Les visiteurs n'en finissent plus d'arriver dans ma cour ! Le 19 avril 2019 cet ourson d'à peine une quinzaine de livres tout au plus est venu inspecter les lieux. C'est l'odeur des résidus de graine de tournesol les qui l'a probablement mené chez moi... Pas de maman ? Nous avons avisé les agents de la conservation et retirer nos mangeoires temporairement au cas ou où maman arriverait... Ça fait plus d'un mois qu'il a été signalé par mes voisins au sud de moi et sans sa maman, après leur avoir parler il y a 5 jours, il ne l'avait pas revue depuis 2 semaines et voilà qu'il refait surface. Il a passé la soirée chez nous à manger les résidus de graines sous les mangeoires et nous l'avons surnommé Peureux car en soirée j'ai eu comme à l'habituer la visite de 4 ratons laveurs qui l'ont fait fuir au premier contact pour ne plus être revue depuis... Espérons que maman l'a retrouvé....

Visitors never cease to arrive in my yard! On April 19, 2019 this little Cub bear of barely fifteen pounds at the most came to inspect my yard. It's the smell of sunflower seed residue that probably led him to my house... No mom to be seen? We notified the conservation officers and removed our feeders temporarily in case mom arrived... It as been over a month since he was reported by my neighbors south of me and without his mom in early Marsh which is very unusual, after having talked to them 5 days ago, they had not seen it for 2 weeks and now it resurfaced at my place? The Cub spent the evening at my place eating the seed residue under the feeders and we nicknamed him Fearful because in the evening I had as usual to visit 4 raccoons who made him flee at first contact to never be seen again ... Let's hope that mom found him ....
La tour sud est beaucoup plus récente puisqu'elle date du début du XVIe siècle ; la première pierre est posée en 1485, le 10 novembre, par Robert de Croismare, les travaux étant commencés par Guillaume Pontif, maître d’œuvre. En 1496, Guillaume Pontif est remplacé par Jacques le Roux qui achève la tour en 1506. Elle est « couronnée », ce qui est caractéristique du style flamboyant, dite « de beurre », parce qu'elle a été financée avec les indulgences de carême, c'est-à -dire que des fidèles riches s'achetaient le droit de consommer du beurre et autres laitages pendant le carême tout comme à la cathédrale de Bourges où existe également une tour de beurre.
Une autre explication à cette dénomination est que cette tour est d'une teinte plus jaune (calcaire lutétien de Saint-Leu, dont la couleur pourrait faire penser que la tour a été sculptée dans une motte de beurre) que le reste de la maçonnerie en pierre blanche de Caumont et de Vernon. Elle n'est construite qu'à partir de 1485 et le chapitre de la cathédrale connut de houleux débats entre les « anciens » et les « modernes » pour décider qui des partisans d'une flèche ou d'une couronne l'emporterait. Finalement les seconds l'emportèrent. Sa construction qui coûta 24 750 livres tournois était destinée à équilibrer au sud le volume de la tour Saint-Romain. Elle se compose de quatre niveaux qui suivent un plan carré et d'un couronnement octogonal ponctué de pinacles.
L'immense cloche de la tour est fondue en 1501, elle prend le nom de son mécène, Georges d'Amboise.
La tour de Beurre a inspiré la construction d'un célèbre building de Chicago, la Tribune Tower, en 1923-1925.

The south tower is much more recent, dating from the beginning of the 16th century; the first stone was laid in 1485, on November 10, by Robert de Croismare, with work started by Guillaume Pontif, the master builder. The tower's immense bell was cast in 1501, it takes the name of its patron, Georges d'Amboise.
The Butter Tower inspired the construction of a famous Chicago building, the Tribune Tower, in 1923-1925.

Lens is the chunky Minolta MC Rokkor QE 100mm f3.5 Macro. In fairness I should be comparing this lens to my Pentax-M 100mm f4 macro, rather than the Rikenon. Both the Rokkor and the Pentax will focus down to half life-size.
The Pentax 'M' design philosophy was to produce lenses that were elegant, light, and compact. Almost all had a 49mm filter thread. The focus ring on the Pentax is buttery smooth and superbly dampened.
In contrast the Rokkor is like a brick (592g vs just 378g) and utilitarian in design. Yes, the lens is a smidgin faster (f3.5 vs f4), though not enough to justify the weight difference. Filter thread is 55mm. The focus ring moves in a way that suggests the lens has seen plenty of use.
While the two lenses handle quite differently, I do like the solid feel of the early Rokkor lenses.
The results so far look very nice.
As a comparison, I had photographed this same clump of daises just over a year ago - with the Rikenon.

Pendolino Plus test run from Ilmala depot to Lahti. Finnish Railways (VR) will introduce new Pendolino Plus service on Helsinki-Turku route starting from 3.11.2025. These are class Sm6 Pendolino high-speed trains that used to run between Helsinki and St. Petersburg until 2022.

Replaced the 3x7 drivetrain with a 2x10. I already had the parts, plus I have multiple wheelsets that will work on all my 2x10 rim brake bikes.

C'est l'un des plus anciens monastères bénédictins de Normandie puisque sa fondation, par Saint Philibert, date de 654. Abandonnée durant les invasions vikings en 841, la reconstruction s'est poursuivie au 11ème siècle et fut un chantier quasi permanent jusqu'à la guerre de Cent Ans (1337-1453). A la Révolution, l'abbaye est vendue et devient une carrière de pierres jusqu'au 19ème siècle. Elle est aujourd'hui à la charge du Département de la Seine-Maritime.
It is one of the oldest Benedictine monasteries in Normandy since its foundation, by Saint Philibert, dates from 654. Abandoned during the Viking invasions in 841, the reconstruction continued in the 11th century and was an almost permanent construction site until to the Hundred Years War (1337-1453). At the Revolution, the abbey is sold and becomes a stone quarry until the 19th century. It is now the responsibility of the Department of Seine-Maritime.

Le grrrrand concept de ce quartier 70's est de proposer une circulation différente entre les voitures et les piétons, ces derniers circulant de terrasses à terrasses sans jamais quitter le premier étage.

Cane Colvert (Female Mallard) au plumage isabelle (plus clair que la moyenne), fugueuse ou hybride!?! Chose certaine, il est plus que probable qu'il y ait du canard domestique là -dedans.
De tout temps, les humains se sont nourris des œufs et de la chair du Canard colvert. Il existe aussi depuis longtemps une variété domestique de cet oiseau, lequel est aussi à l’origine de nombreuses autres races de canards domestiques, dont le plumage brillant trahit la descendance. Le Colvert n’est pas seulement utile : ce magnifique oiseau fait aussi la joie de nombreux amateurs de plein air. L’ornithologue amateur connaît peu de spectacles aussi fascinants que celui des Colverts qui, les pattes tendues, cherchent à se poser au printemps sur les premières eaux libres.

No longer based out of Pointe St-Charles since this past Tuesday (!!), CN 500 enters the Port of Montreal with class leader CN 4700 and CN 4941 for power. CN 500 and CN 596 (previously the afternoon PSC switcher) are now based out of Southwark Yard. One plus for railfans is that means that CN 500 can end up with different power, as 3-4 local sets are based at Southwark.
Numerous other operational changes have taken place this week at Southwark Yard, among them:
-CN 321 originating at Taschereau Yard
-CN 527 being called a few hours earlier
-CN 522 no longer running to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (CN 525 goes there at night)

The bamboo grove in Arashiyama is one of those magical places where time seems to stop and where the sense of place envelops you completely. The best spot to photograph from is usually from the end of the trail, where you can fully appreciate the depth of the grove.
Better get there early to avoid the big crowds!
