EXPLORED.

Coots are medium-sized water birds which are members of the rail family Rallidae. They constitute the genus Fulica. Coots have predominantly black plumage, and, unlike many of the rails, they are usually easy to see, often swimming in open water. They are close relatives of the moorhen. The greatest species variety is in South America, and it is likely that the genus originated there. They are common in Europe and North America(wikipedia).

Here is another one from my spring trip to Zion National Park. Thanks for looking!

- Music: Starry Starry Night (Don McLean Cover) Performed by Lianne La Havas from the film Loving Vincent (2017)

Starry, starry night

Flaming flowers that brightly blaze

Swirling clouds in violet haze

Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue

Colors changing hue

Morning fields of amber grain

Weathered faces lined in pain

Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Now I understand what you tried to say to me

And how you suffered for your sanity

And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how

Perhaps they'll listen now

For they could not love you

But still your love was true

And when no hope was left inside

On that starry, starry night

You took your life as lovers often do

But I could have told you, Vincent

This world was never meant

For one as beautiful as you

Mother Nature's Quite A Lady

- Music: Flesh and Blood by Johnny Cash

Beside a singing mountain stream

Where the willow grew

Where the silver leaf of maple

Sparkled in the morning dew

I braided twigs of willows

Made a string of buckeye beads

But flesh and blood needs flesh And blood

And you're the one I need

Flesh and blood needs flesh and blood

And you're the one I need

I leaned against a bark of birch

And I breathed the honey dew

I saw a North-bound flock of geese

Against a sky of baby blue

Beside the lily pads

I carved a whistle from a reed

Mother Nature's quite a lady

But you're the one I need

Flesh and blood needs flesh and blood

And you're the one I need.

Another one from deep in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park about three weeks ago. I was perched on top of a slippery rock when I shot this one.

The first light of the day in Death Valley. Taken in spring. I have been on a Flickr break for a bit but I am going to try to start catching up. I have 3 trips planned for October so hopefully I will report back with some autumn images in a bit. Thanks for looking!

On Saturday while in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park a big lightning storm rolled in and there were bolts coming down all around. Given that I was on exposed ground I took immediate precautionary measures by putting my shirt over my camera to protect it from the rain and then I started shooting. I used a cable release and multi-second exposures in immediate succession to finally capture one of the bolts. I got a bit wet when it was all said and done.
