Secretary Landgraf joined individuals with disabilities, their parents and providers for a panel discussion on how to advance employment and post-secondary education for young people with disabilities at the state level as part of the annual conference of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD).

During the Nov. 18 panel, Secretary Landgraf said transition work needs to begin as early as possible, and help to meet “the purpose and the promise” of the student and his or her family. The transition to employment or post-secondary education is crucial in breaking the cycle of poverty for so many individuals with disabilities, and she noted that many federal and state policies are coming into alignment on that front.

As for meeting expectations, Secretary Landgraf told the more than 300 people in attendance from across the country that it’s important for state officials to “listen and evolve with the person before you in order to fulfill their dreams.”

Joining on the panel were John Jr. and John III Bogasky. John III just got a job with the Smithsonian. “It’s a 10-year overnight success story,” his dad said. John III detailed the internships and part-time jobs he has had, leading up to this position. John Jr. said early education for parents is especially important in raising expectations and improving understanding about later success.

Ellie Carney just finished a position with an animal welfare group and expects to be hired. Her mom, Maedi Tanham Carney, said post-secondary programs are absolutely critical.

Stephanie Orlando, director of YOUTH POWER! at Families Together in Albany, N.Y., said her organization is seeing success with peers.

My going-away cupcakes from my part-time job at Pier 1. I had been there since November 1, 2004. I remember that I had my interview for it on my 21st birthday. I'm not gonna miss the job, but I am gonna miss all the people I worked with there.

"That was dad's clubhouse gang. They all lived in a clubhouse next to the Mississippi river during the Depression. Since nobody had a job they helped out on the ferry boat taking people over to Mosenthein Island. Whoever got a part time job as a butcher, baker, or grocery man brought stuff home to eat. Other than that they were just river rat kind of guys.

The job/internship fair was held in Insalaco Hall on 3/16/16 from 12-3. This was an excellent opportunity to explore full-time and part-time jobs and internships with some of our region's best employers, as well as some opportunities outside of our local area. Even if the students are not immediately looking for a job or internship, it's never too early to start networking!!

New year, new regimen for grandma.

Some days I get unbelievably annoyed, some days I loathe it, but this is my life; and I wouldn't trade it for the world. My grandmother has given me the world, and never asked for anything in return. It was decided amoung us that I would be her caretaker "when the time came." I've lived with her my whole life, she is most comfortable with me, and I have dealt with daily life with an Alzheimer's paitent with my grandfather.

I still hold a part time job, and am able to work in special events and trips into my schedule, but my biggest responsibility is her. She is a beautiful woman, downright hilarious, and would give you the shirt off her back. I have never met someone as selfless as my grandmother. Her laugh is contagious, and if you have met her, she loves you as her own grandchild.

I don't get to see my friends quite as much as I'd like to, I don't get the alone time or level of independence I (sometimes) wish I could have, but I have something more important; I have my beautiful gram. And she has me.

I posted this on my facebook ( www.facebook.com/dylanmurphyphotography ) but I'll post it here too.

Looks like I'll have extra time on my hands since my part time job hours have been getting cut. Need to figure out some business things that have been long overdue...like figuring out some basic packages and prices for more traditional shoots. What do you all think is the most important thing when booking a photographer? Quality? Their style? Price? I'm sure it's a combination of these things...But can the average person differentiate these things when comparing or are most people likely to skip to price and how many images they are getting?

and do people prefer a-la-carte or package options for ordering prints?..No, I am not giving away high res images on cd's with releases, I'm just not going there haha. I have good reasons..unless it's for a commercial project, then I do that sometimes. Low res I am willing though so people have them for facebook and whatnot, but not for printing.

I don't get very many people contacting me for things, but I know people think I do good stuff and I've been in local shows and stuff. I feel like maybe since I don't show prices for anything that people just pass me up...or that a lot of my portfolio isn't more traditional? I come up in the top search results in my area for my website ( www.dylanmurphy.net )

Anyone got any ideas or input?

I would love to do more commercial/editorial stuff but there's just no market in my immediate area for that kind of stuff from what I've seen anyway.

This friendly little fellow love a nice piece of cake. His favourite is lemon drizzle cake but can be quite partial to a carrot cake every now and again. He has a part time job at Sainsburys answering the phone after hours but his chatter is pretty much indecipherable to anyone over 12" tall.

Application for graduation. I think that says it all. After a long 5 years, I’m finally going to be out and free.

I’m actually excited and nervous to be finished because now it means no more meaningless part-time jobs, no more fooling around. Looks like it’s time to buckle up.
