This is actually from last season folks when I was lucky enough to have almost daily encounters with a Pileated family. (This shot was taken the day before the fledglings left the nest.) Sadly, this tree (which looked to have been home to many a woodpecker) was blown down this past winter in a wind storm. I think this young male and his sister still hang out in this park, but I've yet to get any decent shots of either of them since they left the nest last year. Guess I was just kind of missing these guys and came across this photo I hadn't posted before.

A British Swallowtail tastes the sweet nectar of summer!
I am already planning this year's pilgrimage to Norfolk to photograph the majestic Swallowtail butterflies and am looking to organise a tour with a small group of like minded people.
Over the recent years I've discovered most of the hotspots and not spots. Would anyone be interested in joining up? There'll be plenty of other wildlife opportunities, birds and flowers to photograph but the main goal is the rare and beautiful English Swallowtail.
...Will be hoping to provide special access to a lesser known and non-public area
...Travel arrangements to be discussed. Depending on numbers we may arrange a mini bus so that we all travel as a group

It was very early and very dark when I arrived at Green Cay this morning. The reward was catching this amazing act.

This little one was holding on in really strong winds. I really liked the way the swaying grass was captured in the background. The last of my shots from the field for a while. Have been waiting for the butterflys but they dont seem to be around at the moment.

From this perspective, on the Blowing Rock observation deck, it appears as if the town of Blowing Rock is bordering on the edge of annihilation with this apocalyptic looking cloud cover hovering above it.

Flickr system sometimes confuses people about time (SL is also) but I am so glad we can have many people to our event from all over the world<3
Sorry to make some people upset about the time system, we decided to add 1 more winner as 4th and sent a prize to the person. We mention only 3 winners for our contest poster so we don't mention this 4th winner on here.
