A brother and sister Rufous Hummingbird chicks.
I had planned to continue uploading and catching up with your shots after I uploaded the previous owl shot, but a number of nature/photography 'miracles' happened, including this one.
A photographer friend of mine notified me as to the location of this nest site. (His name is Terry Venables and his blog is located here: www.NaturalImagesCanada.ca/blog He is nature photographer that specializes in hummingbirds).
A video/photographic amalgamation has been made of the first day I spent at the nest when the chicks were three days away from fledging, and can be view on my YouTube channel here: youtu.be/4jh8G1U1Ztk It showcases the juxtaposition of chicks at relative rest and the frenzy of activity that occurs seconds after feeding.
Needless to say, with the juggle of life being challenging enough, I utilized every spare hour to spend some quiet time with these two before they left. (I haven't even had the time to look at most of my images!).
This week, I also received my 2 part-time jobs back, it's my husbands birthday tomorrow, my daughter is graduating next week, and I begin to realize, that though I miss you, my friends on Flickr, I will most likely have to wait till the dust settles to catch up.
I look forward to it! In the meantime, please have patience with me, until then... :)
Please don't use this image on websites, blogs, etc. without my permission.

Please accept my apologies for my Flickr absence. A combination of a week away mountain guiding, a part time job and plenty of work on the house seem to fill my days at the moment.
As for this photo, it was taken on the day I arrived in the Lakes. I had a planning meeting arranged for 3.00pm so being early found myself with a lovely days weather and a little time so I took myself on a smashing hike up Loughrigg, a hill that I have previously ignored as I have passed by heading for the more lofty Lakeland hills. What a lovely hour or so this was.
This view looks north north west with Grasmere providing the central focus. It is of course an iPhone panorama.

Heidi insists on her share of the newspaper. I try to read it first as she fiercely claims her right of free expression. (Rest assured, she isn‘t focused on U.S. politics alone. She rips the Brazilian and the Chinese head of state to pieces, too. And our local mayor. She's a smart girl.)
Anyway, sadly Heidi isn't a spring kitten anymore, and apart from issues like what I call kitty Parkinson's (some neurological disorder that gives her a sort of tremor from time to time) and an early stadium of chronic renal disease she started developing a tumor on her lower back last winter. We had it removed and it turned out to be fibrosarcoma, which is essentially cancer. It usually doesn't metastasize, but it's hard/impossible to completely get rid of. It just keeps coming back, and you can't keep cutting skin out of a relatively small animal's back. I opted against chemotherapy as I feel that's not something you do to a living being that doesn't understand what they're suffering for. Our vet suggested trying homeopathy, and since there's not much else we can do that's what we're trying. A specialist worked out a treatment plan for us, and we started it last Tuesday after removing the tumor yet again (which is really tricky now, because the skin is so bow-taut on her back now, that a few stitches came off :-(( ). It comes down to some sort of part-time job to slip her antibiotics, pain-killers, renal medicine and two to five homeopathic remedies. Let's just say she's getting used to vast amounts of daily treats.
Her back looks like one of Dr Frankenstein's creations at the moment, but for now she doesn't seem overly bothered by it. I fear we can't win this, but we won't give up that easily.
Couldn't resist before bed, sharing this one snapped today at Babbinswood after delivering logs and passing on good news about Rosie's blackthorn infected foot.

Ps. I know i'm behind on comments and replies... "stop nagging" (I'm saying to myself) But I'm celebrating finding a nice part time job... and one of my dog sitting clients phoned this evening and booked me :-)))))
Largest tent in the world, or so they claimed. It was huge. Actually, one of two identical set-ups. While one was being used for the show, the other was being torn down, transported and set up in the next city.
I did a part-time job in Customer Service when the show was in San Jose, California.
Such cheerful colors. I found myself wondering what the interior color scheme might be. I'm seeing orange, yellow, and red.
When my son was born, I took a part time job at an Ace Hardware Store. We sold tons of paint to the apartment buildings across the way. Nothing but Navajo White. Boring. But I'm guessing it might be hard to attract renters to an apartment that's the color of a Cabernet grape. Just saying.
Happy Fence Friday everyone.

