My history on this is subject to correction by our Brit friends. But this is the bloom from a Pigeon Pea I grew, the seeds being supplied by a friend from Puerto Rico. I understand that the Pigeon Pea is the same thing as the Carlin Pea of English fame, going back to Elizabeth I. They were grown in the gardens of English Monasteries Later, on this Sunday in Lent, they were fed by the Church to children as a special treat. I have heard that these are the peas referred to in "Pease porridge hot, Pease porridge cold, Pease porridge in the pot nine day old." In any event, happy Carlin Pea Sunday!

The Domos totally freaked out when Wage suggested they snack on fresh peas instead of candy and cookies.

A trip out to Messingham with the MPE-65 - not used this for a while, but quite pleased with the results today.
An unseasonably warm day yesterday brought light rain and dense fog. Today the temps are back where they belong. :)
On the auspicious occasion of St. Patrick's Day I wish all my friends World Peace
(and some green peas too of course :-) HMM

Rosary pea has been widely used in Florida as an ornamental plant. The native range of rosary pea is India and parts of Asia, where this plant is used for various purposes. The roots of this plant are used to induce abortion and relieve abdominal discomfort. The seeds of this plant are so uniform in size and weight that they are used as standards in weight measurement. The seeds can also be used to make jewelry. Interestingly, one of the most deadly plant toxins, abrin, is produced by rosary pea (Abrus precatorius). Studies have shown that as little as 0.00015% of toxin per body weight will cause fatality in humans (a single seed). Interestingly, birds appear to be unaffected by the deadly toxin as they have been shown to readily disperse rosary pea seed.
Rosary pea is a small, high climbing vine with alternately compound leaves, 2-5 inches long, with 5 to 15 pairs of oblong leaflets. A key characteristic in identifying rosary pea is the lack of a terminal leaflet on the compound leaves. The flowers are small, pale, and violet to pink, clustered in leaf axils. The fruit is characteristic of a legume. The pod is oblong, flat and truncate shaped, roughly 1½ - 2 inches long. This seedpod curls back when it opens, revealing the seeds. The seeds are small, brilliant red with a black spot. These characteristics give the plant another common name, crab’s eyes.

I planted one of my microgreen pea plants in the garden where it was soon overshadowed by weeds. Three pods survived. Not enough to cook, so I will plant them in the spring.
This may have been my favourite, but my husband and I both liked the single pod. His opinion is important to me.

Peacocks (and Peahens) roam the grounds of Staglands Wildlife Park, north-west of the outer Wellington suburb of Upper Hutt.
And whether the Boys are displaying their spectacular tail feathers, are just strutting around, or (as in this case) just taking some Time Out, they are beautiful birds!
Blue Peafowl (above) originated in India and Sri Lanka, but as "New Zealand Birds On Line" (www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/peafowl) have noted,
Pea Fowl are now held on many lifestyle properties throughout the country, and have even become feral in the upper North Island, especially around parts of Northland, Auckland, East Cape and mid-Hawkes Bay.
Pea Fowl are related to Pheasants - something that I wasn't aware of...!
My In-Laws had Pea Fowl on their farm, but the birds - though tolerated - were regarded as pests because they were noisy, and fowled paddocks with their waste, making the grass less than tasty for livestock!
Thanks for taking the time and trouble to leave a Comment Folks. It's always nice to hear from you, and your comments are always very much appreciated...!
Whether you eat your peas or not, this Pea Costume Girl minifigure is a great vegetable for your collection. I love the green lips this figure has on both of its facial expressions, along with a fun torso print with a bowl of salad on it (for whatever reason). Pea Costume Girl comes with an apple, though I’m not sure I understand why.
Feel Tips: This is one of the easier minifigures to feel for as the pea costume is quite large. Feel for for the rounded peas on the front of the costume piece as well as the point on top.
