This lovely couple were taking a break at the Norman Rockwell exhibit, and were kind enough to let me take their photo.

I know nothing about them, but they look like they've been a couple a long, long time.

In November 2013, Plan Myanmar launched a new project targeting 7,300 children in 50 camps in Myitkyina, Kachin. Ongoing conflicts in Kachin over the past two years have forced more than 100,000 people from their homes and into camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Given the scale of the situation, Plan is working with local partners to provide emergency support targeting the needs of children and mothers.

The physical activity continued at the YMCA Anthony Bowen facility. In addition to aerial and budokon yoga sessions, the group participated in a panel discussion with YMCA of Metro Washington CEO Angie Reese-Hawkins, the first African-American female CEO for the YMCA in the U.S., and her staff.

At the KMKM Maternal and Child Health Clinic, just outside Zanzibar’s capital Stone Town in the West District of the island that makes up part of the United Republic of Tanzania, nurse and midwife Kulthum Khamis holds a health education session for mothers who have assembled for vaccination of their babies. In health facilities across the country, both in mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, before their babies are vaccinated, mothers – and the fathers who bring in their babies – are given information about healthy practices, such as tips about good nutrition, cleanliness and exclusive breast-feeding for babies under six months old.

It was actually difficult to make my way in front of the Partners Statue for this shot, lots of bodies to displace! I wonder if Walt envisioned a party like this when he dreamt up Disneyland!

My quilting/knitting/crafting partners in crime and I went to Galena for an overnight. (We've been together as a group for 13 years and wanted to celebrate.) We stayed at Allen's Cabins, a place with five old log cabins that were brought from different places in the midwest and rebuilt here. John and his wife are the proprietors, and have been ever since three weeks ago!

John is clearly a history buff and loves to tell about the long and interesting history of the place. The house behind him, where he and his wife live, was the boyhood home of the Civil War general Augustus Chetlain. The house has been added to, but the original log cabin is the current dining room of the house.

John said that the previous owner used to mow over most of the plants. He's letting the plants grow right now, just to find out what's there. It's a beautiful place, but keeping 5 antique log cabins in good working order is no small job. John has a day job as director of food services at a local resort. I think his weekends will be fairly busy now as well.

Thanks for your kind hospitality, John. We enjoyed every minute of our stay with you!

John is #26 in my 100 Strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at www.100strangers.com.

"Partners" Set of 8 images dedicated to the portrait and the lights.

The ladies started the day with a quick session at UT to learn about proper nutrition for an athlete so they can continue to grow stronger. From there, they toured the training facilities and stadiums to see how a program like UT operates. Then, one of UT's amazing coaches spent some time with the girls to work on agility and speed.

Partners came together in mid-June to plant fifty threatened swamp pink plants at a western North Carolina bog managed by the North Carolina Plant Conservation Program. The fifty plants were raised in captivity by the Atlanta Botanical Garden from seed collected at the site. Raising the seeds in captivity reduces plant mortality, while using seeds originally harvested from this site helps conserve any unique genetic characteristics that may occur in the plants found at this bog. Staff from the Atlanta Botanical Garden, N.C. Plant Conservation Program, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service helped with the planting.

Swamp pink has been on the federal threatened and endangered species list as threatened since 1988. It’s sporadically found in wetlands from New Jersey to Georgia.

In February 2020 UUSC's Board and staff again traveled to Montegut, Louisiana, this time to meet with UUSC's partners from the Lowlander Center and Point-au-Chien Tribal Community center to learn more about their work and how their communities are being impacted by effects of climate change such as rapid land loss, salt water intrusion, as well as the harmful impacts of the oil and gas industry's man-made canals through the wetlands.