Smoky Mountains National Park, TN, USA. In the early 1870s when John Cable built his mill at the west end of Cades Cove, it was surrounded only by his fields. Like most farmers with gristmills, Cable's milling was a part-time job. Although the mill was open for business on specific days, customers who came at other times could ring a large bell near the mill when they wanted to call John Cable from his fields. Today, Cable Mill has a visitor center plus the Gregg-Cable House and several farm buildings which were moved in from other parts of the cove.
Fozzie: "I got a job at the factory that makes combs. It's a part-time job, and sometimes it can be a little hair raising. But I did buy my bald friend a comb for his birthday. He said he'll never part with it."
It was late in the evening and many of our friends were a little worse for wear. Two of them had crept up to their hotel rooms and returned to the party wearing pyjamas, ordering espresso martinis at the bar. I was driving, so all of the revelry was passing me by after that single pint I’d had several hours earlier before the pasties arrived. It was almost time to go, when Lisa, who we'd both known for well over twenty years, collared us. “I want you both to f*** off,” she slurred gently, “and I mean f*** off in the nicest possible way, go on lots of adventures, and remind the rest of us that there’s life out there once you leave.” Many of us had worked together for a very long time and had become members of this huge institutionalised family of sorts. Whether she might have been rather less forthright with the Anglo-Saxon in a lesser state of inebriation, I’ll never know, but we assured her we’d do that.
We were attending a retirement knees up in honour of one of the vice principals, a lady loved by us all, who’d finally found the escape tunnel after forty-one years at the education grindstone, well over twenty of those in our further education college. Quite frankly, anyone who can survive for that long in the sector deserves a telegram from the king, a carriage clock the size of Big Ben and a self filling reservoir of gin when they hang up the gown and take their pension. It was her night and we were all on her side. But she wasn’t the only recent retiree. Your narrator, freshly returned from eight days in the Brecon Beacons, had also only just handed back his abacus after a far more modest twenty-one years at the chalkboardface. Ali was still teaching on Saturdays, but had finished her full time job at the college almost three years earlier. And if you’re wondering why it was the Brecon Beacons and not the Bahamas, well, we were still drifting in and out of lockdowns and overseas travel was only for those who weren’t overwhelmed by the mountains of paperwork, the vaccination passports and the compulsory wearing of masks on the beaches in Benidorm and Benalmadena. Besides which, we rather like the Brecon Beacons.
It’s a great tradition at this time of year for those of us whose lives are no longer governed by the academic calendar to cram as many holidays as we possibly can into the diary as soon as the kids go back to school. Jokes abound on the social media chat about escapees gadding off in the direction of southern blue skies while the inmates turn grey with anxiety on the first day of September. It’s no coincidence that in my first full September of freedom, I spent two weeks taking photographs in Iceland. We love purposefully avoiding term time holidays now. Far quieter, much much cheaper and extremely high scoring on the giant smugness indicator that's been erected on the roundabout at the entrance to the college. And because neither of us have forgotten Lisa’s instructions, we always post a few phone snaps on Faceplant, just to check that she’s paying attention. And when she does spot a photo of us gurning into our phones at the top of a volcano in Fuerteventura, or slumped on a beach such as this one in Zakynthos, she always reacts with a big red love heart rather than a further instruction to go forth and multiply. Sometimes it almost feels as if we're going on holiday for her rather than ourselves.
And today, it’s exactly three years since my last ever day at work. Not once have I ever thought to myself “I wish I’d stayed on for another couple of years,” or “perhaps I should get a part time job.” Never. Not ever. Not even maybe. In a few days we’re off on another trip, to lounge about on beaches, potter around markets sampling cheese and olives, linger over long lunches and swim where the sea is still warm. Another island we’ve never been to before, and another place where just maybe I’ll find something to photograph (it won't surprise you to learn I’ve been doing my research). But it really won’t matter whether I take a shot or not, because the main thing is that we escaped to enjoy these golden years without worrying about the endless deadlines and dramas of yesteryear on a daily basis. None of us are here forever, and work gets in the way of an awful lot of life. We owe it to Lisa, and all of our other friends who are still toiling and trying to get a tiny bit closer to that exit door. And I just know she's got a big red heart waiting for when we post that snap of us dozing in deckchairs while so many of our old friends are tearing out what's left of their hair amid the autumn term insanity.

