This is one of my shots from the partial solar eclipse on October 23, 2014. I had so much fun shooting that evening.
Partial lunar eclipse on 19 November 2021, seen from Sapporo. I took this photo about 90 minutes after the maximum of the eclipse, towards the end of the partial phase when the moon was sufficiently high up in the sky to be seen well.

Upsala Glacier as seen from the International Space Station, October 2009. Click here for photo notes. The Upsala Glacier is a large valley glacier in Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park. It flows out from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, which also feeds the nearby Perito Moreno Glacier. The terminus of the glacier is at Lago Argentino. The Upsala Glacier is well known for its rapid retreat[1], which many see as evidence for global warming. The name comes from Uppsala University, which sponsored the first glaciological studies in the area.
The glacier's almost continual recession up until 1999 has recently slowed (as of 2003). The previous acceleration in ice motion during the two decades preceding 1999 may have been augmented by the release of backstress when the glacier retreated beyond the islands in Brazo Upsala.

I have to admit that when a swallowtail flutters by I drop everything else and focus on it for as long as I can.
Playing around with a mirror and the camera. At my age, the headless view has its appeal. LOL!

The scientist does not study nature because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it, and he delights in it because it is beautiful. If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, and if nature were not worth knowing, life would not be worth living. Of course I do not speak here of that beauty that strikes the senses, the beauty of quality and appearances; not that I undervalue such beauty, far from it, but it has nothing to do with science; I mean that deeper beauty coming from the harmonious order of the parts, and that a pure intelligence can grasp.

The partial lunar eclipse as seen from near the Mausoleum Rotenberg. We couldn't stay inside the areal of the Mausoleum, because the guard advised us to leaf at 9pm, just when it started!
