Glasgow's Riverside Museum is the location of this preserved Leyland Titan PD2/24 open-top bus.
Entering service in February 1959 as Glasgow Corporation Transport, L108, it has bodywork built by the Corporations own workshops on Alexander frames and registered SGD 10, it now carries the FYS 8 plate which also originated in Glasgow.
Preserved Stevensons of Uttoxeter 11 KLB908 a 1949 Leyland PD2/3 with Leyland RT6 H30/26RD body at Beam Hill in Burton upon Trent on a special service for the 90th anniversary of the company on 11 September 2016.
Originally London Transport RTW178 until sale to Stevensons in 1965 who installed the rear door and modified the destination displays.
I think the PD2/40 version of the Titan must have been the most popular. Several survive in preservation and this smart example, new to Birkenhead, in 01/1958, is leading a line of preserved buses in it's home town on Shore Road, when operating a heritage service at The Wirral Bus & Tram Show, on 02/10/2022. Behind is another preserved Birkenhead Corporation Transport Massey bodied Leyland Titan. A PD2/37 model, it was new in 09/1967. Also in view is preserved Liverpool Corporation Transport 'Baby Grand' 245. This was operating a shortened journey from the Wirral Transport Museum, Taylor Street, the journey being curtailed about a hundred yards or so behind me. This was due to a track fault on the tight curve on the approach to Woodside Ferry Terminal. © Peter Steel 2022.
An interesting livery variant is shown by Learner Bus No.701, a Leyland PD2 contrasting with the standard service bus behind - at Gillingham Depot Yard on 11/10/68. Note, by the way the use of a white backed front numberplate - not to become standard until 1973.
This Leyland PD2/3 has been dumped in this truck rental yard at Simi Valley for several years.
The owner has had numerous offers to buy it but has so far declined, even though no work appears to have been done towards its restoration.

An old photograph of a Southdown Leyland Titan PD2/1 (reg JCD36 - fleet no 335) in Brighton showing service 113 'Downs Hotel - Bear Rd - Lewes Rd - St Peters Church - Brighton Pool Valley' destination blind.
The photo reverse is stamped as it having been taken by 'Surfleet Transport Photographs'.
It was new in Mar 1948 and seated H28/26R, unfortunately I cannot find any details about its later history.

The original photographer may have taken copies from their original negative and passed them out (sold them?) so there may be other copies out there of your (and my) 'original' transport photo, although occasionally there may be 'holiday snaps' type photos where there are not any other photos exactly the same in existence.

The Leyland PD2 has just dropped of it's schoolboy passenger in Barnack, Lincs during a Timeline Events photo shoot. Meanwhile someone has left an MGa on the pavement!

This first batch of 14 is from my 'Blurb' Yorks & N.East Buses book.
A one-off call-in at Sheffield on 24/4/69 gave me at least one exp-rad. example of the Sheffield fleet - Trainer D10 (Ex 540) a Leyland PD2/Leyland from 1947 was parked at the Bus Stn.
Lincoln Corporation. 89 (RFE416). Leyland Titan PD2/41 - Roe. {1961}. Also in shot is a Lincolnshire Road Car Co Bristol VRT. Lincoln, 25 August 1976.
GMT Leyland PD2 3524 UNB524 on hire to LUT
Bolton Great Moor Street ... slide undated but was taken during the huge vehicle MOT crisis which hit LUT and resulted in the hiring in of buses of all shapes, sizes and types. The now preserved 3524 is the second shot of a former Manchester Corporation PD2 working in Bolton, in this case a 543 to Farnworth Black Horse, not 43 King St as per probably the only available Destination, a short working of the number 8. Bringing up the rear is another LUT vehicle, a Northern Counties bodied Daimler Fleetline on the £1 note route, 542 to Walkden centre, which will follow 3524 and turn off at Gladstone Road just before Farnworth Park and a 7000 series Park Royal bodied Fleetline or Atlantean and possibly an Oldham exile Atlantean at the back. Boots the Chemist , The National Coal Board, The Typewriter shop, Army Recruitment Office, Princess Fashions, Home Improvements and Gregory and Porritts left, the Lido on Bradshawgate whilst Edwin P Lees, or EP Lees Electrical and Record shop, THAT shop!! and Skipton Building Society on the right, the entire row and corner now given way to the new Interchange. A deserted Great Moor Street and a Traction pole to boot......
Cleveland Transit Daimler Fleetline 457 (BXG757C) and on the far right 460 (EXG460D) plus Devon General ex Exeter Corporation Titan 281 (481EFJ) in Parton & Allen’s Carlton yard 40 years ago in April 1980. The Titan had come from W North’s dealers who passed on most of their scrappers to P&A at the time.
The Southwick terminus of route 49. This route was crew operated - but other Titans on other routes were OPO! Feb 1977.
A 1966 PD2 seen at Cronton in May 1980. I think by this time they may have only had two Titans left - and the other one (42) seemed to be a driver trainer.