Taken for this weeks Macro Monday group theme: gift
My two teenagers pitched in together to give me this lovely Pandora heart ring for Christmas. To be honest it looks so much prettier in person as the natural light shows the bling of the little jewels. I was so appreciative of their gesture to go together and buy this gift for me. They are 18 and 16 years old and my youngest was especially excited to actually use his own money to buy gifts for his dad and me for Christmas this year as he just started his first part time job at our local grocery store back in April, all during the craziness when the pandemic was hitting us hard. My daughter (the oldest) was saying her brother was so shy and funny at the store that he left it up to her to talk to the salesperson but together they both chose this heart ring. I am truly spoiled to have such loving, hard working and generous kids. When I saw today's theme for the group I knew I had just the perfect gift to photograph and post. ❤️
Happy Macro Mondays to you all!
Jules and I spent a quiet evening at home watching cat entertainment videos on YouTube. Hmm...maybe I should look for a part-time job, wonder if anyone would hire me?
Up on Jay Peak Resort.
A lucky lady has the job of designing and creating the gardens just for this area. A sweet part-time job.
One of the perks of the job. My reason for absence from Flickr of late can be partially put down to the fact that I have taken on board a part time job. I make bulk deliveries for the retailer Next, between their central warehouses and their stores in the north of England and the Midlands. There are certain benefits as exhibited here in this shot taken at the UK Rail depot in Leicester. The stores tend to have a delivery access road to their back doors and the one in Leicester runs adjacent to the depot with its exotic heritage traction.
56098 looking great in the large logo livery is seen on a particularly sunny afternoon at the station end of the depot. Interestingly this locomotive which dates to October 1981 is scheduled to be reengineered as 69016. Of course there have been a few issues with these locos so I guess we will have to wait and see if this rebuild goes ahead.
Sorry I've been away for the last while. I'm back to my part-time job in the seasonal department at RONA for for a stretch, and I've also been working as a scorer for the Ontario Grade Ten Literacy Test. Scored about 3000 tests. All-in-all a pretty intense time. Karen and I are also looking after the grandkids a fair bit, now that the the good weather is here (sort of), and various kids' activities have started up again.
Haven't had time for photography; thus, this image picks up from where I left off in my Mountsberg set.
Will be around to see you all ASAP, but It'll likely take a bit.
From "Mountsberg Conservation Area"
www.hrca.on.ca/ShowCategory.cfm?subCatID=1088
The extensive wetlands of the Mountsberg Conservation Area are a birdwatcher’s paradise. Waterfowl and shorebirds clamber about a misty lake while hundreds of warblers flit through forest and meadow. Nature surrounds you at this scenic conservation area that has great hiking and cross-country ski trails outfitted with boardwalks, birdfeeders and interpretive lookouts. You can even take in that first taste of spring on a horse drawn wagon ride in the Mountsberg Sugar Bush where maple syrup, pancakes and sweet sugar candy create indelible family memories.
You can even come face to face with a great horned owl. browse the exhibit gallery or gift shop, or see a live bird presentation during a year-round program with many special events. The call of the wild awaits you at this exciting conservation area!
This is rather subdued for me. I have been playing around with my shots of the bridge. I still have to make a trip back hopefully in about 2 weeks when peak autumn arrives in Connecticut.
I am sorry I have not been on Flickr much. I have been setting up my store and it took me days of redoing prices to finally get them correct & fair I hope.
I did sell one canvas Spirit in the Falls just a few days after I set up the store. Yay!!
If anyone would like to take a look my photography store is at the following link:

With that said, I don't think it is going to be so easy just to offer them for sale and sales will be much of anything until I put a lot of work into marketing.
This has always been the part that intimidated me. Of course, photography is the fun part. Though, I was a sales manager in my career so I am sure I can do this. It will just take a lot of work. Photography definitely is not a part-time job, I am sure especially because there is a great deal of competition out there I will have to put in a lot of hours if I want to make this work. Over the last several days, I have been averaging 12-14 hours a day. The day out got out to photograph in the middle, though it was a cloudy day and I thought conditions were perfect for sunset over a Connecticut late. After I sat on the shore, muddy, wet and cold, in the bushes until after dark, sunset was a bust. I was there for blue hour which was beautiful but now I have to learn how to stitch in photoshop to make a panoramic. So this is all a work in progress for me. With that said, I am stoked to not be a cashier at Walmart (lol) and doing what I love to do!!
I will catch up with everyone today. As always thanks so much to everyone that takes the time to view, comment & favorite my work. I truly appreciate you guys!!

