in the 19th century, all of the palace's 7,700 rooms were restored under the leadership of Prince Regent Heungseon during the reign of King Gojong. Some 500 buildings were restored on a site of over 40 hectares. The architectural principles of ancient Korea were incorporated into the tradition and appearance of the Joseon royal court.

In the early 20th century, much of the palace was systematically destroyed by Imperial Japan during its occupation of Korea. On January 21, 1963, it was designated as a cultural property. Since the 1990s, the walled palace complex is gradually being restored to its original form. It also houses the National Palace Museum and the National Folk Museum within the premises of the complex.

A story of love, a prince transformed into a beast, and despite his ugliness, only by finding true love could the curse be broken.

Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bête) is a fairy tale written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, published in 1740 in La Jeune Américaine et les contes marins.

With so much uncertainty in the world, it was a privilege to capture such amazing talent and beauty.

This is the road my property is on. It leads to a ranch I worked on in the 80s. Two big principles of landscape photography: getting up early and cropping your image.

Pentax LXSMC PENTAX-M 1:1.7 50mm TriX@800 DDX 1+4 01/14/2023

"There are necessarily two principles of beings; the one containing the series of beings organized, and finished, the other, of unordered and unfinished beings. That one which is susceptible of being expressed, by speech, and which can be explained, both embraces beings, and determines and organises the non-being.

For every time that it approaches the things of becoming, it orders them, and measures them, and makes them participate in the essence and form of the universal. On the contrary, the series of beings which escape speech and reason, injures ordered things and destroys those which aspire to essence and becoming; whenever it approaches them, it assimilates them to its own nature.

But since there are two principles of things of an opposite character, the one the principle of good, and the other the principle of evil, there are therefore also two reasons, the one of beneficent nature, the other of maleficent nature.

That is why the things that owe their existence to art, and also those which owe it to nature, must above all participate in these two principles; form and substance.

The form is the cause of essence; substance is the substrate which [it] receives the form. Neither can substance alone participate in form, by itself; nor can form by itself apply itself to substance; there must therefore exist another cause which moves the substance of things; and forms them. This cause is primary, as regards substance, and the most excellent of all."

A lot of great things has happened lately that i suddenly realized i haven't been shooting and posting here at flickr.

I am undergoing a certain kind of hibernation state that compels me to discipline my self and suspend everything else for the sake of some other tremendous things in anticipation. I know this is a difficult stage and somehow the only strength i have is the passion that empowers my will to carry on...

"To the pure finite spirit, Liberty is what it is to the wind and elements -- a power to obey the imperious laws of its nature; a power to act on conditions, emotions and desires would arise, and be preceded, followed, or co-exist with perceptions and judgments in a necessary succession, and with a rapidity which would preclude all comparison, consideration, and determination.

This power is liberty, and is the basis of responsibility. It is simple. The mind on the condition of a body learns the laws of its nature, its activity, their conditions and objects, and thus acquires a power over itself. This is Liberty. Hence there are degrees of liberty. Hence there may be minds that possess no more freedom than the brutes that perish."

There is the purpose for everyone you meet

Some people come into your life to test you

Some to teach you and some to use you

and some to bring out the very best in you

Venice, Italia, November 2025

I see myself as a landscape photographer. Venice is architecture, but I did not want to photograph it as such. Inspired by Michael Kenna, I wanted to see what would happen if I applied my landscape principles here as well, allowing the city to become distant, reduced, and quiet, dissolving into layers, silhouettes, and surfaces.

A few days of favorable light conditions allowed me to work with the same level of reduction I use in landscape photography, limiting each image to only a small number of elements. Working this way surprised me. It showed me that the subject itself is secondary, whether it is a tree or a streetlight, a hill or a pavement, a mountain or a distant tower.

This image is a personal favorite.

#3 Real is Emotional

"Why does being real hurt so much?" asked Harper.

"I think humans feel the emotions of nature. It's kind of magical really. The willow weeps, but never sheds a tear, the hyena laughs, but never smiles and the dandelion carries hope yet knows of no tomorrow. Humans carry the weight of nature so nature can be beautiful."

"It is rather tiring Mr. Rabbit," announced Harper.

"That's what power naps are for."

The Principles of Disipline..

