(From my own archived photos, 2022)

The Martina watchtower is located east of the downtown of Ayllón (Segovia, Spain), on a hill that dominates for several kilometres around.

This tower is the only remains left of the medieval wall of this city, which has a pentagonal plan and is of the "albarrana tower" type, which is a type of tower that protruded outwards from the wall, connected to it by a bridge with one or more arches.

Later, a bell gable was added, like those found in some churches and hermitages, and two bells.

Ayllón was probably founded by Celtiberians.

It was destroyed by the Romans under the command of Marco Fulvio Nobilior in 190 BC.

It is very close to Tiermes.

There is a Visigothic necropolis in the Estebanvela area.

Repopulated during the Arab occupation in the 10th century, it was first named Aellon in 1076. (Source: Wikipedia).

(Fuente: Wikipedia).

My happiness always involves Ruffy. And nothing is better than that. Well… maybe Ruffy x 6 is better. ;-) Create your own happiness and Happy Smile on Saturday! Hope this makes you smile. :-)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been working on this pic for about a week and before it gets overdone, I'd better post it. You wouldn't believe how different it looks each day!!
If you don't recognize her, that's my Ruffy. I created this for the Smile on Saturday group, selfie with half a face theme. I know it's not Saturday.. Maybe you'll smile before Saturday. ;-)
I'm still trying to get Ruffy's blood sugar #'s under control. Today I'm testing her blood every 2 hours, doing her 2nd blood glucose curve. Have been giving her insulin shots 2x daily, but for the 1st time, today her sugar # was low! It's usually really high! So no insulin today. Scary stuff!! Have to keep calling the vet & they tell me what to do. OK.. back to create your own happiness...
After World War II, and following considerable controversy, the City of Philadelphia agreed that it would transfer custody of the bell and Independence Hall, while retaining ownership, to the federal government. The city would also transfer various colonial-era buildings it owned. Congress agreed to the transfer in 1948, and three years later Independence National Historical Park was founded, incorporating those properties and administered by the National Park Service (NPS or Park Service).[69] The Park Service would be responsible for maintaining and displaying the bell.[70] The NPS would also administer the three blocks just north of Independence Hall that had been condemned by the state, razed, and developed into a park, Independence Mall.
Have you ever imagined your own secret garden? A place to escape; to breathe deeply and feel the sun on your face. Darling Harbour’s Chinese Garden of Friendship is that place.
Much more than just a city garden, the walled Chinese Garden respectfully recreates the philosophy and harmony of a traditional Chinese garden with waterfalls, lakes, exotic plants, pavilions and hidden pathways. With koi carp swimming in the lakes, willows weeping in the breeze and a Teahouse serving Chinese tea and dim sum, be careful when you discover Darling Harbour’s secret garden—you may never want to leave.
....this was a very hard shot, but finally it came out the way I imagined it! ;)
I want to build my own kingdom and be free from all the nonsense out there,
it will be a place where no one can disturb it and also just me and myself in it!
Enjoying the Weather POO cat sitting on the deck rail observing his surroundings, he loves outdoors and spends as much time there as he can. It makes him happy, he patrols the grounds of about 4 houses and the woods next to me, he does what he wants and my nearby neighbors treat him like there own, a spoiled rotten wannabe Ferrel cat!
Finally got my own Logo Hat and Hoody. Never too old to wear them. Being in my young 70's of age they are the new teenage years. national geographic Your Shot wouldn't post their Iconic log hat to my UK address so I made up my own Logo and here it is BjT (my initials) My Shot. Well if I couldn't have Your Shot I was going to have My Shot on my hat and hoody! oh and it was embroidered too by a UK company. Awesome gear!
Explore # 115, 01 September 2011
Well, that's me finished editing this amazing session I had in these woods. Cannot wait to go back again especially in Autumn when the colours will be pretty spectacular!
What appears to be mist is in fact low cloud, as these woods are quite high up on a hill (my lungs can attest to that lol).
Beech trees do amaze me in how they grow so very differently to each other. Some areas I go to they are all tall and straight, other places they are all squat and gnarly. I guess they are like us and all individuals in their own ways.
I hope you enjoy this series I will be posting in the next week or so, let me know when you get bored of them lol.
Partial view of the cloister of the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña, Huesca, Aragon, Spain.
