Rotterdam in sepia
The Erasmusbrug
I thought it could be a good moment to upload some sepia images once in a while.
Sepia, nowadays , speaking in quantity, is the little, and a bit old fashioned, brother of black and white. But I think the tones, just because they are softer, are more beautiful.
Sepia has some great other advantages as well. One can really make a good poto, no matter what kind of weather. The contrasts are a bit lower then in black and white, so there are not much blown out highlights. Even in dull weather conditions, one can make a picture, not good enough for a superb photo, but enough for sharing with family and friends.
Ok, here's the Erasmusbrug, the absolute most photographed site of Rotterdam. Weather conditions were good, dark skies in the distance with the light behind me and on top of the high buildings.
Rain was arriving in about 15 minutes. The camera, an oldie, that I always carry with me, is the Nikon Coolpix S6200, a simple but effective pocketcamera from the medieval age.
Lancelot had one while photographing Guinevere, did you know?
The processing in the city, when photographing modern architecture, will from now on be as smooth as possbible. Not because I must, but because I can.
Enjoy and have a nice week ahead.

Thanks for all your faves, comments and invites. They are much appreciated!!
On our way home from my in-laws, we stopped to check out a waterfall. The light was gone, the sky was socked in with clouds, but I decided to try a photo anyway. I got some good ideas for compositions, so I'm looking forward to returning with better conditions now.

Yesterday was a gray and dreary day. Light was flat, temps were starting to drop low, and I debated going out for a while. I finally decided to give it a go. While conditions certainly didn't help, I did find a few new compositions to return to on better days. This is one such possibility.

Do you ever wonder
Why you do the things you do?
Spend your days wishing
For your dreams to come true?
Throw it away
If it isn't Shiny and new.
Then find you are the darkness
That the stars shine through?
We all need some of that...

On June 24th 2025 the first electric train, a 2240 class railcar, reached Vila Real de Santo António (run test only).

7DWF, Fridays: Flora
Happy Fence Friday!
Just some fresh, opening spring bud peek-a-booing through a fence. Testing the close-up / macro abilities of the little "always-in-my-pocket" Lumix LX100. Macro with this camera "happens" at the wide end of the lens, so there will be some typical wide angle distortions, but it still works rather well with quite pleasing results.
Happy Flora, HFF (the 13th!), and a wonderful weekend to you, dear Flickr friends!
Peter Mackey www.flickr.com/photos/silverback40/ suggested a shallower crop for this one after seeing my earlier OoC post and I have to say he was right. Thanks, Peter for your encouraging and constructive criticism.
These were all taken this morning in a historic part of town.
Have a great weekend.

Dived into my archived images from 2013 when on holiday with a group of uni mates. Back before I had taken up photography again and was using a compact digital camera. This arch is no longer here due to the collapse in March 2017.
A snap of a local New Forest Foal I took on a pocket camera several years ago, it's one of my favourites. On a serious note, I saw this message on a local FB page.
“To our lovely visitors…
Please do not feed or say hello to the horses or donkeys.
Feeding them causes aggravation amongst the herd and only the matriarch mare will be fed and then not lead the heard to food.
Also they can be very aggressive over food and being petted.
Thank you and enjoy just admiring our wonderful wildlife.”

I darkened the sky as it was washed out so it seems almost too saturated.
However I'm leaving it because it makes me smile.
This photo was taken from a campground full of childhood memories. It's one of those cool places that transcends time. It's not only a place of fond early memories for my brother and I, but also for my dad and his siblings. Visiting this summer with him and my Aunt brought back a lot of pleasant memories of my grandparents and time spent camping here.
It also made for a beautiful few photos, as well. As always, the Rocky Mountains provide beauty in abundance.

This is no accurate now as this original part of town was pulled down in the early 1960/1970’s to build a duel carriageway through the town to add the growing number of motor vehicles. This alleyway off Fore Street would have continued to All Saints Church and the posh part of town. First time in this alleyway for me but an interesting number of 19th century original houses.