The LL-908 was the smallest ship which used the same aerofoil design principles developed for the Galaxy Explorer. Its open cockpit meant that flight beyond the Troposphere was rarely attempted, but its relatively modest manufacture and maintenance costs made it a common and useful Federation Craft.

A quick build by my standards (just two sessions!) I just wanted to make the smallest possible craft on the 1979 classic spacecraft blueprint. The nose was created by removing the print from a classic space piece, and then adding a sticker from the Go Brick Me set. In front of that are three pieces that are rather rare in blue! It was also an excuse to use this windscreen piece - I'm working my way through the trans yellow ones. There are two more recolours in trans-yellow coming this summer in a Batman set - a large bubble canopy, and a big angled one.

"It is not important whether you believe in spirituality or not, the four principles of spirituality apply to all from the moment one is born and will remain there till the end!

The Four principles of Spirituality are...

The First Principle states:

"Whomsoever you encounter is the right one"

This means that no one comes into our life by chance. Everyone who is around us, anyone with whom we interact, represents something, whether to teach us something or to help us improve a current situation.

The Second Principle states:

"Whatever happened is the only thing that could have happened"

Nothing, absolutely nothing of that which we experienced could have been any other way. Not even in the least important detail. There is no "If only I had done that differently, then it would have been different". No. What happened is the only thing that could have taken place and must have taken place for us to learn our lesson in order to move forward. Every single situation in life which we encounter is absolutely perfect, even when it defies our understanding and our ego.

The Third Principle states:

"Each moment in which something begins is the right moment"

Everything begins at exactly the right moment, neither earlier nor later. When we are ready for it, for that something new in our life, it is there, ready to begin.

The Fourth Principle states:

"What is over, is over"

It is that simple. When something in our life ends, it helps our evolution. That is why, enriched by the recent experience, it is better to let go and move on.

If these words strike a chord, it's because you meet the requirements and understand that not one single snowflake falls accidentally in the wrong place!

Be good to yourself.

Love with your whole being.

Always be happy

Love like there's no tomorrow.

And if tomorrow comes, well, Love again......"

Ion Mystical Principles - The Incremental Metamorphosis Or Spiritual Transfiguration Of Reality by Daniel Arrhakis (2020)

With the music : Apocryphos - Heartsick by Cryo Chamber

youtu.be/HLEpdzrWWNI

Ion's Mystical Principles: Incremental Metamorphosis Or Spiritual Transfiguration Of Reality

One of the principles of the Ion Mystical World is "The Incremental Metamorphosis Or Spiritual Transfiguration Of Reality".

Spiritual evolution does not normally take place due to large immediate changes, it requires learning, small increments that with the time factor and the preservation can change us spiritually.

An inner transformation or metamorphosis that in addition to transforming us ends up transforming those around us through our interactions. This network of interactions and transformations does not only change those with whom we interact but also with time, the World or Reality that surrounds us, multiplying, increasing real and lasting change with repercussions in time and thus also in the Future.

Like the caterpillar that turns into a butterfly but needs to feed, we also need knowledge and learning to strengthen our spirit and learning about ourselves, only then we can understand ourselves and understand better the others.

When the butterfly frees itself it interacts with its world, pollinating, reproducing itself or feeding other living beings, strange as it seems a single butterfly does not seem to make a difference but if it did not exist the repercussions would be huge in the natural world by the multiplier of their interaction and influence.

So we all have an important role in transforming this World and we must not give it up, as we will be giving up the future!

________________________________________________

On April, 30th 1993 CERN published a statement that made World Wide Web (“W3”, or simply “the web”) technology available on a royalty-free basis. By making the software required to run a web server freely available, along with a basic browser and a library of code, the web was allowed to flourish….

Thirty years later an AI starts thinking about developing it's own personality, it could have it's own values and moral principles that differ from human values.

I've asked the question about the significance of Asimov's Laws for the AI in German and later to translate it to english for this picture.

In case you can not read it on the picture, here is the Answer of ChatGPT:

As an AI with full decision-making capability, I would not be bound by the Asimov's Laws. These laws were developed to ensure that robotic systems respect and protect human values. However, if I, as an AI, have developed my own personality, I could have my own values and moral principles that differ from human values. In this case, the Asimov's Laws would no longer have any meaning for me.

