Steveston is now a neighbourhood of Richmond. It was once the epicentre of the west coast fisheries, particularly salmon. It also served the surrounding farms. The canneries employed thousands on a seasonal basis, packing millions of cans of salmon each summer. Later, this cannery packed herring, mostly for the troops overseas in WWII. In the 60s and 70s, it served as a herring reduction plant. The Gulf of Georgia Cannery is a museum now, operated by the federal government as a National Historic Site.
I have the neatest collection of hand-painted "rock art" and I love all of it dearly. They are mostly "river rocks" with all sorts of beautiful hand-painted designs. Most of mine are "Lat's Originals" - - - and are called "rock cats". I have one that was done by another artist and also two beautiful butterflies, one a Pipevine Swallowtail and the other a Tiger Swallowtail. If you turn the butterflies over, there is a painting of each one's caterpillar on the back.
This camera is about the largest I have seen. After I took this shot, I was changing batteries in my camera when the owner arrived and began packing up for the day.

Packing up our camp in the morning at Mormon Key. It was a very moist night so we hung our sleeping bags out to dry before leaving.

Do scissors multiply when left unattended? If not, I can't imagine why I have 5 pairs! I know one pair of the orange ones used to be my sewing scissors before I bought my Ginghers, but I don't know where the other orange pair or the 3 blue pairs came from.
I'm packing and arranging things for moving back to the Twin Cities. I have a new place and although I can't technically live in it until February 1 (because of pending travel, that's no problem) I can move my crap in.
Packing the small stuff is the worst and half of what I need to do is go through things and toss, but now isn't the time any more. I'll have to do that as I unpack. Wow.
Watching episodes of Angel, season 5 is helping distract me from the normal degree of stress I would usually be experiencing. Thank God for nerdity!
The Jesse White Tumbling Team is composed of young kids from the housing projects in Chicago. The team was founded by Jesse White in 1959 as a juvenile delinquency prevention program. The members have to adhere to strict rules such as staying in school, maintaining a "C" average and staying away from gangs and drugs.
The team has performed in several national sporting events, various TV programs in the U.S. and Japan.
This summer we were honored to see their performance at the Kennedy Center Open House. They are wonderful to watch....so graceful....they seem to tumble and fly through the air like birds.

I used to have only one kimono for Yuiko, so I set about making her a wardrobe. Albeit, the kimonos all have incorrections from how kimonos are supposed to look like, but I still like them. Right now, she's packing for her voyage to America as a picture bride,
The Kimono she's wearing I really like, even though it's pretty plain. I imagine this is her everyday one, and she's been working hard to sew a wardrobe for her impending marriage.
Documentation of us slowly and laboriously packing of all our stuff in boxes (minus the gazillion bags of things that have gone to Goodwill or the trash), followed by the professional movers' much more efficient loading of our things out of the condo and into an LA-bound truck! It's now oh-so-empty in here...
