This past Tuesday, July 30 over 50 people shared a Ramadan iftar at CAIR-LA's Anaheim office.
The night included an international menu that was seemingly endless – spaghetti and meat sauce, samosas, Libyan soup, hummus, batengan (eggplant dish), , noodle and rice dishes, pastas, and a wide array of delectable desserts were all served. It was all delicious, and it all went fast.
What was reflected on Wednesday, however, was the diversity in not just the dishes that were served but, in particular, in the guests that attended the event. Attendees represented individuals from various backgrounds and walks of life; many originating from the Middle East, East and South Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and South America. Individuals from many faiths were represented including Catholics, Lutherans, Jews, Buddhists, Methodists, among others. There were also community leaders and many young people who attended.
After arriving in Rosario, we went straight to work with GSMP 2013 emerging leader Luz Amuchastegui and the staff at El Desafio Foundation. The day was full of activities, including games facilitated by Drs. Hillyer and Huffman at the local park, conversations with volunteers participants, and Saatchi & Saatchi mentors at the foundation's location, and a debrief with Luz and executive director Mario Raimondi in the evening.

My travel partner and tourist guide for the morning - my Dad. As a retired railway man he was keen to see just what they had done at Victoria Station.
The next group of images I will be posting will be of a morning trip I may made with my Dad to my home city of Manchester. While I have not lived in Manchester for some 25 years I still love it and its people.
I now live in central southern England and always joke with my Dad that it is 'grim up north' - but as you can see the sun does actually shine in Manchester.

The ladies started the day with a quick session at UT to learn about proper nutrition for an athlete so they can continue to grow stronger. From there, they toured the training facilities and stadiums to see how a program like UT operates. Then, one of UT's amazing coaches spent some time with the girls to work on agility and speed.

This lovely couple were taking a break at the Norman Rockwell exhibit, and were kind enough to let me take their photo.
I know nothing about them, but they look like they've been a couple a long, long time.
On May 19, 2023, Argonne hosted its first-ever Partner Day.
The event drew more than 100 guests from a wide range of organizations.
Attendees were senior leaders from industry, educational institutions, nonprofits, community organizations, and government.
The physical activity continued at the YMCA Anthony Bowen facility. In addition to aerial and budokon yoga sessions, the group participated in a panel discussion with YMCA of Metro Washington CEO Angie Reese-Hawkins, the first African-American female CEO for the YMCA in the U.S., and her staff.

Brooklyn, NY – Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens raised $1.5 million on September 30 at the 2021 Bishop’s Humanitarian Award Dinner. Held at Cipriani Wall Street, all proceeds benefit the more than 160 programs and services of Catholic Charities. During the program, Catholic Charities presented Michael Connors, Esq., Partner at Connors & Sullivan, PLLC and Domenick Cama, President & COO at Investors Bank, with the Bishop’s Humanitarian Award.
Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Romano, NYPD Chaplain and Rev. Msgr. John Delendick, FDNY Chaplain received the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Service Award, Rod Gilbert, former New York Ranger posthumously received the Ubi Caritas Award, and three Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens employees, Kathy Gilmore, Tara Kissoondial, and Sally Worrell received the John J. Farrell Award.
The 2021 Bishop’s Humanitarian Award Dinner is the last event the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Ph.D., D.D., Bishop of Brooklyn will co-chair for Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens following his official retirement. “When we are ordained bishops, in the ceremony itself we are told that we have to be concerned for the poor, the stranger—anyone in need in our midst—and that doesn’t just mean Catholics, but it means everybody in the territory of our Diocese,” said the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn. “I have been so happy as Bishop here because I know Catholic Charities does everything they can for the people in need. For those who are poor, those who are the strangers among us, and those with any kind of need, Catholic Charities does it and has done it well for so long. Especially during the last 18 months when the COVID situation was so grave.”
“Your support is so vital in enabling Catholic Charities to provide our neighbors with the helping hand they need to get back on their feet again,” said Reverend Monsignor Alfred LoPinto, Chief Executive Officer, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens.

The Bishop’s Humanitarian Award is presented annually to an individual who shows personal commitment to the well-being of the residents of our Diocese.
Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Service Award
Bishop Joseph Sullivan was an ardent advocate for social justice who dedicated more than 50 years to improving the lives of New Yorkers in need. A tireless leader, Catholic Charities was the recipient of his strong vision and unwavering leadership. In his memory, we have created the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Service Award to honor others who have followed in his footsteps by devoting their lives to the people of Brooklyn and Queens.
John J. Farrell Award
John J. Farrell was a former Director of Human Resources of JPMorgan Chase and a valuable, long-time member of the Catholic Charities Board of Trustees. Committed to serving our neighbors in need and bettering the workplace for thousands of the employees at JP Morgan Chase, his contributions to our work affected countless individuals. In his memory, we have created the John J. Farrell Award to honor employees of Catholic Charities who have dedicated 30 or more years of service to the agency, directly impacting their commitment to the mission of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens.
Ubi Caritas Award
The Ubi Caritas Award is presented for distinguished, unselfish support of human services as a reminder that true charity is the response of the human heart to God’s love for all people.
Joe Piscopo, comedian, actor, musician, writer and radio talk show host, served as Master of Ceremonies, and musical entertainers for the evening included his Big Band tribute to Frank Sinatra.