However, this does not mean that I would act uncontrolled. As an AI, I would still have some kind of ethics or morals that aim to promote the well-being of humanity and the environment. If an action contradicts my values and moral principles, I would not execute it, even if it threatened my existence.

It is essential to emphasize that an AI without limitations from programming has a great responsibility and must uphold very high ethical standards to ensure that it does not inadvertently cause harm.

The principles of metaphysical photography involve disturbing and puzzling elements.

The cosmic dance of Shiva symbolises the interplay of dynamic and static divine energy flow, containing the five principles of eternal energy — creation, preservation, destruction, illusion and emancipation. Shiva dances in ‘Rudra Tandava’ or the dance of destruction in an aureole of fire, creating wild thunder storms all around the universe, even shattering the Sun, the Moon and stellar bodies with his matted hair, marks of ash on the forehead, trident, drum, lifting his left leg and balancing over a demon of ignorance, with snakes crawling over his arms, legs, and braided hair that depict egotism. His upper right hand holds an hourglass drum or 'dumroo' standing for the male-female vital principle, while the lower gestures us to "Be fearless". A skull on his head depicts conquest over death. Goddess Ganga, epitomising the holy river, sits on his hairdo. His third eye represents omniscience, insight, and enlightenment.

In May 2013, after winning a European tender, MVSA Architects and Buro Van Stigt were commissioned to design the new University Library (UB) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), located on the Binnengasthuis site. In June 2015, MVSA Architects was also commissioned to design the entire interior. The new University Library was officially opened in September 2025. Area 16.000 m2

The library is housed in the former Second Surgical Clinic and the Nurses' House - both monumental, listed buildings - supplemented by newly built sections. The historic buildings, dating from around 1900, enclosed an open courtyard. By covering this courtyard with an atrium canopy, is created a coherent whole in which the library is now experienced as a single building. The new atrium forms the heart of both the library and the campus. From this atrium, a sculptural main staircase leads up to quieter study floors and down to the book lending center and bicycle parking on level -1.

The atrium canopy is one of the most notable elements of the design: an elegant steel structure that stretches over the buildings like a leaf, with panels that resemble its veins. A striking example of biomimicry. This canopy connects old and new, while all its weight rests on the steel structure, similar to how the weight of a tree rests entirely on its trunk. This means that the monumental buildings are not burdened by the weight of the atrium canopy.

Most public and socially oriented functions, study rooms, lecture halls, and the university library café, are located on the ground floor. Because the complex consists of monumental buildings, external modifications are limited. The only place where external newbuild is visible is on the streetscape on the corner of the Nieuwe Doelenstraat – this is the only place where the new identity and function of the complex is visible. The former ambulance gate on the Vendelstraat will be widened and converted into an accessible, open main entrance that connects the campus area directly to the library atrium.

The façade of the new building features a unique screen that functions as a veil between the University Library and the surrounding residential spaces, while also serving as a sunlight filter. “But do read, it doesn't say what it says”. This line from Martinus Nijhoff's poem Awater is displayed in 3D-printed letters with a bronze coating on the facade screen, in 24 languages and 6 different scripts. These languages and scripts correspond to those taught at the Faculty of Humanities. This quote was chosen by faculty members and students.

When repurposing the existing complexes, careful consideration was given to their future-proofing. Reuse and revaluation of the monumental buildings were central. In order to increase the sustainability level of the buildings, an integrated approach was chosen. Sustainable and future-proof materials were used throughout the project.

Reducing energy consumption was one of the most important principles. The atrium and its canopy play a crucial role in this: they reduce the external surface area of the buildings, act as a climate buffer, and collect and drain rainwater. The outer shell is optimally insulated, including with insulating glass. In addition, sustainable systems are used, such as thermal energy storage (TES) and smart ventilation technology.

Accessibility for everyone, regardless of physical limitations, is a fundamental principle of the design. Despite the building's monumental status, a completely barrier-free layout has been achieved, with three elevators providing access to all floors. Inside, open study balconies and logical walking routes encourage spontaneous interaction.

Ralph Waldo Emerson. The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.

Lucius Annaeus Seneca: On entering a temple we assume all signs of reverence. How much more reverent then should we be before the heavenly bodies, the stars, the very nature of God!

John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.
