The squirrel that owns my back garden spends most of his autumn burying nuts in the lawn. I am sure he thinks he is storing up a cache of supplies to last him through the winter, but the number of tree seedlings that emerge in the following year is testimony to his forgetfulness.
Most of the emerging trees are children of our hazels but sometimes we get a walnut springing up in a flower pot - evidence of theft from the neighbours. Fortunately, we don’t have any oaks in the centre of the village else look what might happen!
The images in this set of playful creations for Sliders Sunday today are based on a picture of one of my favourite oaks on my local walks. This magnificent tree stands very photo-helpfully by the edge of a lane with no wires or telegraph posts in the way.
I’ve been too busy with other things recently to do much photography (or Flickr, alas). So this set has taken several weeks of playtime tinkering to produce.
Numbers I to V are created using Topaz Studio; VI is made just using layers and blend modes in Affinity Photo and then mangling it with the Liquify tools to give a windblown look; VII is a version created using Nik Color Efex.
I’ll post II to Sliders Sunday today. It’s created using the Remix filter and the stained glass window effect rather appeals to me, although it’s instantly recognisable as Topaz.
I like all of these for some reason or another though I am clearly biased. Which is your favourite I wonder…
The commentary is the same for each and I’ll post a link to the in-camera original in the first comment as usual.

Cattle Egrets characteristically follows moving cattle, native large mammals, birds, or tractors capturing food disturbed by their movement.
"..Cattle Egrets prefer animals that move forward at the most appropriate speed for their own Walking foraging. When following farm, mowing, or land moving equipment, it uses Leap Frog Feeding, in which birds land at the tractor, remain in place foraging, and then fly to the moving head of the flock again. It also uses this behavior without farm equipment, the flock serving as its own beater (Newton 1986)..."

This photo was taken in June, which coincides with the breeding season of the egrets in north India, which is why most of the birds are in breeding plumage.

Taken for Macro Monday's theme "Musical Instrument" This is the drum stick and drum that my daughter brought back from Jamaica. I never noticed the face in the stick until I did this macro shot. Can you see the face??? Thought it was just a tiny black speck on the stick! Have a HMM friends.

I've been saving this photo to share during the Christmas season. The dancing northern lights over the iconic mountain and waterfalls of Kirkjufellsfoss reminded me of mother nature's own holiday display!
In Iceland, the weather is about as unpredictable as any weather I’ve seen. I managed to get a few shots of the aurora display before the cloud cover swiftly moved in and obscured the northern lights.
This sheep owned Kinder Scout (a very high hill in the Peak District if you're not familiar)- just look how proud he was to have reached the top before us!....here he is trying to look all aloof and Kingly, but a few seconds after this, he was showing great interest in our picnic. I think he was after my Tunnocks Caramel Wafer (if you're not in the UK you might not know what these are- they are the food of Gods). He looks like a sheep of exceptional taste, doesn't he?

The service was running around 11 minutes late at this point having started late and staying for longer than intended in Ely Recp sidings due to a fault that was fixed. 26/02/2026.

Alexis: felt that weak grasp and slight pulse of a squeeze. It wasn't much, but it something and right now...she'd take whatever she could get from him. While none of it was her intentions, she'd found herself persuaded into that stupid theory that the grass was greener on the other side and damn if that wasn't a lesson hard learned, but nevertheless....learned, burned, and embedded into her brain. It was horrible to see someone that you cared about, loved with every beat of your heart, hurting. It was even worse when you were the reason for their pain. She never wanted to hurt him and sure that was something easier said now, than stopped before it even happened. But, as pathetic as a excuse, as it might have been...she was human. A guy, someone completely different than what anyone would have ever expected for her..caught her attention and held it briefly. But...as the saying goes... Treat her like a Queen, she'll treat you like her King...treat her like a game...She'll show you how it's played... Jack...Jack had always made her feel like a Queen. Sure they had their ups and downs..but she knew who spoke to her soul.. he wasn't a 'fun time'....he was a 'long time'. "I promise you..." she whispered, as he gave her head a little more of a notable squeeze. "I won't let you give up on us...I won't give up on you...I am where I belong...I know that now more than ever and I'm so sorry that it took this for me to reopen my eyes and realize what I've nearly lost for absolutely nothing..." She felt that way, lost. She had been completely lost, while in Cali. Lost touch of who she really was and what she actually deserved. But after a few childish mishaps and dealing with a narcissist who was sure he could find better. She woke up and realized her worth and that sure as hell wasn't it. "Jack...sometimes two people have to fall completely apart, before they can fall back together..." quietly she'd edge herself up near his lap and attempt to curl her arms around him in silence.
I've been dying my own hair for about 15 years. It's been about every color imaginable and I just love how a $7 box of dye can totally change your look. I know it's bad for my hair, but I just can't stop. :)
Yesterday I decided to give ombre a try and I think it turned out really good. For those who don't know, ombre is where your hair goes from dark to light . All I did was mix up some lightener and combed it through the bottom half of my hair.
I especially like it because with this look you don't have to worry about roots. So, maybe I can give my hair the rest of the summer off. :)
Symphony of the Seas is an Oasis-class cruise ship owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. She was built in 2018 in the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, the fourth in Royal Caribbean's Oasis class of cruise ships. At 228,081 GT, she is the largest cruise ship in the world by gross tonnage, surpassing her sister ship Harmony of the Seas, also owned by Royal Caribbean International.
Symphony of the Seas measures 361.011 meters (1,184 ft 5.0 in) in length and has a gross tonnage of 228,081 across 18 decks. She is able to accommodate 5,518 passengers at double occupancy up to a maximum capacity of 6,680 passengers, as well as a 2,200-person crew. There are 16 decks for guest use, 22 restaurants, 4 pools, and 2,759 cabins.
Symphony of the Seas is about 30 meters (98 feet) longer than the largest military ships ever built, the U.S. Nimitz-class aircraft carriers.
Facilities include a children's water park, a full-size basketball court, an ice-skating rink, a zip line that is 10 decks high, a 1400-seat theater, an outdoor aquatic theater with Olympic-height platforms, and two 43-foot (13 m) rock-climbing walls. There is also a park containing over 20,000 tropical plants.
Symphony of the Seas is powered onboard by six marine-diesel sets each composed of three 16-cylinder Wärtsilä 16V46D common rail engines and three 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 12V46D engines.
The energy-efficient design of Symphony of the Seas enables it to accomplish shipboard power generation with 85 MW versus the 100 MW normally found on Oasis-class ships. One of the key design features is the use of only LED or fluorescent lights in order to avoid the heat generation from incandescent bulbs, thereby reducing the load on air conditioning systems.
Additional energy efficiency is accomplished by using a 2 MW steam turbine to recover waste heat from the engines and converting it into energy to power a portion of the onboard hotel load.
For propulsion, Symphony of the Seas uses three 20,000 kilowatt azipod main engines, which are electric thrusters. These engines are mounted under the stern of the ship and they each drive 20 foot wide rotatable propellers. In addition to the three main engines, there are four bow thrusters used for docking, each with 5,500 kilowatts of power or 7,380 horsepower.
Among the Oasis-class ships, Symphony of the Seas uses 25% less fuel due to the implementation of a new system that releases tiny air bubbles under the hull to enable the vessel to glide more smoothly through the water. The air layer also reduces excitation from the propellers, which cuts noise and vibration levels in the aft part of the ship.

The boat's owner was just out of shot, as he was preparing to transfer the boat back on its trailer. Another perfect Winter day in Brisbane. Looks like the pelicans and seagulls were enjoying it too.
