We had a little scare at the pool yesterday. We're still teaching our kids how to swim. Normally I'll take one and Jane will take the other, but Jane couldn't find her swimsuit, so it was just me with both girls. They both had the inflatable donuts. But I had them take them off so that I could teach them to swim without them.
First I took Sydney and had her try to doggy paddle. She did good, considering this is the first time I had her try. Then I told her to sit on the steps and stay there while I took Jessie. So I was bringing Jessie out to the deeper area when I heard Jane yell out, "PETE!" When I turned around, Sydney was submerged under the water kicking and thrashing about. She was trying to follow us out there. I quickly got to her and picked her up. She had this scared look on her face. Stupid stupid me. I should have put her donut back on. Good thing Jane was there. That's what they mean by the sign they have posted at the pool that reads, "Children drown without sound. Watch your children carefully."
Later that night I asked Sydney, "So you think you're a big girl now and that you can swim?" She smiled and replied, "Uh huh". I gotta keep my eye on this one. :)
Me and my cousin, Helen. Looking like a vintage postcard, this shot was taken along the middle left side of the pool just beyond the diving area. The bath houses are in the background.
The pool was large and divided into two large sections, shallow (moderately), and deep for diving. The pools were next to a sunken garden which was next to a section of the amusement park. Hershey Park was the Disneyland of its day.

By this period the beach area also had more landscaping. And life was so uncrowded......

Participants in the Summer Reading Program in Grades 5th-7th who met their reading goal got to attend a private pool party with up to three of their friends.

Greens Pool is the central feature of the protected inlet at William Bay that adjoins the Southern Ocean near Denmark on the south coast of Western Australia.
So I looked up "vernal pool" and learned that it is a seasonal pond or other body of water that remains relatively dry the rest of the year. Such a feature reminds me of the Muckshaw Ponds Preserve in Fredon Township of Sussex County, NJ.
