No, this one is not on the menu. I was peeking him behind the bush when I suddenly emerged. It immediately took off. Lucky enough I was able to snap this shot without even composing it. In post, I had to lift the shadows to see the details on the duck body as it was underexposed.
It felt a little like magic when I saw this tiny red panda head pop up over the log with both eyes sparkling!
It's not often we get a look at mom Adira's very new baby since it's usually well hidden in the comfortable nest she prepared. Baby spends a good portion of the day sound asleep, but the times I've seen activity, it seems exceptionally strong for being just 5 weeks old.
I've always said that red pandas are one of the cutest animals on the face of the earth, and God must have created them just to make us smile! They are exceptionally adorable as adults, so seeing this precious miniature version, so young it's not yet capable of walking, is an absolute delight!

I guess that title is appropriate since Halloween is in a few days.
This was a fun catch after aligning it with TPE. I went to the location, but did't realize the park "closes" at sunset.. well the moon didn't rise till about 30 minutes after sunset. I idled the car by the entrance of the park, hoping to flag down the Park Ranger and tell him my plans, but nope. Nothing. No one came by.
Last thing I wanted was a park violation.
As about 6:38pm came about, I saw a peek of the moon over the hills.
My heart pounded.
Adrenaline kicked in.
I forgot everything I was worried about and just went with it.
Drove the car half a mile down the road, unloaded my gear, and shot.
The gate was still opened when I left the park.

This was shot last November in Utah. This is either Peek a Boo Canyon or Spooky Canyon. If anyone that knows the difference please let me know. As you can see this is a very narrow canyon. It was one of those where you go sideways and pass your camera backpack through to make your way down the canyon. At the end it opens up considerably to where you literally slide out and drop 4-5 feet. Very cool.
The Cascade Pass / Sahale Arm trail in the North Cascades takes you right through "Marmot Town." I believe this is the mayor.

One last attempt from our pumpkin vine to actually grow a pumpkin this year. If it happens, considering how late in the year it is, it may be one of the tiniest pumpkins ever, like walnut size?
Every year in October we throw a Harvest Fest for our backyard visitors. Most years we've been lucky enough to have a pumpkin vine or two weaving throughout the arena we set up.
But the last few years, nature has not cooperated, whether it's been weather or critters creating havoc, there's been no vines. This year, after planting dozens of seeds, multiple times, one finally survived - this one - and has been struggling the entire spring and summer. It's even bloomed a few times, but nothing came from those blooms, and the jury is still out on whether this bloom, peeking through those leaves, will fulfil its destiny.
