Early spring on Dartmoor. The new leaves were just beginning to emerge on these trees. I love trees without their leaves, as better for photography I think (I love to see the structure of their branches). ....Being partnered with a lovely old stone wall, these just begged to be photographed.

Nine years ago, I arrived from Seattle with my partner Agnieszka, a little luggage, a camera and an open mind and heart to a new life in Poznan. Within the first week, I knew I was already falling in love with being here and the colorful autumn atmosphere was just beginning to whisper promises of so much more to come. I started out my adventure in Poznan by taking pictures of this new life abroad so I could show my family and friends back home how beautiful it was here and the discoveries I made along the way. Trams became a point of fixation and I loved sitting in the window seat watching my personal cinema unfold as it rolled through the city or glide past me from my pedestrian vantage point. The city streets that I walked everyday allowed me to feel the mood of the city and breathe its life with each passing season which inspired me to seek out stories of strangers that helped me understand my own walk in life. The atmospheric color of autumn and the chilling light of winter made me swoon with amazement and as each ended, I was already thinking about the next ones to come. Spring and summer brought longer days and a bounty of unexpected nostalgia as I was often reminded of my youth in Washington State and sometimes the light was so similar I felt like I had stepped back into my past and might be late for school. For almost seven years I lived in the heart of Jezyce, walking the streets, drinking coffee, buying my goods, and of course photographing daily life and simple moments that captured my attention and moved me. I opened a coffee shop in the Pasaz Apollo and for many wonderful years this gave me a reason to wake up at 5am and walk into the city chasing and photographing light every day of the year while getting lost in long shadows and the mysteries of sunrise and the early morning hours. For almost seven years I called Poznan my home and it is an honor to know that those seven years have shaped my life in extraordinary ways , inspired me to further pursue a life in photography and chasing light and that every moment of those years will remain firmly embedded in my soul along with a catalog of moments that make me smile at the memory of them. I arrived with an open heart and mind, but it was the people of Poznan who embraced me, made me feel welcome and that I belonged here, giving me new purpose in my new home. As always, thank you.
Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord --Importance of memory--
Landschaftspark is a public park located in Duisburg-Meiderich, Germany. It was designed in 1991 by Latz + Partner (Peter Latz), with the intention that it work to heal and understand the industrial past, rather than trying to reject it. The park closely associates itself with the past use of the site: a coal and steel production plant (abandoned in 1985, leaving the area significantly polluted) and the agricultural land it had been prior to the mid 19th century
Conception and creation
In 1991, a co-operative-concurrent planning procedure with five international planning teams was held to design the park. Peter Latz’s design was significant, as it attempted to preserve as much of the existing site as possible. Unlike his competitors, Latz recognized the value of the site’s current condition. He allowed the polluted soils to remain in place and be remediated through phytoremediation, and sequestered soils with high toxicity in the existing bunkers. He also found new uses for many of the old structures, and turned the former sewage canal into a method of cleansing the site.
Design
The park is divided into different areas, whose borders were carefully developed by looking at existing conditions (such as how the site had been divided by existing roads and railways, what types of plants had begun to grow in each area, etc.). This piecemeal pattern was then woven together by a series of walkways and waterways, which were placed according to the old railway and sewer systems. While each piece retains its character, it also creates a dialogue with the site surrounding it. Within the main complex, Latz emphasized specific programmatic elements: the concrete bunkers create a space for a series of intimate gardens, old gas tanks have become pools for scuba divers, concrete walls are used by rock climbers, and one of the most central places of the factory, the middle of the former steel mill, has been made into piazza. Each of these spaces uses elements to allow for a specific reading of time.
The site was designed with the idea that a grandfather, who might have worked at the plant, could walk with his grandchildren, explaining what he used to do and what the machinery had been used for. At Landschaftspark, memory was central to the design. Various authors have addressed the ways in which memory can inform the visitor of a site, a concept that became prevalent during Postmodernism.

I think this is stunning architecture! The station was designed by the architect John McAslan + Partners, and the renovation of the station, which to their credit, was completed in 2005, was done on schedule.

Well, I don't often post images of myself like this, but that canyon light is just too enticing! I couldn't get over that reflected light creating some unbelievable colours and warmth in the image.
Despite all that lovely light, there wasn't much of a scene until my lovely girlfriend Courtney decided to help me create some interest.

While on this year's trip to Capers Island, I found these two boneyard trees at sunrise and my thoughts wondered a bit, perhaps due to the changes, the erosion, on the island since my last visit. How long have they stood there? How many storms have they survived together? Eventually, one will likely succumb to the ocean before the other. The scene will be different. But that's tomorrow. Today enjoy and appreciate the strength and beauty of these two friends standing together through the years.
