September 10-17 is National GEAR UP Week and an assembly kicked it off at Lincoln HS on Monday morning.

The featured speaker was Kile Snider, valedictorian from Lincoln’s class of 1984.

Snider was introduced by John Gilman, GEAR UP Iowa’s Project Coordinator and a classmate who remains a close friend. Snider recalled that when he was a high school junior he sang in the school’s choir, played football and worked a part-time job at Dahl’s in addition to his classwork. After graduation he studied engineering at Iowa State and later earned a Master’s Degree at Cal-Davis before launching a career in municipal wastewater purification that’s based now in Fort Collins, CO and has taken him as far around the world as Australia. Literally, Snider’s work makes the world a better place.

I have a chalk board in which I keep my TO-DO list. It has some really interesting tasks at the moment. Like "Get a job", "Apply to a school", "VJ Sellek & Hanks on the case" and of course, "You need more ink".

Which refers to my never-ending hunger for tattoos. So yeah. That kind of explains it.

But this urge will be full filled by the end of the year. Which is nice.

ALSO. The chalk board is the perfect picture for today, because I'm pretty sure I got a small part-time job today as a teacher. Yup. Going to be running a small 38 hour long Multimedia Workshop in a high school near me. Madness.

While attending college I had a part-time job as a cake decorator. I applied some of these skills in my metalsmithing class during college and came up with some unique items. I also remember helping a friend of mine making some flowers with some decorating tools and clay in a ceramics class. It was so much fun, although I am not sure the professor liked that I helped her with her project. I had forgotten all about those moments until I started working as a part-time decorator again. I mixed some clay the consistency of frosting the best I could, then used it just as I would on a cake. Making a wonderful ruffle affect. After using the raku process, the results were fantastic! The colors are even more beautiful in person. Wonderful red with a rainbow of colors.

I happened to have my camera with me today and as I walked home I took some pictures of the trashier part of town that include the old theatre, the local whorehouse (think sleazy Gold Rush style), deserted parking lots, thrift stores... and a couple blocks away Dairy Queen, the nearly empty TELUS building, and several blocks away from that a grocery store called Overwaitea.

When I was in grade nine I decided to leave my seven year history as a paper girl for some real work. I really didn't want to get a part time job at any kind of fast food joint (I thought it was beneath me)... but to appease the parental units I dutifully dropped off my resume to various establishments that were within easy walking distance of my home. Much to my horror, some of the places actually wanted to hire me. And so began my beautiful history as an employee of Dairy Queen. I quickly moved up in the ranks and became a cake decorator... and to this day if I'm in Dairy Queen (which is very frequent indeed) I always check out the cake freezer and shake my head at the shoddy workmanship. I was not just a decorator, I was an artist.

Today I retired from my part-time job in our local Supermarket.

I think this was my favorite of all the asian markets in the neighborhood, I bought a lot of stuff here and always secretly dreamed of having a part-time job there. There used to be a gorgeous young (daughter?) who sometimes worked the register, I'm sure that had a little bit to do with it!

I have been a fan of Arlo Guthriesince 1972. In 2000 I was on the way into my part time job when I heard he was going to be in the next town over that night. I took the day off, headed for the concert - only to fined out that it was soldout. As I was leaving a gentleman sold mea ticket because he had been stood-up and had tickets he did not need.

Arlo does a great show - worth see if you get a chance.

I made this photo from the passenger seat of a moving car in March 2011 but had not published it until I discovered that The Liverpool Echo reported this story on 31st January 2013.

The opportunity to point out the situational irony of a non-existent 'Paradox' could not be missed and appealed to my sense of humour!

"An iconic tower which used to be the Paradox nightclub was knocked down yesterday.

The art-deco style clock tower, on Ormskirk Road, Aintree – which used to be the Vernon Pools building – was demolished after years of decay.

The site is set to become a two-storey retail and leisure complex run by Sports Direct Ltd.

The building started out in the 1920s as the Vernon Pools building, but when they moved to new premises in 1991 it became the Paradox nightclub.

But the club was shut in 2001 after local residents made a series of allegations about violence, drug use and under-age drinking.

Since it shut, however, the tower has been left to rot and had become an eyesore.

While people held fond memories of the club, the building was never listed and therefore could be knocked down.

The plans submitted in November last year were for a 3,716 sq m building, with a shop, gym, restaurant and 154 space single-storey car park.

It is hoped the new complex will create 20 full-time and 58 part-time jobs."

Okay this is legit: you know in movies when the guy calls the girl and the girl is like, gee Thomas, I can't go out with you tonight, I'm doing my hair--yeah, it's true, it is so true guys. The struggle is real. From start to finish of this wash which consisted of shampooing, and then deep heat conditioning, and then a leave in, and then moisturizing and gelling and twisting my hair...the whole thing was a 3 hour process.

I was warned. One of the hair vloggers I watch said, you know, a lot of natural girls want a big mane of hair, they dream about it (yes!), the obsess about it (right now, uh huh), but keep in mind, like mo' money, mo' problems, mo' hair, mo' problems. I am nearing Pam Gro fro level and it is starting to become a pain with the maintenance. In order, however, to get my hair long, I have to nourish it like some kind of living baby on my head. Drinking water, taking so called 'hair vitamins' which are just regular vitamins, getting enough sleep, getting some exercise, eating right, moisturizing! It's a part time job for sure.

On this day I couldn't find my clear cap, so some saran warp with another layer of 99 cent bag will do, yes ma'am, yes sir! I'm getting the job done in the kitchen sink fo' sho'!

Jane Ross from Clapton:

"I made an icon of Mary in lockdown. I teach and have another part-time job, from which I have been furloughed. I have been very disturbed by these world events but lockdown has given me more time to make. I made the broccoli image at the beginning of lockdown. I found painting little repetitive patterns soothing, and food, or lack of it, was very important. People who could, were beginning to grow their own vegetables. The broccoli is made by melting glass over a plaster cast that I made from a piece of broccoli. "

With only a part time job and Driver's Ed, it is excessive to what I'm used to. Sometimes I just get way too stressed out. And that creates this picture taken before work.

My pores look yucky, but I had to emphasis the teardrop. My eye looks cool, and for once I didn't edit my eye color, that's the real me.

hehe :) Silly faces!!!

Things have been so rough lately. This is supposed to be a happy season, but it really isn't. It's just hectic and stressful! Because I haven't been able to find another part time job or full time job and they recently cut my hours at my current job no one is getting Christmas presents :( I was almost evicted from my home and then both my Grandpa's ended up in the hospital, and that was all in one week!! And then I had to put my dog down :(

I'm trying to figure things out, and I'm sick of being so stressed. The only thing I can think of is just to stop, thank God that I am alive and healthy as well as my friends and family...AND THEN make a silly face and take a picture of myself :)

There are part-time jobs in Japan that requires you to hold something-- poster, placard, picture, etc in order to advertise. Due to my limited Nihonggo skills, I could only read some parts in the placard this guy had been holding: BOYS, kudasai(please), aidoru (idol), then a heart sign. Was he looking for boy-love? :))

EDIT: Kasukabemisao said:

"hi there

actually what was written on the cardboard is " ginnan boys ichi mai kudasai"

ginnnan boys is a rock band in japan from what I guess the boy is begging any passerby to give or sell him one ticket for their gig probably at a live house nearby

Bands like ginnan boys usually will play in small live house so the chances of the ticket being sold out is high

Japanese always use this method to beg other gig goers who have extra tickets to sell..."

Thanks for clarifying! :D