Is there anything better in life than to feel the joy of pure happiness? I don't think so. Today I feel joy for my 16 yr old daughter.
Last night our family went out on a mission - we went to "look" at used cars for my daughter who wants to buy one of her own. She found one immediately and she bought it. So much for just going to "look". It was a great deal and the car had low mileage. If she didn't scoop it up someone else would've. She picks it up on Monday and am sure she thinks that day can't come soon enough. I am so proud of her. Now my 14 yr old hopes to do the same in two years time once he can get his first part time job.
My daughter saved money over the past year from her part time grocery store job for this car. When I was 16 I don't even think I had $100 in my bank account. Way to go sweetie! Enjoy your new wheels and the freedom! xo
PS: I think daisies give people happiness. They do it for me. :)
I hope you all had a great day!
Yesterday I took this shot of the Head Office building of the Royal Bank of Canada in Toronto. RBC is Canada's largest financial institution and is in the top 20 in the world. Built in the 1970s , each of the glass windows in coated with 24 karat gold, which was done in the 1970s at a cost of $70 per panel primarily to reduce heating costs. The gold is not recoverable due to the process used to coat the windows, but it makes for a very beautiful skyscraper in the Toronto financial district.
When I was attending university I took a part time job at a branch of the Royal Bank in Mississauga primarily to help pay for my university fees and for pocket money. Adele B was an employee in her 50's, a kind gentle Canadian woman, who was given the herculean task of training me in the art of being a teller. She was a wonderful, brilliant and for me a very patient teacher :). This was my first job in the banking industry...I would go on to do many other things after I left RBC, but I always remember this great lady who was the first person to introduce me to the world of banking. So Adele, wherever you are, this one's for you. What an amazing woman !
Liquorice all sorts from my garden. I didn’t realise I had this much color and more probably because I have lost so much interest in the garden. Shame really for years ago I used to be able to make up about 20 bunches of flowers a week and take to the school where I worked and sell them for $2.00 a bunch until it got to the stage where some teachers were not leaving money just taking. The aim of this was to cover my petrol costs getting to work. A 100 klm round trip each day for a little part time job the car guzzled most of my wage. The plan worked for a while but I soon realised my 2 to 3 hours of putting them all together was not paying off for my non paying customers. In the end I would bunch some up and give them to the teachers I wanted to.
Today was the last day of classes so I decided since I have a little extra time that I could post an image in here. Several people have been checking on me and I appreciate that. All is good and I have a part time job for the holidays doing Santa shots and company Christmas parties.

Idunno guys and gals, I'm trying to keep up with making at least one self portrait each week but man have I been feeling bad lately. In the past two weeks I've been ill, had terrible back pain, had terrible hip pain, had a stabbing pain in one of my teeth and now that has expanded to my entire jaw. FUN TIMES. And I've started another part time job because I can't be a starving artist forever. So yeah. Better luck next week, hopefully. ;) Hope all is well with you!

Back in 1985/86 I'd have been given lifts tothis a part-time job in this town in my mum's Renault 5 GTL, so it was appropriate to see one here some years (decades!) later.
I've had dogs most of my life and have lately been thinking whether I can have another. Last night I watched a moving documentary about dogs, today the bloke in the photo offered to give me a border terrier, then I befriended a fox hound straggler for an hour or so, then someone phoned me suggesting a part-time job at a kennel! Synchronicity? :-)
It's been quite a while since I've managed any meaningful photos but I got lucky this morning. My part time job is slow and I've had two sunny days off in a row where I really had no plan other than to get up when I felt like it and see what's going on. Yesterday I didn't get out the door until 0800, but today I was out at 0415. I headed down to the station to watch the sunrise with a coffee in hand and to check various sources for intel. One eastbound went by and then this beauty showed up with me having no idea what was on it. It pretty much meant a chase and although the crew was not having a really good day, I was ! An hour or so waiting on a meet at Wolverton allowed this shot of 135 working upgrade approaching Drumbo, Ontario at about mile 73 of the Galt Subdivision. These heritage units are pretty sweet.
