I understand this is a hard life.

I can go into the details but it's just too hard to word how difficult it is to watch your family struggle to keep their home. Feed their kids. Themselves.

It's hard to see my Mother, who has constantly kept at LEAST two steady part time jobs her entire life to support us.only to hurt her arm and recieve zero benifets for the two years it takes for the system to give her the help she and my family needed ages ago.

It's hard to be a full time college student with her whole future planned out but only enough government aid to attend community college.

I have promise.

I know once I get to a four year college I will excel in my area of study and make a name for myself.

But that's not enough these days.

For anyone really, not just me. I'm not special. There are hundreds of thousands of kids in my situation.

And although I do not fully agree with some of the demands these people are making...I can agree with one thing.

I am part of the 99%.

I love my mom... I really do.

But she must be stopped.

Dressing the dog up for mardis gras screams "I need a part time job to really enjoy my retirement."

But then... Here I am, posting the shots. Hrm.

This is so hot. One of my many part-time jobs during college was window washing which I never did very well even after nearly 4 years of it. I constantly notice professional window washers way up on high-rise buildings hanging off the side. Sure it's annoying when you're walking down the sidewalk and that gross foam rains down unexpectedly from above, but I fetishize window washers the same way some people fetishize police officers or firemen. I'm sure the reality of the job isn't as exciting, but this is a big fantasy for me.

Secretary Landgraf joined individuals with disabilities, their parents and providers for a panel discussion on how to advance employment and post-secondary education for young people with disabilities at the state level as part of the annual conference of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD).

During the Nov. 18 panel, Secretary Landgraf said transition work needs to begin as early as possible, and help to meet “the purpose and the promise” of the student and his or her family. The transition to employment or post-secondary education is crucial in breaking the cycle of poverty for so many individuals with disabilities, and she noted that many federal and state policies are coming into alignment on that front.

As for meeting expectations, Secretary Landgraf told the more than 300 people in attendance from across the country that it’s important for state officials to “listen and evolve with the person before you in order to fulfill their dreams.”

Joining on the panel were John Jr. and John III Bogasky. John III just got a job with the Smithsonian. “It’s a 10-year overnight success story,” his dad said. John III detailed the internships and part-time jobs he has had, leading up to this position. John Jr. said early education for parents is especially important in raising expectations and improving understanding about later success.

Ellie Carney just finished a position with an animal welfare group and expects to be hired. Her mom, Maedi Tanham Carney, said post-secondary programs are absolutely critical.

Sunday morning...at the stove...making chai (yes, again!)...

It's June already... I need to get myself moving on projects, printing, calls for entry and possibly finding a part time job. It's a very strange time in my life...scary for me in some ways, because of potential changes that force me to tweak my thinking about a number of things.

The job/internship fair was held in Insalaco Hall on 3/16/16 from 12-3. This was an excellent opportunity to explore full-time and part-time jobs and internships with some of our region's best employers, as well as some opportunities outside of our local area. Even if the students are not immediately looking for a job or internship, it's never too early to start networking!!

This is where I had my first real job. A part time job at weekends. More than 35 years ago. At that time the building had a big "BP" sign.

My going-away cupcakes from my part-time job at Pier 1. I had been there since November 1, 2004. I remember that I had my interview for it on my 21st birthday. I'm not gonna miss the job, but I am gonna miss all the people I worked with there.

"That was dad's clubhouse gang. They all lived in a clubhouse next to the Mississippi river during the Depression. Since nobody had a job they helped out on the ferry boat taking people over to Mosenthein Island. Whoever got a part time job as a butcher, baker, or grocery man brought stuff home to eat. Other than that they were just river rat kind of guys.
