In this experiential program, students learn about Chesapeake geography, social studies, and economics by following the blue crab on its journey from the brackish Bay to our picnic tables. The program focuses on the people who earn their livelihood from the crabbing industry. Students have a chance to walk in their shoes by working a trotline activity, picking stuffed crabs at a packing house, ordering from a restaurant on a migrant worker’s wages, and culling their dredge catch. Workers in the packing plant, cleaning and packing bananas for export. Bananas ar checked for quality, weighed, and boxed according to the preferences of each buyer. In this case, the bananas were being packed in Del Monte boxes and shipped mostly to the US. Most of the packing plant workers are women.
we're off to Jackson Hole, Wyoming on thursday for a wedding. So I'm happily packing today. Here are some clothes I'm bringing :)

Documentation of us slowly and laboriously packing of all our stuff in boxes (minus the gazillion bags of things that have gone to Goodwill or the trash), followed by the professional movers' much more efficient loading of our things out of the condo and into an LA-bound truck! It's now oh-so-empty in here...
It's late at night, and I am packing my bags for my trip to Atlanta tomorrow. And of course, I still have to upload these pictures to my Flickr account before I hop into bed...
I have the neatest collection of hand-painted "rock art" and I love all of it dearly. They are mostly "river rocks" with all sorts of beautiful hand-painted designs. Most of mine are "Lat's Originals" - - - and are called "rock cats". I have one that was done by another artist and also two beautiful butterflies, one a Pipevine Swallowtail and the other a Tiger Swallowtail. If you turn the butterflies over, there is a painting of each one's caterpillar on the back.
It's that time of year again. We're all packing up and heading home for another winter. Goodbye to Denali until next summer. (this isn't a species found here :)
We head out tomorrow for Albany for a couple nights, and then off to the Woodstock Fruit Festival for a week. I've got packing down to a science with my laundry basket system... but it's still a lot of work... can't wait to get on the road!

These packers worked incredibly fast. Wash the beans, put the beans in styrofoam boxes, cover with newspaper, add ice, tape down styrofoam lid. They were impressive to watch.
