One more shot of our unexpected migration guest this spring who kept us smiling for the duration of its visit....... The first day of its stay, every time another bird would enter its "space," the sparrow's boldly striped crest would pop up and along and with the "evil eye stare," cause the approacher to quickly retreat! I think the regular backyard birds were as surprised by its presence as we were. They eventually reached a truce and somewhat tolerated sharing the backyard for the rest of its short stay.
Macro Madness. This is now getting close to obsession, but I'm not complaining.

The Morgan Plus 4 Super Sports model was introduced late in 1961, offering arguably the best price-for-performance value available at that time. Its lightweight aluminum body provided crisp handling in a design reminiscent of the great fully fendered sports cars of the 1930s.
Between 1961 and 1968 only 104 Triumph TR4A-engined aluminum-bodied Super Sports were produced. Of the 95 two-seat cars built for sports car competition in the United States and abroad, 50 carried the low-bodied roadster coachwork of this example.
The example shown here-“Baby Doll V”-is famous in Morgan circles. It was ordered from the factory in the spring of 1962 by Lew Spencer, a well-known southern California SCCA member and local Morgan dealer. This car was to be his ultimate Morgan race car; a sleek low-body successor to Baby Doll IV, the car with which he won the 1962 SCCA C-production National Championship.
Fortunately for his racing competitors, by the time Baby Doll V arrived, Spencer had sold the Morgan dealership to go to work for Carroll Shelby. After that Spencer could only campaign Baby Doll V on occasional outings in nearby SCCA National events. He was successful in the few events he was able to attend.
The amazing Morgan Baby Dolls are accomplished “giant killers” in historic circles, where they have regularly beaten small-block Corvettes, Porsches, Abarths, and Jaguar E-types, despite their smaller displacement engines.

Lens is the chunky Minolta MC Rokkor QE 100mm f3.5 Macro. In fairness I should be comparing this lens to my Pentax-M 100mm f4 macro, rather than the Rikenon. Both the Rokkor and the Pentax will focus down to half life-size.
The Pentax 'M' design philosophy was to produce lenses that were elegant, light, and compact. Almost all had a 49mm filter thread. The focus ring on the Pentax is buttery smooth and superbly dampened.
In contrast the Rokkor is like a brick (592g vs just 378g) and utilitarian in design. Yes, the lens is a smidgin faster (f3.5 vs f4), though not enough to justify the weight difference. Filter thread is 55mm. The focus ring moves in a way that suggests the lens has seen plenty of use.
While the two lenses handle quite differently, I do like the solid feel of the early Rokkor lenses.
The results so far look very nice.
As a comparison, I had photographed this same clump of daises just over a year ago - with the Rikenon.

Pendolino Plus test run from Ilmala depot to Lahti. Finnish Railways (VR) will introduce new Pendolino Plus service on Helsinki-Turku route starting from 3.11.2025. These are class Sm6 Pendolino high-speed trains that used to run between Helsinki and St. Petersburg until 2022.

Les Masaï ou Maasaï, les plus connus car les plus accessibles des tribus du Kenya et vivant à proximité des parcs animaliers fréquentés par les touristes, constituent une population d’éleveurs et de guerriers semi-nomades d'Afrique de l'Est, répartie principalement dans le centre et le sud-ouest du Kenya et au nord de la Tanzanie.
Ils ont résisté aux incitations des gouvernements kényan et tanzanien visant à leur faire adopter un mode de vie plus sédentaire et à adopter l’agriculture.
La vie traditionnelle des Maasaï s’organise autour du bétail, qui constitue leur principale source de nourriture mais, même si la viande et le sang sont des constituants traditionnels du régime maasaï, ce ne sont pas des aliments de base. Les Maasaïs consomment d'importantes quantités de plantes dont ils connaissent les vertus médicinales.
De langue nilotique, ils sont apparentés à l'ethnie Turkana qui vit plus au nord, près du lac du même nom et dont je parlerai prochainement.
Le phare au sommet de l’Île aux Perroquets, Archipel-de-Mingan, Côte-Nord, Québec, Canada.

Située à l’extrémité ouest de l’Archipel-de-Mingan, l’Île aux Perroquets est un joyau parmi le chapelet d’îles de l’archipel de Mingan. Composée de pierre calcaire, cette île mythique, surmontée d’un phare, baigne dans la partie la plus étroite et la plus turbulente du détroit de Jacques-Cartier, entre la Côte-Nord et l’île d’Anticosti. Ce secteur difficile à la navigation explique la présence du phare entré en fonction dès 1888.
Longue de 350 mètres et large de moins de 100 mètres, cet îlot forme un plateau rocheux dont le sommet s’élève à 12 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer. Ses falaises abruptes présentent un escarpement favorable à la nidification des Macareux moines. Surnommés perroquets des mers, ces oiseaux ont effectivement donné son nom à l'Île aux Perroquets. Cet escarpement s’abaisse légèrement au sud et s’enfonce dans la mer à l’est. C’est là, côté est, le seul endroit pour y accoster.
La réserve de parc national de l'Archipel-de-Mingan est l'un des quatre parcs nationaux du Canada située dans la MRC de Minganie au Québec. Elle protège 150 km2 d'un chapelet d'îles calcaires situées sur la Côte-Nord du golfe du Saint-Laurent au large de Havre-Saint-Pierre face à l'île d'Anticosti. On y retrouve des structures géologiques exceptionnelles (les monolithes) ainsi qu'une végétation de type boréal. Les eaux entourant les îles sont riches en oiseaux et en vie marine. Le symbole du parc est d'ailleurs le macareux moine qui niche sur certaines îles de l'archipel.
How can this be 33 years old?! Certainly done well to survive this long, looks like it was getting used very sparingly until 2017/18, then it was off-road until 2020 since when the mileage has been going up more rapidly - it did nearly 11,000 miles between tests in January 2022 and 2023.
