It was a wonderful warm summer night to walk around downtown Roseville. I was happy to see so many vintage neon signs in a place I had never been before. It made the evening a little more 3D to hear the sounds in the distance of a live band playing Journey echoing through the streets. They were so good at what they do, it left me wondering if it was real...

We're working on a magazine article on White Pocket, so I'm finally getting around to editing more of my images. I'll give you two shots for your Friday - both were taken on the same day. I don't recall it ever raining, but the sky was sure moody and we got some great light breaking through from time to time.
Best description I have for this bird. Internet research has described a partial albino junco. They are rare because they stand out and are victims of predators as a result.
I know there will be literally thousands of eclipse images posted to Flickr but I wanted to post mine anyway for several reasons but mainly because I witnessed it and was lucky enough to be able to shoot it. Here in Thunder Bay we had 74% coverage and this image was taken when we reached that maximum.
One day I was hungry for cholay.
And so I made it.
And took pictures of it.
And then I ate it.
The End.

Timelapse of the partial solar eclipse taken from Christchurch at sunrise on Monday the 22 of September 2025 between 6:26am and 8:18am. One of few locations in New Zealand where the weather afforded a decent view of the eclipse. The initial part of the eclipse was covered by some cloud on the horizon. There was no appreciable loss of light when the moon moved in front of the sun. As luck would have it, just during the maximum of the eclipse, some cloud passed in front of the sun which added a little extra interest I think.
I used my star tracker to follow the sun. However, as I used my long lens (400mm) I had to use a counterweight. This is a setup I had never tried in the field. It would have worked well had I not bumped the alignment when I mounted the camera. The end result was that I had to manually align all the images in post processing. At the start I took some images manually with too much time in between before I started the interval mode. Apologies for a few little jitters along the way.