ORIGINS: The Royal Monastery of San Juan de la Peña located in Botaya, southwest of Jaca, Huesca, Aragon (Spain), was the most important monastery in Aragon in the High Middle Ages.
A good number of kings of Aragon were buried in its Royal Pantheon.
It is part of the Aragonese Way of St. James.
Its location is extremely unique.
Legend has it that a young nobleman named Voto (in some versions, Oto), was hunting in these parts when he saw a deer.
The hunter ran after the prey, but it fled and when he reached Mount Pano, he fell off the cliff.
Miraculously, his horse landed safely.
Safe and sound at the bottom of the ravine, he saw a small cave in which he discovered a hermitage dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and, inside, he found the corpse of a hermit named Juan de Atarés.
Impressed by the discovery, he went to Zaragoza, sold all his possessions with his brother Felix, retired to the cave and began a hermit life.
THE HOLY GRAIL: According to the Spanish legend about the Holy Grail, it remained in the monastery, after passing through various locations such as the cave of Yebra de Basa, the monastery of San Pedro de Siresa, the church of San Adrián de Sásabe, San Pedro del Real Sitio de Bailo, the Cathedral of Jaca, from 1071 to 1399.
The need to attract pilgrims to Santiago who passed by the nearby road from Jaca to the monastery advised that the relic be located there.
In 1399, King Martin I took the sacred vessel to the Aljafería palace in Zaragoza, where it remained for more than twenty years, after a brief stay in Barcelona, accompanying the king and later transferred to the Cathedral of Valencia.
The first place in Spain where it was celebrated with the Roman Christian rite was in the Kingdom of Aragon in this monastery of San Juan de la Peña, on March 22, 1071, during the stay of the Holy Grail in the monastery and then it was made official in the rest of the kingdom, replacing the Mozarabic Christian rite. UN MONASTERIO BAJO UNA PEÑA, 2019
(De mi propio Archivo Digital de Imágenes, año 2019)
Vista parcial del claustro del Monasterio de San Juan de la Peña, Huesca, Aragón, Spain.
ORÍGENES: El Real Monasterio de San Juan de la Peña situado en Botaya, al suroeste de Jaca, Huesca, Aragón (España), fue el monasterio más importante de Aragón en la Alta Edad Media.
En su Panteón Real fueron enterrados un buen número de reyes de Aragón.
Forma parte del Camino de Santiago aragonés.
Su emplazamiento es sumamente singular.
Cuenta la leyenda que un joven noble llamado Voto (en algunas versiones, Oto), venía de caza por estos parajes cuando avistó un ciervo.
El cazador corrió tras la presa, pero esta huía y al llegar al monte Pano, se cayó por el precipicio.
Milagrosamente, su caballo aterrizó sin problemas.
Sano y salvo en el fondo del barranco, vio una pequeña cueva en la que descubrió una ermita dedicada a San Juan Bautista y, en su interior, encontró el cadáver de un eremita llamado Juan de Atarés.
Impresionado por el descubrimiento, se dirigió a Zaragoza, vendió todos sus bienes con su hermano Félix, se retiró a la cueva y comenzó una vida eremítica.
EL SANTO GRIAL: Según la leyenda española sobre el Santo Grial, éste permaneció en el monasterio, tras pasar por diversas localizaciones como la cueva de Yebra de Basa, el monasterio de San Pedro de Siresa, la iglesia de San Adrián de Sásabe, San Pedro del Real Sitio de Bailo, la Catedral de Jaca, desde 1071 hasta 1399.
La necesidad de atraer a los peregrinos a Santiago que pasaban por el cercano camino de Jaca al monasterio aconsejó que la reliquia se ubicara allí.
En 1399 el rey Martín I llevó el vaso sagrado al palacio de la Aljafería de Zaragoza, donde permaneció más de veinte años, tras una breve estancia en Barcelona, acompañando al rey y posteriormente trasladado a la Catedral de Valencia.
El primer lugar de España donde se celebra con rito cristiano romano es en el Reino de Aragón en este monasterio de San Juan de la Peña, el 22 de marzo de 1071, durante la estancia del Santo Grial en el monasterio y después se oficializa en el resto del reino, sustituyendo al rito cristiano mozárabe. When the mind is kept away from its preoccupations, it becomes quiet. If you do not disturb this quiet, and stay in it, you find that it is permeated with a light and love you have never known. And yet, you recognize it at once as your own nature.
Now that I'm all on my own
I saw you just the other day
My, how you have grown
Cast my memory back there, Lord
Sometimes I'm overcome thinking 'bout it
Making love in the green grass
Behind the stadium with you
My brown-eyed girl
You, my brown-eyed girl
A short while ago, I had the great pleasure of meeting with Pei for some photos, coffee and lunch. Going in, I was greatly looking forward to the shoot and coming out, I know I was right to be. She's a great person, not just a great model.
Echo did the makeup, which is always a good thing.
