Enigma - what is hidden underneath

They normally bloom blue in our area, so this new bush surprised me. It's planted in a different area of our yard. I started this one from a cutting, so I am doubly pleased with it.

This unusual pink one was growing along the side of the road near the Santa Rosa Plateau, California.