New to Sheffield Joint Omnibus Committee ( B Fleet ) during July-1957 . Joining this fleet on the disbandment of the JOC 01st-January-1970.
On a damp day , YWB294 is loading for Wybourn on Route 56 , at Pond Street , Bus Station , Sheffield , South Yorkshire

New to Bournemouth Corporation Transport ( 236 ) during June-1950 . Just a few weeks older than me !
Unsure when this Bus moved a few miles down the road to this Operator .

Lincoln Corporation Roe bodied Leyland Titan PD2/41, RFE416, is seen here undergoing a brief test to ensure that the recently fitted replacement vacuum exhauster was working as it should. This meant starting the engine without the radiator fitted, perfectly safe as long as the engine is run for too long.
RFE416 was new to Lincoln Corporation in 1961 as fleet number 89. It was withdrawn in 1977, and sold straight into preservation to members of the Lincolnshire Vintage Vehicle Society. It remains in preservation, but has recently been off the road with brake problems, resulting in the exhauster being replaced.
Leyland PD2 with Weymann body in Baslow Nether End Derbyshire 29April 2021.
On the 29th April 1921 Derbyshire-based Hulleys of Baslow purchased their first bus. Regrettably 100-years later plans to celebrate the event formally have for the time being been dashed by COVID, although the company do intend to organise something in the future.
However, a very last minute decision resulted in their route 170/X70 (Bakewell & Chesterfield), be operated on 29th April 2021 in part by three of their ‘celebrities’, plus duplicates of two locally preserved buses, 225 being one of them.
Halifax PD2/37 with MCW body passing Britania house Bradford 1974 just after WYPTE takeover. Joint BD/HX mountainous route 576 to Halifax.. Not the lack of crest and 4 digit PTE number..
The joint Haifax/ Bradford through routes 76 (Via Queensbury formally Hebble 17) and 77 (via Shelf formally Hebble 7) were formed with the demise of Hebble in 1971.
Initially the route was worked as Hebble did i.e 7 Halifax - Shelf - Bradford then 17 Bradford -Queensbury - Halifax; Halifax -Queensbury - Brdford then back to Halifax via Shelf (7) total running time 1hr 30 (II used to do the round trip a lot - most enjoayable).
Later the PTE altered it so Bradford worked via Shelf and Halifax via Queenspury and this has continued to the present

New to Manchester Corporation ( 3681 ) during February-1963. Passing to this Company on its inception on 01st-November-1969 . This vehicle carries a Blue “Central Division” Logo .
3681NE stands in Piccadilly Gardens Bus Station , Central Manchester . Prior to working a duty on Route 44 to Ringway Airport .

In August 1982 this operator was using an OPO fitted ex-Brighton PD2 on a service between Christchurch and Verwood. This is Verwood.
These three Todmorden shots are for Neil H - taken on a visit to the area on 8/5/71.
Leyland PD2/12 No.355 from 1951 pulls away at the Bus Station. This bus did not have the livery band beading of the earlier model PD2's hence (I suppose) the different application of the cream relief.

In August 1982 this operator was using an OPO fitted ex-Brighton PD2 on a service between Christchurch and Verwood. This is Christchurch.
Parked (presumably on a dinner break) in Elmhurst Drive,Hornchurch on 5/3/68 is Upminster & District FJN204.
This is a 1952 Leyland PD2/12-Leyland ex Westcliff-on Sea and later Eastern National No.1136.

With the typical Widnes asymmetric front upstairs window style .
Hew to this Operator during December-1964 .

Another Todmorden PD2/1 from 1950, No.351 finishes off this trio. These three buses accounted for 10% of the very small fleet!
Line -up of Road Services buses at Ramsey depot on 1/7/71. The PD2/1-Leylands - 75, 87 & 71 (1949-50) are with No.19, a 1957 built Leyland Tiger Cub/Weymann and No.29 - a 1956 built Dennis Falcon/ Strachan ex Aldershot & District in '67.
